  1. Just as an FYI that is covered on the main site as well. You are not required to purchase GameEx for it to work. With the unregistered version, you get about 99% of the features as the registered version. The main difference you will notice is the nag screen. If you can live with it being displayed for ~10 seconds, you don't have to. Most of us do register because we believe in the project and want to pay for a couple beers for Tom (the author). He does enough that he deserves one every now and again!
  2. Don't we have a C64 database already? Maybe it's one of the older DB's. Basically it would be the same procedure as with the PC games as Flash described. Take a complete DB, delete the data, add your own. If there is a completed database, then you can either use that one or copy the data to the new format (I would just use the old one). I think what we had was pretty complete, so that should be all you need.
  3. Welcome to the forums. Your questions are pretty basic and sound like you found the forum before you found the main web page. http://www.gameex.net/ There's a bunch of info there that would be a good primer for using GameEx. Once you've checked it out, come back and ask any questions you still have! Also, there is a FAQ sticky at the top of the forum that contains tons of info about basic problems and solutions once you do get going. Have fun!

    DirectX 9.0c

Damn, I forgot about the DOS version
  6. Cool! I didn't get a chance to look at this last night since I was dealing with other issues. I was lucky enough to contract the Antivirus XP 2008 piece of crap. Took me a couple days to get it removed. By the way, if anyone else gets this little gem, use Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to remove it. I had Avast! running but it didn't stop it. I installed Spy-bot, but it couldn't help either. The above program was able to remove it completely. Back on topic...I'm hoping to get a chance to look at this tonight. I downloaded it yesterday, but didn't really know where to put it. This isn't a complete theme, so do I just drop it in a complete V4 theme and go to NES (setting my NES emu to that background of course)? That seems wrong. Admittedly, I didn't have time to open the archive and 7zip doesn't open on my work machine.
  7. Nope, I was trying to keep from scaring people by saying the "D" word. There are a lot of people who think it's magic. The databases that banks use are pretty damn complicated and might take some time to figure out, but the databases used here are single table each. There's nothing but text in them anyway, so no need to worry. On the other hand, it could have been taken like I was calling him out for being lazy... Not my intent, but I see how it could be interpreted that way. I personally think Tempest is just trying to rile people up!

    DirectX 1.0a maybe

FYI, I'm not being lazy by not requesting it. I figured the person/people who came up with the idea should receive credit by adding it to the features request thread themselves. You guys came up with the idea so I shouldn't take the credit!

Feature request it! I think it's a cool idea.
  11. Not yet. I'm still at work, but I'll grab it when I get home. BTW, have you checked how vertical MAME videos fit in the AVI snap window? I've noticed that sometimes in my current theme they tend to run over the edge a bit.
  12. The only thing I can suggest is using MAME_Loader or MultiMAME. MultiMAME would be better, but it takes a bit more effort to get it set up. MAME_Loader is a script I wrote that is set up under AdvanceMAME. The only real disadvantage of it is that you lose the info at the bottom of the attract mode for MAME. Since it's one game, it's really a toss up whether you do one or the other. Of course I'm biased, but I would use the MAME_Loader script

No way to sort the favorites list AFAIK.

Right. Just make sure you have the game info screen turned on. Also, turn on the favorites menu or else you won't be able to see the results.
  15. The database work isn't hard, it just requires text entry. Basically the framework is there and all that's required is selecting all the data and hitting delete. Then, you simply type in what you want. There's no fancy or complicated interface to do this and really it just looks like working in Excel (just a bunch of cells). Build your own or not, either way. I'm just saying that there's no need to be afraid of taking a look because it's a database. EDIT: I should clarify slightly. The work Flash is doing is using a program HK put together. What you would be doing if you created a custom database would be in Access (or free clone) and would look similar to Excel. If you are just editing content that's already in a database, that's even easier. You just select the field (or cell if you will) and edit the text. SIMPLE!!!
  16. Would have been nice to see the photos, but photobucket crapped out on bandwidth already.
  17. Sorry to resurrect such an old thread, but I was just trying to access this database and I can't seem to locate it. I searched for all mdb files in the GameEx directory, but came up with nothing. Perhaps there's a setting I missed somewhere that will tell GameEx to save this file? Thanks
  18. Well, there is a special program that people (primarily Flash at this point) are using to build a set of databases for GameEx. That's not necessary for what you need though. If you want to try your hand at building a database for this, you must first have MS Access or a program that can create/edit an Access database. Next, I would suggest taking a database that has been built (preferably one of the new ones that have just been released) and using it as a template. Delete all the data and put in your own info for each game. When you have all the data in, create a .lnk file for each game's exe and put it in a directory. Point a custom emulator to that directory and set the filter to "*.lnk". Put your new custom PC database in the database directory for GameEx and point that custom emulator to it. If all goes well, you *should* see all the data you entered. Now mind you, I have not tried this, but I think it should work. This is probably more work than you are willing to put in, but it might pay off.
  19. Is this through GameEx or in Windows? If you aren't able to view the videos in Windows, you won't be able to play them in GameEx (first basic rule of GameEx ). If the problem is in GameEx, can you upload your log.txt file. It may contain an error or something for us to diagnose the problem better.
  20. I've never used the newer themes. I'm currently using one of the RedEx themes (Default - RedEx - Arcade800x600). I can't remember off the top of my head, but as I recall, Windows doesn't really like 640x480 now that I think about it. I think I've been using 800x600 or 1024x768 which the video card then scales down to tv resolution (~640x480). I guess that means that 1024x768 should work fine, but I know 800x600 will work. If I get a chance this evening, I'll fire up the cab and try the newer themes to see what's up. I'm sure Tom got it right or else someone would have spoken up by now. EDIT: I had another look at my backed up GameEx.ini and it looks like GameEx is actually scaling to 640x480. So, as long as the new themes work like the old ones, everything *should* work if you just made 1024x768. Btw, you said something about making a template available, but I searched the thread and didn't see anything. If you upped a raw theme with just the MAME background or something, that would probably give me enough to make sure it works correctly at 1024.
  21. I think those look really good! Impressive work

    EXITING GAMEEX

If you have a gamepad, then you should use the advanced emulator config to do this.
  23. No, I agree with you that it's not a realistic database to make due to maintenance if nothing else. I was mainly trying to say that it is technically feasible. I think it would be much easier to make a custom DB for the games you have or, as you said, make a custom background for individual games.
  24. If the game had a consistent link name, it would be possible to have a directory of links to PC games that drew info from a database though, right?
  25. Just curious about other resolutions. This one is obviously wide screen which looks great! I would say most people are running 4:3 at 640x480 (TV and low or medium resolution arcade monitor) or 800x600 (high resolution arcade monitor). When this scales, how does it do that so that it doesn't break things badly? Or, if you have to do it prior to release and assuming you will be releasing a non-wide screen version, will you make sure things aren't screwy? If not, will you release the psd files so that they can be edited correctly? No pressure, I'm just curious since this is looking so good I'll be jealous if I can't use it.
