This is a shot in the dark, but if Tom has any kind of validation check on the icons, it's possible that you have a corrupt one that is stopping it from proceeding. Perhaps you could try moving the icons that aren't in the list out of the folder and just adding the last couple back in. If they show up when you refresh, then this is possible. If they don't, then I would agree that it's a list length limitation of some kind.

I don't think it should affect this, but check your command line you are using to call MAME. Perhaps something got changed that is interfering with the hiscore patch.

I keep getting side-tracked when I go to try it out, but when you configure the 270° games to use the 360° wheel, I assume you need to map the 360° wheel +/- axis to the "paddle analog inc" and "paddle analog dec" respectively? I tried to get these set up, but couldn't figure it out a while back. As I recall, I tried to map the 360° wheel's axis to the "paddle analog" control which didn't work properly.

Upside down video is a codec setting. You need to go into the setup software for the codec and fix it. I wouldn't worry about it though, as you are going to want to use a different codec to fix the minimizing problem. Tom (the author) recommends the FDDSHOW codec available on the main GameEx download page.
-
The minimizing is probably due to your codec. You are probably using the official divx codec which has a system tray icon that pops up on first use. When GameEx launches a video, the codec starts and it steals focus from GameEx which causes it to minimize. The preview videos are probably wrong due to file naming. GameEx tries to match videos to roms the best it can, but if the two don't match EXACTLY, then sometimes it will get it wrong. The best thing you can do is rename your videos to the same as your roms. There are tools that can be used to automate this, but it may require a dat file.

Some games had multiple pedals. I can't speak universally, but I would guess that one is gas and the other brake.

Those kinda work, but they aren't going to give the feel of the original. On the other hand, if it's fun...WHO CARES!!! Btw, do those fit over the spinner or do they have to be installed all the time? Just curious. I used a Championship Sprint cabinet for my racing cab. A buddy of mine picked up a working one and gave me the non-working one as thanks for use of my truck. I stripped the Paper Boy boardset and the monitor out and replaced it with an Athlon XP and 20" Trinitron tube. Total cost...don't remember and probably don't want to know

This is only focussed on the catver.ini file which is unique for MAME. The databases for SNES, Genesis, and all the rest are in the process of being rebuilt. They will be EXTREMELY accurate and contain all kinds of new data. There is a thread in the stickies concerning these databases. I don't know if they are looking for more help or not, but you could take a look there and see what's going on. Link

Hmmm, that's disappointing. I was planning on taking a look at it this afternoon. Well, I could always just script something in AHK. Perhaps I could use HK's volume program with an AHK script that watches for the active app. That way, if it sees zinc or Daphne, it will adjust the volume since GameEx can't do it right now (without a loader anyway). On the other hand, maybe a loader is easier... I really just wanted to have something that would automatically up/down the system volume based on the audio being output. That way quiet MAME games would be equalized with loud ones and everything else. Awe shucks, back to the drawing board.

A.B. Cop uses a paddle (270° steering wheel). If you are using a 270 wheel, you just need to map the "paddle analog" control to the wheel's axis. If you are using some other controls, you would probably need to set "paddle analog inc" and "paddle analog dec" to your controls. If you have a 360° wheel, I think you should be able to set "paddle analog dec" to "mouse X-" and "paddle analog inc" to "mouse X+" (depending on how you have your controls hooked up). If you aren't using a steering wheel, you can just use the keyboard right and left arrows for inc and dec.
-
Neither... APB used a 360° steering wheel to control the game. Neither of the wheels you listed are 360° (actually, noone makes them), so you will be just as well off playing with the keyboard. Ok, so that's a little harsh. The point I'm trying to make is that you aren't going to get the controls to work right and will likely be disappointed. If I were you, I would see if there's either a hacked version available that uses 270° steering wheels or a PC/console version that you could run. If so, then either of the wheels you listed will work fine.

BAHHH! It can't be as good as Fire Truck. Now that's a game. You and a buddy drive a fire truck to a fire that never materializes. Somehow you are directed to go in circles rather than just going straight there, but it's ok, cause there's no fire...apparently... Either way, you run out of fuel, so no worries. Oh, and it's BLACK & WHITE!!!

I don't know if that's something that can be distributed here. The MAMEdevs made it pretty clear that passing along patches was a no-no, so I don't think they would like us to pass the patched exe either. Compiling is REALLY easy thanks to the tool that HK put together. If you give it a try, I can pretty much guarantee success! If you do run into a problem, just post in that thread and someone will help get you up an running in no time.

I think the combo exit plugin can do that.

I noticed that there is no launch before/after for Zinc, Model2, or Daphne. How do you work around that? Also, I found another program that says it can do everything automatically (haven't tried it yet though as I'm at work). AutoMixer

Audio is a bit of a balancing act. There are so many applications that we want to run at the same volume level. It seems like there should be a way to run an application that automatically levels the sound. Unfortunately, I know of no program to do it. The only 2 things I can suggest are playing with things until you get them close enough or installing a volume control somewhere accessible. I err on the side of quiet, but it does get annoying when you can't hear anything in some games. I did a quick google search for "automatic volume leveling" and found a few interesting products. In one of my cabinets, I use the TV's speakers for audio and connect the PC's audio out to the TV via RCA lines. There is at least one product that I saw that could automatically level out high and low volumes that was basically a box you plug in between. I don't like that idea particularly since the box doesn't know what should be heard. Another option is software on the PC that automatically adjusts the volume. I like that idea, but it does take system resources. One that I saw was called "NoiseNakPlus" and could do both date/time and per-application based leveling. This is great and all, but I bet a FREE script could be put together to do it pretty easily. That's just a cursory investigation and needs more effort really.

It's possible. The best way is to use the genre list in the first place then. You end up with ~10-15 categories. The genre.ini file is available at the site listed above. Alternately, you can modify the "Catver_conversion.txt" file to use less categories on the right side. I reduced the category count to ~40 since I was looking to keep a single screen or so of categories and no more than ~100-200 games in each one. If you want to change categories, just decide what you want to group together. Then, using any text editor, use the replace text option to find any instance of the category on the right that you want to change and replace it with your new one. For example: Driving = Racing Driving / 1st Person = Racing Driving / Boat = Racing Driving / Plane = Shooter / Flying Other Driving / Race = Racing Driving / Race (chase view) = Racing Driving / Race (chase view) Bike = Racing Driving / Race 1st P Bike = Racing Driving / Race 1st Person = Racing Driving / Race Bike = Racing Driving / Race Track = Racing This could all be considered "driving", so you could do a find replace on the stuff on the right side (or just change it manually) so that you end up with: Driving = Driving Driving / 1st Person = Driving Driving / Boat = Driving Driving / Plane = Driving Driving / Race = Driving Driving / Race (chase view) = Driving Driving / Race (chase view) Bike = Driving Driving / Race 1st P Bike = Driving Driving / Race 1st Person = Driving Driving / Race Bike = Driving Driving / Race Track = Driving

True, you could do it with print screen too. Remember though, if you do that, you have to have a keyboard installed to do the alt-tab and file name. It seems like more work than needed. I thought screen shots were setup by default though. So, if not, then it might be a bit of work there anyway.
-
If there's a snap you don't like for whatever reason, you can either find a different set (I think there are at least 3 main ones in common distro), or you can use the F12 button to perform a screen capture.

Awesome! I was going to grab it and take a look, but the link didn't let me download. Said something about being a bad xml format. Anyway, if you have a hint on the d/l or can repost a zipped version, I'll have a looksy!

First off, AFAIK the MAME32 team (or MAMEUI team I guess) has moved over from the MAME32.ini file to using the same file that the MAMEdevs use (mame.ini). This means that your settings may not move over automatically. Don't take my word on it as I haven't tried and my input is hearsay. Anyway, if I were you, I would copy the mame32.ini file to a backup location and install MAME32. Then, run MAMEUI once to make sure you get the ini file and quit MAMEUI. Use some kind of a diff program (Beyond Compare is a good one, but there are many available) to figure out what the differences in your setup are. Change as necessary either in the ini file directly or in the MAMEUI interface. There may be another way, but that's my best bet other than starting from scratch on it. Oh, all other files should be fine (controller settings, etc), so you shouldn't need to worry about it. This will likely only affect video settings and enabling/disabling features.

Your images must match the rom name to be 100%. For example, Dragons Lair has several versions that you can choose from. The default is dlair but the most commonly used is dlair20. Whatever version you pick, you need to have the media match exactly for a guaranteed match. So, your artwork should be dlair20.png, the avi should be dlair20.avi, etc.

YES!!! If you create a MAME32 formatted list of games and put it in your custom folders path (and update your list), you will end up with a new listing of games like you are asking for. The attached list shows the format, but it includes 360 and spinner games I have on my racing cabinet. RacerX_Games.ini.txt
-
I know of two ways to add games to your favorites list. 1) Enable the game info screen and select add to favorites. 2) Create a MAME32 formated folders file and point to it with in GameEx. Next time you start up, it should add it to the list for you.

Yup, it has to do with what you want the batch file to do. The way you originally called it, you are saying run test2.bat and wait till it finishes before continuing. With HK's version using "start test2.bat", you are telling the batch file to run test2.bat and continue on without waiting. I suspect that's what you really want, so that should fix it!
