Welcome to our GameEx Hi-Score Competition !! Because we want everybody to participate in a fair Hi-Score competition there are some basic rules we would like you to follow when submitting your Hi-Score. Don't worry, it's pretty straightforward To make it even more easy we've also created a few guides: # Guide > Making sure Mame is using the correct settings # Guide > Take a snapshot of your Mame Hi-Score Screen or use Adultery's Hi-Score Snapper tool (recommended) # Extra Guide > Use a Customized Hi-Score MAP File; this MAP file is for use with GameEx which allows you to have a customized version of the ROM list displaying ONLY those games included in our competition Rules for submitting your hi-score 1) Use the correct (dip-switch) settings when playing your Mame-game Look for the Hi-Score Competition-thread of the game you want to play and read post #1 for the settings you have to use when you want to submit your hi-score. 2) Only use 1 credit per game || Continues are NOT allowed * 3) Submit a screenshot of your hi-score screen 4) Be honorable and play with no cheats or hacks 5) You're allowed to submit as many hi-scores as you like ** * When continues are not available (e.g. Donkey Kong) the use of more credits are allowed but we still prefer the use of 1 credit . This prevents us having to check each game for the availability of continues. ** In post #1 of each Hi-Score Competition thread a Hi-Score Table is shown with the top hi-score of each player. You're allowed to submit as many hi-scores as you want. Your personal best score will be shown in the Hi-Score Table. This will prevent having a 'top player' populate the entire hi-score table. In other words: you can beat your score and we will update the table showing your personal best score. # Please read this short walkthrough before submitting your hi-score: 1) Use the correct settings and play your game a. Look for the Hi-Score Competition-thread of the game you want to play b. Read post #1 for the (dip-switch) settings you have to use when you want to sumbit your hi-score c. Start the Mame-game of your choice and follow this guide (> link) to make sure Mame uses the correct dip-switch settings d. Play your game and make a screenshot of your hi-score screen * * We have also made a short guide (> link) on how to make a printscreen of your hi-score screen (thank you Hansolo !). This method prevents having a black image after pasting your printscreen. It uses Mame to capture the screenshot while it's playing a game without needing to use any extra software (e.g. Fraps) or special mobile devices. 2) Submit your hi-score Reply to the Hi-Score competition-topic of your game and add the following info: > Your score > Settings used of post #1 (please add this comment as a confirmation you have used the correct settings) > Version of Mame used (Example: Mame 147 compiled) > Screenshot of your hi-score The settings being used for each game are the default settings Twin Galaxies uses. Twin galaxies is an organization that tracks video game world records since 1981. A fair competition is created as everybody uses the same settings. If you have any questions please feel free to ask and send me a PM Have fun playing Mame and setting hi-scores ! Thank you, ~ Hi-Score Team tgts.pdf

I'm getting the hang of it Here's my new Galaga hi-score submisson: > Hi-score: 71,200 points > Settings used of post #1 > Mame 0.147 compiled used > Screenshot of my hi-score: Happy Hi-scoring ! GC

I've just started using your method for making a snapshot of my hi-score screen. It works very well! By default Mame saves a rather small sized snapshot. If you want it to be bigger (which I like) here is what you should do: 1) Go to Options > Default Game Options 2) Select the Miscellaneous Tab 3) Deselect "Autoselect snapshot size" and change the snapshot's size I changed it to 1280 x 1024. This can be changed to any size Just a little contribution Happy Hi-Scoring ! GC EDIT: please hit "Apply" after you have unchecked "Autoselect Snapshot Size". You should then be able to change the resolution of your snaps

You really have to push your skills to the limit Just keep practicing and you will get better and better ! It worked for me I noticed you haven't submitted your new hi-score of 14,300 ? Please add a screenshot and I'll update the OP and the links GC

We'll come back to you as soon as possible. Happy hi-scoring GC

Hi-Score Competition - A question for Draco1962
GimmeClassics replied to GimmeClassics's topic in GameEx Hi-Score Competition
Having only 4 hi-score game threads being active is mainly because we were told not to swamp the Social Club with hi-score threads. I understand this and therefore have not created new hi-score game threads since. 1) When you want to keep the hi-score competition interesting you should be able to submit hi-scores for multiple games and not just one per month. To keep the competition even more interesting we would like to create a hi-score leaderboard and a leaderboard based upon only one game per month isn't interesting. 2) The Hi-score competition thread of May will be changed back to Hi-Score Competition - Galaga on June 1st so everybody can still submit their hi-scores for Galaga. This alone will create 12 game-threads a year apart from the leaderboard-thread. So again, to prevent swamping the Social Club a hi-score subforum would be necessary I think. @Draco > I'd like to hear what you think of the above and what you and the other admins have decided after reviewing my arguments on creating a hi-score subforum. I hope I can convice the majority of the admins GC -
Hi-Score Competition - A question for Draco1962
GimmeClassics replied to GimmeClassics's topic in GameEx Hi-Score Competition
Thank you both for your reaction. I didn't know exactly who all the admins en mods are, so I therefore asked my question at Draco. I'm not holding anyone responsible if my request is not being honored. I appreciate it you are taking my and Han's request seriously I hope I can convince most of you and we can really get our hi-score competition going with the possibilty of submitting hi-scores for multiple games and creating a leaderboard. A hi-score subforum would be ideal for this and would prevent having the Social Club swamped with hi-score threads. Thanks again for taking our request seriously! GimmeClassics -
Hello Draco, Maybe you - as administrator - could help me out. It may be a bald request but it would mean the world to me and I think everybody who loves to play in our GameEx Hi-Score competition. As you already know I have - together with Hansolo - setup a Hi-Score Competition in the Social Club forum (a thank you also goes out to MNMax21 for getting us enthusiastic with his Mario Bros. thread ). With input of Hansolo I came up with "hi-score submitting rules" and both me and Han are and will be creating the hi-score game threads and keeping the Hi-Score Table of each game up to date. We and others are really excited about this competition and would like to take it one step further. Please let me explain... Right now Galaga is the Hi-Score game of May 2013. On June 1st the thread "Hi-Score Competition - May 2013" will be changed back to Hi-Score Competition - Galaga so everyone can still submit their score for Galaga. We're planning to create a leaderboard(thread) - great idea by Rtkiii - where points can be earned per game. Having a 1st position on Galaga will for example represent 100 points. Per player points will be accumulated for each game and thus a leaderboard will be created. Having a leaderboard is only fun when there are more games to choose from and not just one game per month. I know you've said you don't like the Social Club to be swamped with Hi-Score threads. And I do understand this. But I kindly ask you to again consider a great alternative: creating a hi-score subforum. Our love for playing Mame/Arcade-games was and is for a lot of us an important reason why we use such a great frontend as GameEx. So having our own friendly Mame hi-score competition subforum is rewarding those enthusiastic members and will possibly attract potential new members of GameEx. DazzleHP and Hansolo and me have therefore talked about the possibility of creating a hi-score subforum and possibly having me and Hansolo as dedicated mods for that forum so we can edit each other's threads and keeping the hi-score tables of each game up to date. Having all the hi-score threads in one place will also prevent swamping the Social Club. Because we want to create a hi-score leaderboard(thread) there should be a possibiliy to compete for hi-scores at multiple games and a hi-score subforum is something we really need for this. This will result in a well constructed hi-score competition and prevent having the Social Club swamped with hi-score threads. Again, it would mean the world to me and everybody who loves to play Mamegames and play in our GameEx Hi-Score competition if you could create such a subforum. Kind regards and I hope to hear from you, GimmeClassics

Han and me are discussing about a leaderboard and scoring-system. So there is a pretty good chance you will be awarded points when you have a top 5 hi-score position on a game Centipede included! Happy hi-scoring! GC
-
Hi Rtkiii. Still open for submitting. You don't have to submit a no.1 hi-score ! Every hi-score is welcome! Han and me are discussing about a leaderboard and scoring-system. So there is a pretty good chance you will be awarded points when you have a top 5 hi-score position on a game Donkey Kong included! When I started out playing Donkey Kong I really sucked at it but it's all about trial & error Happy hi-scoring! GC
-
Hahaha! And still scoring 67,270 points! Great job! What will your score be if you're not distracted by Naked Baby !! Hahaha!
-
@ Rtkiii: thank you for your enhusiasm in our Hi-Score Competition! Nice score! Me and Han are now talking about a scoring / leaderboard system we will be using for our Hi-Score Competition. When everything is decided I will post the results in this thread Happy Hi-scoring! GC

Change of management. It wasn't the case before. I also don't like it. But....: they check every hi-score and they're getting A LOT of hi-score sumbissions which they have to manually check for cheating and watch every video! It is at such a large scale that not getting paid implicates needing a lot of volunteers spending a lot of their free time checking everything. So I kind of get it they ask something for a sumbission. The price rate however is far to steep. Three hurrays for our GameEx Hi-Score Competition

Hi Rtkiii, A very nice idea. I actually thought of this yesterday evening > making a chart and giving points to the participants. This would even keep it more interesting in competing for hi-scores all year long! Me and Han have been setting up the rules and layout of the Hi-Score Competition so he also has to agree. So, here's my suggestion based on Rtkiii's post: Points can be earned by competing in the monthly hi-score competition. Place 1 - 10 points Place 2 - 5 points Place 3 - 3 points Place 4 - 2 points Place 5 - 1 points Place 6... - 0 points I already talked with Han about creating an "all time top scorers" - thread when May's Competition is over. Making a chart and awarding points is even better. @ Han: 1) if you agree I think we should already add the above points to place 1 till 5 in May's Competition thread. When May's competition is over I will create an "all time top scorers" - thread and transport the final results from May's Competition thread. Every month I will keep it up to date when the monthly competition is over. This will create a nice leaderboard 2) Rtkiii is suggesting to list everyone's personal best score. This would mean creating a Hi-Score Table of more than 5 positions. I think this will perhaps motivate more to submit their hi-score. Also players who aren't able to compete with the top 5 scores. I'm up for that. A little more work but i think it would create an even better hi-score competition. In regard to "more work" > I have sent you a PM 3) Should perhaps every participant get 1 point for participating and listing a hi-score ? The allocation of the above points will then change a little. Hope to hear from you. GC

Hi rtkii, welcome to our Hi-Score Competition. I'm glad you've joined Trying to get your name in our top 5 Hi-Score Table is a lot of fun ! If you haven't already voted for next month's game, please do so. Here is a link > link We hope to have even more games in the very near future. A dedicated hi score sub-forum would be an ideal situation ! (...@Draco : that would make me - and others - very happy ) Cheers and happy Hi-scoring to all! GC
