  1. @ Dazzle: nice score! My Galaga hi-scores are being saved. I'm using a self compiled version of Mame 0.147 I think it depends on which Mame-version you're using. Maybe you should try compiling 0.147 and see if this works for you GC
  2. Hi U-Man. Thank you for your enthusiasm! About the dip-switch settings: we've decided upon using the default Twin Galaxies settings. A great benefit is you can compare your score to the official Twin Galaxies hi-scores. Even when using "easy mode" and "most lifes" cheating can not be prevented. Somebody could play a game with more than 1 credit and submit their hi-score. We just have to assume that all participating will be honorable and play with no cheats or hacks I hope you can live with our rule using the default Twin Galaxies settings. If you have any other questions please feel free to ask. Thanks, GC
  3. To everybody: tomorrow our Mame Hi-Score Competition of May 2013 will start Today is your last chance of choosing a game in our May 2013 Poll > link The Hi-Score Competition of the choosen game will have a Hi-Score Table with the top 5 hi-scores. Wouldn't it be nice to have your name and score in the Hi-Score Table and competing for your best score Give it a shot and join our competition You're more than welcome !!! GC --------- # You can find all the threads in our Social Club >link # Here's a link to the rules you should follow when submitting a Hi-Score > link # If you have any questions or remarks, please add a reply in the general "Hi Score Competition" thread > link
  4. @kannadav: could you check the following: > do you have a 'hi-folder' in your mame root directory? > is the hiscore.dat present in your mame root directory? GC
  5. @ DazzleHP: you're allowed to submit as many hi-scores as you want. If one or more of your submitted hi-scores are good enough for a top 5 position your personal best will be shown in the Hi-Score Table. This will prevent having a 'top player' populate the entire hi-score table. Good luck with Galaga! If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask GC > I've edited the Hi-Score Competition rules in regard to your question (link)
  6. Welcome to our Hi-Score Competion. Glad you've joined Nice Donkey Kong score! Gives me something to aim at It's also one of my favorite games! Question: looking at your screenshot you have a very nice bezel: left / rigt / top and bottom! Please tell me how you did this What GameEx / Mame settings do I have to use and where did you get this bezel? GC (I've edited the High Score Table in post #1)
  7. Hi kannadav, when you have a compiled version of mame (hi.diff included) it should work in GameEx. When you choose a Mame-game a hi-score menu option should be visible. See screenshot below: HiToText support stopped at Mame version 0.139 per this post. In short its likely that ROMs that have been updated since this version of MAME supported by HiToText, may or may not currently work with HiToText since the affected ROMs and/or ROM sets may have been may have been updated in the meantime. However: I use a compiled version of Mame 0.147 and a lot of ROMs are still working with HiToText and show the highscore in GameEx like the screenshot above. I hope this will help you. >>> when you're interested in playing Mame-games and setting hi-scores: We have started a Mame Hi-Score Competition # You can find all the threads in our Social Club > link # Here's a link to the rules you should follow when submitting a Hi-Score > link # If you have any questions or remarks, please add a reply in the general "Hi Score Competition" thread > link I hope you will join our Hi-Score Competition: the more the merrier GC
  8. @Celly: wow, that's a lot of points ! I've just started to play and I'm still between 20.000 - 30.000. But I'm getting better Need a little practice....
  9. Nice one Lingpanda! I don't know how they did this, but amazing ! Cheers, GC
  10. 11. Hi Draco, Thank you for joining our hi-score competition discussion ! I'm really excited it's all getting started. I do understand you would like to see a limit to the number of simultaneous games being played so that the Social Club is not swamped with Hi-Score competition threads. One game at a time seems a fair solution in this context. I however think that creating a subforum for just high scores would be the ultimate solution . This would create the possibilty to choose from multiple games and try setting hi-scores for not just one game per month. I think this will attract more participants to our hi-score competition and generate more interest: the more the merrier Don't you agree? And: the Social Club is not really for Game-Ex / Mame related topics. Creating a subforum for hi-scores will result in having all the hi-score threads in one place: clean and simple. Maybe a possibility for the near future....? Love to hear what you think ! GC
  12. @ MNMax21, a kind request: could you perhaps change your post #1 to the layout used in the other hi-score competition threads (see Donkey Kong, Galaga, Centipede threads) ? I think it will work very well if every hi-score thread has the same layout and presenting the same kind of info for each game. I think this will create a clean and fair competition for each game Here are two links to the Twin Galaxies settings that should be used for Mario Bros. (US): medium settings ( I guess we should use the medium settings) hard settings I hope this is not a too bald request Kind regards, GC [ hi-score submission rules > link ]
  13. @ Hansolo: this is an updated link to the rules-post: http://www.gameex.in...ition/?p=102755 The link in your post#1 is not working right now. Please used this new link I'm really excited the competition is getting started ! Game On!
  14. @ Hansolo, thank you for using my suggested layout when creating a hi-score thread. I think this definitely will create a clean and fair hi-score competition I noticed my "Rules for submitting you hi-score" thread is integrated in the general "Hi-score competition" thread as a seperate post. I can live with that This is an updated link to the rules-post: http://www.gameex.info/forums/topic/12699-hi-score-competition/?p=102755 The link in your post#1 is not working right now. Please used this new link I'm really excited the competition is getting started ! Game On!
  15. @ Hansolo77 and MNMax21: a very great idea Hansolo. I adjusted the rules immediately See post #54 I've also adjusted the Hi-Score Competition thread for Donkey Kong so you can see the new rules in action Just to be clear: I'm not trying to force my rules upon anyone but I think it's more fun when we create a fair competition with everybody using the same settings I think each Hi-Score thread should have the same "layout" and everybody following the same rules. It's keeping things clean and simple. One last thing: Like if have mentioned in the rules I think everybody should add the comment: "Settings used of post #1" to their hi-score submission because it confirms he or she has read post #1 and is using the correct settings. Especially if you have a hi-score thread of several pages somebody who submits a new hi-score may have well not read post #1 with the correct settings. I hope you agree and we can come up with a final set of rules and submission guidelines which everyone should follow. Hope to hear from you GC [ a hi-score subforum would be very cool indeed. Hope this will be possible in the near future ]
  16. Here's my hi-score submission for Donkey Kong: > Hi-score: 55.700 points > Settings used of post #1 > Mame 0.147 compiled used > Screenshot of my hi-score: I hope a lot of you will try to beat my hi-score. I'll definitely try to get better Cya, GC (Dennis) [initials used when playing games = DEN ]

  18. Hello everybody, I'm really excited about our Mame hi-score competition! I thought it would be nice to have a topic with the rules we should follow when submitting a hi-score. This creates a fair competition with everybody using the same settings. Of course we also have to assume that all participating will be honorable and play with no cheats or hacks I've already discussed this in the "Hi Score Competition"-thread (post #34, #37, #38) and I got positive reactions. If any of you got other / better ideas I'd love to hear them and an adjustment will be made. # Rules for submitting a hi-score 1) Use the correct (dip-switch) settings when playing your Mame-game Look for the Hi-Score Competition-topic of the game you want to play and read post #1 for the settings you have to use when you want to submit your hi-score 2) Only use 1 credit per game 3) Submit a screenshot of your hi-score screen 4) Be honorable and play with no cheats or hacks 5) You're allowed to submit as many hi-scores as you like * * In post #1 of each Hi-Score Competition thread a Hi-Score Table is shown with the top 5 hi-scores of that game. You're allowed to submit as many hi-scores as you want. If one or more of your submitted hi-scores are good enough for a top 5 position your personal best will be shown in the Hi-Score Table. This will prevent having a 'top player' populate the entire hi-score table. The settings being used are the default settings Twin Galaxies uses. Twin galaxies is an organization that tracks video game world records since 1981 and Guiness World Records considers them to be the official supplier of verified world records. A fair competition is created as everybody uses the same settings and it's possible to compare your own score to the official TG scores. # A short walkthrough of submitting your hi-score: 1) Use the correct settings and play your game a. Look for the Hi-Score Competition-topic of the game you want to play. b. Read topic's post #1 for the (dip-switch) settings you have to use when you want to submit your hi-score. c. Start Mame and - when necessary - change your dip-switch-settings by hitting Tab after you have started your game. d. Make a screenshot of your hi-score screen 2) Submit your hi-score Reply to the Hi-Score competition-topic of your game and add the following info: > Your score > Settings used of post #1 (please add this comment as a confirmation you have used the correct settings) > Version of Mame used (Example: Mame 147 compiled) > Screenshot of your hi-score I've made a Hi Score Competition topic for Donkey Kong following the above guidelines. Here's a link: http://www.gameex.info/forums/topic/12718-hi-score-competition-donkey-kong/?p=102756 I hope you all agree. If not > I'm open for all sugestions If you have any questions please ask Have fun playing Mame and setting hi-scores ! Thanks, GC
  19. That's absolutely true. Keep it simple is the best. I agree. Love to hear what you think of the other rules and how to go from here
  20. @Draco: I actually think you're 100% right I think the majority of those who want to join our hi-score competition want to use their current version of Mame and use Mame with GameEx as a frontend. When you want to record your game by creating a INP-file you cannot use Mame with GameEx but you would have to use Mame standalone - outside of GameEx. And that's not ideal So - as long as GameEx cannot be used to submit and organize scores - I think submitting a screenshot of you hi-score screen is the best option. Sorry for changing my mind so often Like Draco is saying: “We just have to assume that all participating will be honorable and play "vanilla" with no cheats or hacks” So I think we have to come up with a set of rules. My suggestion: 1) Everybody has to use the default dip-switch-settings of Twin Galaxies when playing a Mame-game (see post #23) The nice thing of following the Twin Galaxies settings is you can compare your own score to the "official" Twin Galaxies scores. A great extra benefit I think. And everybody uses the same settings when submitting their Mame-scores of a particular game. 2) You're allowed to only use 1 credit per game 3) You have to submit a screenshot of your hi-score screen > optional: also submit a screenshot of your dip-switch-settings. See below: Love to hear what you think of these rules. And how do we go from here? Should there be a specific forum section for uploading your hi-scores (like MNMax is suggesting)? That would be very cool. A set of 10-12 specific games or 1 game per month? I'd like to hear what your ideas are ? Thanks in advance, GC
  21. The majority decides of course. I'd love to hear the final opinion of everyone interested in competing amongst each other for the GameEx Hi-score competition Everyone can read the + and -/- of both options reading this topic. So i'm interested in the final verdict GC
  22. When posting a INP-file everyone should use the same wolfmame-version to be able to load and watch the recorded video in wolfmame That is, if the majority wants to use this method which again is very easy and has much less risks of cheating compared to just submitting a screenshot of your hi-score. GC
  23. Hi celly, when using a screenshot only you can don't know if more than one credit has been used. 1-credit only should be a rule. This is also a general rule twin galaxies is using for their official records. If you want to be able to check if one credit is used we should use something like wolfmame and submit the recorded INP-file together with a screenshot of the hi-score attempt. The INP-can be played back with mame. But I don't know if the majority wants to use this procedure...? It would be more fair and have a less risk of cheating. I'd love to hear your opinion GC
  24. I also think uploading a screenshot of the hi-score screen of the game is (right now) the best solution - as long as GameEx can not be used to submit and organize scores. I really hope Tom or any administrator can make a specific forum section for this hi-score competition like MNMax21 is suggesting. That would be very nice! Maybe someone can ask Tom to create such a forum section...? What I would like to hear from you guys is the following: I think it is fair if everybody uses the same settings when submitting their Mame-scores of a particular game. In this context I think it would be very nice if we follow the dip-switch-settings that Twin Galaxies* is using for Mame-games. Example when we submit a Donkey Kong record to our own hi-score competition: When playing Donkey Kong with Mame we should use the "Donkey Kong US Set 1" - ROM and the default Donkey Kong dip switch settings which can be found on the Twin Galaxies website: ROMSet: DKong (US set 1) Lives: 3 Bonus life: 7000 Special Rules: None (link to these settings: http://www.twingalaxies.com/operator.php?gameid=6648&platformid=46&variationid=7721 ) The nice thing of following the Twin Galaxies settings is you can compare your own score to the "official" Twin Galaxies scores. A great extra benefit I think. I hope you guys agree Love to hear your reactions. GC ---------- * For those who didn't know: Twin galaxies is an organization that tracks video game world records since 1981 and Guiness World Records considers them to be the official supplier of verified world records.
