I want my default theme png to display instead of artwork, which is displays as the background image if there is any for the current selection, and just a black screen if not. The correct background appears when I first enter the screen then disappears as the artwork (or lack thereof) displays. I looked through all the settings and could not find what it might be. This behavior leads me to beleave it's a setting somewhere instead of a theme related issue. read on... I'm trying to make a custom theme and this is not default behavior of the template theme (If I switch back it doesn't do this). I went through all the entries in the templates box and pointed the background at the appropriate custom pngs. I have not messed with the entries in the Objects box yet. I'm not sure how to use it yet. It has entries for things like emulators that differ from the layout of my templates, but they don't seem to interfere. So I left them alone. Could the conversion process have changed objects/templates in a way that could cause this? GameEx.ini

The topic here:http://www.gameex.info/forums/topic/14800-optimizing-my-disk-space/page-2 made me wonder how/if SD can handle a 7z zipped iso? Say you wanted to use this feature in gameex and SD to handle disk swaps, what would be the hurtles? Can ePSXecutor be used on zipped isos?

Agreed, 0:54/2:00 looks very familiar and the fact that GameEX already has support for CPW built in shows president. I'm sure this is new functionality in evo, but a head start might not be bad. I'm using the patch method in MAME. I would like to create a default layout scheme that can be applied for all the roms. I'm using a 32" LDC mounted vertically. There is lots of space above and below 4:3 format games (say Mortral Kombat). I've modified the layout for it such that it meets my needs (And it looks cool I might add). But when I export the batch to my artwork folder it asks me to overwrite my custom layout files. I could say no and add the png manually, but that would require considerable *.lay modding. When exporting is there a way to modify the layout that it generates to conform to a template I can customize or to the one that already exists. This way I can set the controls to show up in the black space below the game and marquees show up at the top? Or will I have to copy the png manually for each game and modify the Layout one by one. That will take forever. I envision a field in CPW where you select a folder containing marquees, game info, etc. then CPW would generate the layout to conform to a template you preconfig, with profiles for the format of the game type (eg: 4:3, vertical scrolling, etc. sicnce they would differ). Are you aware of a layout gui/modifier that could streamline the process of creating custom layouts for the artwork folder. So I can download artwork from mr. do's and modify it with the controls png generated by CPW, and save it without coding.I'm sure this is probably a pipe dream. I doubt there is any way around doing this manualy. Who knows: Someone here might!

I have a few custom layout files that get overwritten by the export. Do I have to just re-edit them manualy to include the new controls image? Or am I missing an option that will merge the new lay strings to the existing ones I made?

Thanks, that took care of all but #1. But I've moved over to the other thread for it.

This is my first time using CPW. When exporting the bezels, how do I merge them with my existing bezels without ruining my custom layouts? What is the function of the "Vertical Orientation" check box? What does the resolution setting "Layout size" do? How do I apply the patch that allows me to view the CP in MAME while pausing (I'm using MAMEUI v0.149)? Should I compile with the 0144, 0151, or 0153 patch? Is there any support for emulators, or is it limited to MAME controls?

Has anyone made a Theme Editor tutorial?
RIP-Felix replied to RIP-Felix's topic in GameEx Media Projects
Might be best to merge this thread into the Theme questions thread... Ok, then. I've been working on a Vertscreen version of "My games for MCE (widescreen)" for my cabinet and a Custom version for my HTPC. Been wondering a few things, thought I'd ask as I couldn't find a tutorial. is there a way to change where the default position of the text that appears next to the buttons when viewing the controls? I've modified the Picture to work (see pic below) but the buttons are in the default position, not matching my panel. If I can move the text positions then I can use my own Panel. Is there a way to specify different layout positions, eg. picture 1 and picture 2 positions, on a per screen basis. For example (see attached photos) on the start screen, Image 1 displays console/system logos. In the mame screen, Image 2 displays marquees. On my cabinet (pictured), I would like to put the marques in the place where the time and date are currently when in the mame screen, but The system logos also look good there on the start screen, but that is Image 1. So I would like Image one there on the start screen, but image 2 there on the mame screen. Can this be done? -
I'm looking for a tutorial but don't see one, just a questions thread. Maybe someone can point me in the right direction.

Hmm, I got the opposite impression today until about 4ish? Seemed like the general section had noticeably fewer posts. Maybe I'm lurking in the wrong forum? Oh well, I guess the anticipation for has me seeing ghosts! Actually come to think of it this thread should probably be moved to the social club. Moderators wave your magic wands! Oh, wait! I know what it is. Everyone can't wait anymore and pulled a Cartman, freezing them selves until comes out! Maybe I should join them. #Cryogenics. Man, what I wouldn't give for another countdown timer. Yes, it fooled me too. I thought it was a release date. The video is sweet though.

Hey, your spoiling my narrative with reality. Use your imagination instead...like "They are being forced to listen to Vogon poetry." That's pretty scary!

AaaaaHhhhh! A Nerf Herder! Run away...very bad thing! The expression on my avatar says it all! [i just peed a little] So, there is someone lurking out there. Why the haunted house ambiance?

Why is the forum so dead today? Seriously it's like a post apocalyptic city with nothing in the streets but a few lost animals. The silence is so deafening I might start talking to the manikins ! To quote the beetles, "Help! I need somebody..."

Just google ePSXe settings for the game you want. That has worked best for me, in the past. I find that ngemu forums have the best info for game specific ePSXe configurations. Hail to the king, baby!

I placed GameEX in the startup folder, set my desktop background to black, and set the start bar to auto hide. That way when windows loads you don't see anything before GameEX loads. Also I don't need to hide windows, when emulators are loaded I don't see the desktop flicker before the emu kicks in because it's black. I had trouble with the hide desktop function. So no IS necessary for me! I thought an example of how another does it might help. YMMV. I've had intermittent issues with GameEX loosing focus too. I've stopped all nonessential startup processes and set some others to wait a few minuets. Now the only time it does it is when my security program (Norton Security Suite) decides to notify me about monthly security reports, or auto updates. Its an attention seeker, taking focus from GameEX. So in short lots of things can do this and good luck fingering out what it is. I wish I could be more helpful.

I set it up as instructed in the wiki and once in the race its not slow-mo anymore, but the game really hangs up on the 3-2-1-count down. Too bad the dev team can't employ a database that applys the best settings automatically upon game load. Which you could then tweak and save to the DB, so that this process doesn't have to be repeated every time. Then again, if it were that easy it'd be done already. Oh, well...

Honestly, I just don't seem to have the interest in the indie scene or newer game titles to get onboard with steam. I don't see the sale as being enough to send me over the edge. I think I'll stick to the retro arcade titles. With time being tight, I find a few minuets on the arcade as a distraction still has it's place, but rarely do I find hours to waste on anything but a huge title like Metroid or Zelda. I think I may not get another console! I'm shifting to the nostalgic instead! #GrowingPains

Are you guys actually getting DX options, Mine are all Diirect3D options. Direct3D9 (Hardware) is alittle faster than 11, but not enough to get Gran Turismo 3 out of slow motion in an actual race. Anyone able to run this game smoothly?

My mind has just been blown by emulation recently
RIP-Felix replied to uberpubert69's topic in Social Club
Honestly, I'm worried about the size of the Games! I mean, when you get into the Blu-ray disc game territory space is going to go right quick. More than that access times on large HDs may not be fast enough to emulate them properly. Now you start to see how expensive this can get, if you need large SSD drives to run them. We'll be dependent on Moores Law not failing. -
These upper end APU's, and CPUs for that matter, are already overclocked close to their stable OC potential. With the Phenom series I was only able to achieve a 200-600MHz increase before reaching an asymptotic Voltage limit (no amount of increase overcame the instability). Temps were fine. With this APU I've had temperature problems with any Overclocking; It's a Mini ITX HTPC custom build. I used the best HS that would fit, but still this APU's heat ramp is steep compared to the Phenom series. I'd be interested to hear what the potential is for this little beast, with a cooler able to handle its tantrums. But honestly, for emulation I think you will see the best results from the graphics card your talking about. You could try overclocking the APU's graphics, but you'll have to search the interweb because I'm green on that front. Also, I'm not sure it would still be possible to use the crossfire feature (forgot what it's called) if you do OC the graphics. I thought I read somewhere that the feature only worked with certain programs/games able to take advantage of it. Frankly, I think a dedicated card is the best solution for graphics anyway, if your install permits..

Looking for a new MAME game I haven't played yet
RIP-Felix replied to RIP-Felix's topic in Social Club
how dos that work, like star rating the best in the same category you haven't played? PS: Why won't the forum let me paste text, links, etc. Also, the quote controls or buttons in the full editor don't work. Like inserting a link. Are ther cookies that need to be enabled, third party and etc. Because I think I have my browser (IE) set to deny them. -
I'm looking for something relatively tame, not splatter house. I like Bubble bobble, 1941, Mrs. Pac-Man, NFL Blitz. I'm looking for a golden gem I never played before. Any Ideas?

World's Largest Video Game Collection Up For Sale!
RIP-Felix replied to Draco1962's topic in Social Club
Wow, I wonder how much he spent to collect it though. I'd think it was a loss, but who knows, maybe some of the older rarer titles made up the difference and he turned a profit. -

Any recommendations to pop my steam cherry? Preferably free. -

What's worse, that the OP just got a smartphone or that I don't know what Steam is (besides the gas phase of water)? Ok, I'll admit I know it's some kind of online gaming thing but I haven't looked into it nor played a single title.
