  1. Well I suppose I could look into virtual drives, but honestly I'd like to keep it clean. Are you using virtual drives? Maybe you could point me toward a tutorial for what I should use. Oh, I forgot to mention that GameEX regainf focus just after SD completes the disc change operation. So we still have a few kinks to work out. For the better for sure, might slow down the dev. process but it gives you a chance to get user feedback and not alienate them from SD. Yes, I can use all other mouse functions except that button.
  2. Just realized that I had the "Use default disc" option checked. (Options > GDRom > Use default disc.) That made it automatically load a default disc instead of opening the dialog. The process now works! However: Now when I first open nullDC it opens the dialog box with the last run game instead of autoloading the one I selected in GameEX. That is what the "Use default disc" function was apaently for. If I keep it selected the swap disc function just autoloads the same game already loaded and nothing happens. I don't know if we can get GameEX to pass the discpath/diskfile into the dialog box and open it. Once I manually get the first part going and the game is running, The SD sequence completes sucessfuly.LOG: Duh...Silly me! Yeah, I don't know what else to add, it just crashes without warning when I press the button. Ushally windows displays all .NET updates and versions when I update. I make it a point to download them if they are not automatically. So I'm sure they are good to go. The mouse move function does work when I manually wrote the instructions into the config, just not when using the GUI. I wonder if someone else can verify that it is working on their win 7 x64 machine. Then at least we might know if the problem is on my computer or in SD's code.
  3. I have .net 4.0, windows 7 x64, C++ runtimes through 2010, and am running nullDC_104_r50 because r136 won't run for some reason (error says it's not a valid win32 application). SD Config: Ok, so the open fil dialog that comes up in nulldc when you select to open an iso must not be stock. Is there a way to pass the disc selection into the open field? A paste disc selection button would be ideal in this case.
  4. Yes, the configurator just closes without warning or error message each time I press the mouse move button. The other mouse functions seem to work ok. I just copied it directly into the config file and it works fine until it reaches the swap disc menu then returns this error message: "Sequence contains no elements". LOG: I'm not sure how the disc swap operation works in nullDC, so I may not have a setting right in there. I'm not sure what you mean about pasting the current dics selection. I have been trying to set a sequence of keypresses to open the game selection in nullDC (windows explorer window). I have goten that far with mouse clicks alone ( I will probably change that to a combination of alt/arrows/tabs in case the window isn't always in the same screen position), but am trying to paste the selected disc into the open dialog box and press open. Of course this is not the disc swap operation method built into nullDC, if we can get that working then that would be ideal. This is just another way to load the other disc. I'll mess with it a little more to see if I can figure it out.
  5. I am attempting to setup my own nullDC config, with some success, I like the mouse function! However the mouse move button causes the configurator to close and won't let me set a mouse movement (which is required to make the menu appear). If the menu is present first the mouse clicks I used work well to get me to the games. Questions: 1) How do I pass the Rom name into the dialog box to open the right file? I assume it involve the open file diaglog special operation. (As a side note, a description of what these do when you hover over them would be useful ) 2) How do I get the mouse move function to work / is there another way to call up the menu?
  6. So are you saying that a mouse click on the GUI won't work? I know that when I click the mouse on the GUI it brings full focus to SD, but perhaps the method for controlling the mouse fucntions in program are limited in this way, IDK. When I call up SD the GUI appears in full screen as it should, but will not accept the navigation keys untill I click on the screen (GUI). That is why I was wondering if it would possable to just emulate a mouse click and move the mouse off screen while we are at it. As for the second part, I'm still using the ePSXecutor_Wrapper method we originally developed. I have not messed with the built in disc changing of 1.8 yet. Perhaps you can post a config of that setup as well as nullDC's. Also, I tried the epsxe_escape command and it causes GameEx to come back into focus and the exit SD command string to pass. So as soon as the SD GUI appears it exits and gameEX comes back up. But like I said I'm still using the wrapper.
  7. Nice update null, I'll test and see if I can get nullDC to work through the sendkey builder now that mouse functions can also be used. I'm sure I'll need help with it but untill then, congrats on the new update. Edit: I was just installing 1.0.4 and setting up gameEx to test and see if ePSXe was still working and noticed a few things I thought I might rehash. Switchdisk and ePSXe are still fighting for focus. Just wondering if there was any progress on that one. ***EDIT*** Actually I just realized now that you implemented mouse functions, I should be able to just add a mouse click after switchdisc is called to grab focus. I'll give that a try...Nope. Unfortunatly, the before and after switchdisk fields don't occur when the GUI is up.The default mouse position is still in the millde of the screen when switchdisc is triggered, there is some space on the bottom and right side to hide it (the bottom right corner is sometimes used as desktop peek in windows, I don't know if that spot could ever casue problems, but something to keep in mind). This one should be a relitivly simple fix.I wonder if you could kill two pigs with one bird by making the default mouse position out of view, then left click once the GUI has appeared. That way it should always be in focus and the mouse would be out of the way untill needed.
  8. Actually it's working fine in GameEx now. For somew reason it doesn't want to respond in MAME. Although I think it is working, at least when I run the in-game diagonostics. It just doesn't want to work when actual game is ran. I will get back to you when I have a chance to look into it a little more. The problem right now is that my machine is a little weak to handle the racing games I've tested. Til then...
  9. I thought I would post here to let the OP know that I am having the same problem and that it has been mostly resolved in the thread I started Here: http://www.gameex.info/forums/topic/12215-gameex-steering-wheel-logitech-driving-force/
  10. Thanks, hopefully it wont come to that. I discovered something interesting while testing this on my other computer (win 7 x64). It works, drivers and all! Well mostly. It worked like it did before I installed the drivers the first time in my xp machine. I calibrated it and what not, and it is recognized in mame just fine....Oh snap...I figured it out! While I was writing this I wen't back into gameEx and realized why this is happening. The use custom gamepad option is turned off in my win 7 machine and it is on for the XP (Arcade). The reason I did that was to customize the gameex controlls but it would only recognize the down movement, except for the POV (D-Pad). It was the fact that I set the D-Pad functions to up and downthat I didn't realize what is happening. The Gas pedal is set to the y-axis!!! That means that it is the up and down movement on a joystick. However, the issue is that the zero point is in the middle of the depression against the spring. So when it is not in that postion it is regestered as a down press. That is why both myself and the other OP were having it hold the down button and loop the list. If I hold the gas pedal down half way I can navigate with the D-pad and select a game. Ok, so now that the problem has been identified, how can I re-assign the gas pedal to,say the z-axis instead of the y-axis? ***EDIT*** Ok, Ifigured it out. There is an option in the configuration and calibration that says"combine gas and break pedal". That reassigns the gas pedal away from the y-axis and removes the problem. I'm still working out the kinks but it works better now. The only problem now is that GameEx doesn't recognise the pedal presses anymore. I don't know if they are on an axis that gameEx doesn't look at or what. That is not a big deal though.
  11. Yep, That is the same issue alright. I had the looping issue too when loop list was enabled. As long as the thing is not touched it does not do it, then as soon as you press a button or the wheel it holds the down btn. That OP mentioned that he tried uninstalling the drivers and that did not fix the issue. However when I first plugged it in GameEx recognized it and it worked fine, except that I could only use the wheel and not the pedals (which is why I installed the logitech driver). Even in Crus'n World I was able to set it up (actually the defaults in mame worked, except the pedals). I will try uninstalling the driver to see if it will reset back to the way it was before. The issue sounds like an option needs to be turned off or GameEx needs to be patched for these devices. I'll try every option I can in the logitech software first, to rule settings out. Then uninstall the driver. I imagine that these wheels are fairly common, and something many users would try to use with GameEx, if for nothing else than to save themselves the money of buying a new one (assuming they work any better). I'll update this when I know more. Thanks for the link... ***EDIT*** Ok, so I tried every option I could try in the Logitech Gaming Software I could and nothing helped. The problem may lie with the way GameEx (and Mame for that matter) interperit the controls. Windows and even PC games (except MAME) seem to understand just fine...Weird. The keboard assignments I mentioned before work fine, when I opened word. I think that might mean that gameEx needs an update for this. But since MAME has the same issue, the benifit of updating would be for mainly PC racing games and not mame. I tried all of the setting in the input section of the wizzard to see if anything was interferring and nothing seems to change the way the controller functions are interperited by GameEx (Down). I uninstalled the software and the drivers are still burried in windows, dang it! I tried uninstallung them in device manager but when I re plug the controller it installs the same drivers, aparently it just removes the device not the actual driver. I had this problem with a blutooth driver once, very annoying. I suppose I could dig into windows 32 looking for the driver and manually delete it, but first I will try a reset point. That ushally works, and without the damaging effects that removing drivers manually might have. That fixed the blutooth issue, maybe it will this one as well. ***EDIT*** Nope. The system for some reason will not let me complete a system restore. Every time it says "system restore incomplete" no matter how far I go back. I tried removing the drivers myself and it did not work. I just restored them back from the trash. So now I'm stuck. Unless I want to try a fresh install of windows, which would take about 2 days to get back to where I'm at now. All just to see if I can get this thing to work like it did before I ever installed thoes ******* logitech drivers. Now I'm pissed.
  12. Anyone had trouble with GameEx using steering wheels? I am trying to reuse an old Logitech Driving Force steering wheel I bought for my Playstation 2. I downloaded the "Logitech Gaming Software" from here: http://www.logitech.com/en-us/support/driving-force-gt?crid=411&osid=14&bit=64#section=downloads I went through the setup and calibrated it. It works fine with the default logitech assignments in the controller properties window. However, in GameEx it will only recognise the POV (D-pad) and all other functions are assigned to down. So if I press any other button it causes the down key to be held down. Also, it seems to disable my X-Arcade tanksticks assignments. So I can't use them while it is plugged in. I tried messing with some input settings in the wizard, but when I press any other button than one of the POVs (D-Pad), it recognises it as down? It does this for each button. I lastly tried opening the logitech profiler, created a new profile called "GameEx" and assigned keystrokes to the buttons. I made them the same as the button assignments my X-arcade uses, to no avail. GameEx still recognises them as down and my x-arcade still does not function at the same time. Oh, I thought I should add that gameex recognized it and was working ok, before the software install. It just did not recognise the peddals (maybe more, I didn't test it much before installing the logitech drivers). So that indicates to me that gameex knew what it was even before the computer did! That might also mean that gameex if fighting with logitech's driver. I was wondering if this is a known issue and what the solution is? I tried searching but did not see anything. Sorry if this has been covered already.
  13. I have both romcenter and clrmamepro. Ok, lets move past the weird problems I was having before, say post #26 and after is still relavent as far as mame goes. Lets say I want to update my rom set. If I had a full set of 0.143 roms and I want to update them to 147for example. The following are the steps I would take, this is just what I think Ihave learned so far, so please critique if necessary. Obtain an update set of roms, say 143 - 144. Is it possable to go strait to 147 or do I have to do it incrementally? Copy them into the folder that contains the 143 set. (Here is where I'm a little foggy, I read that you need to delete all the files that are zero bites in size. I'm not sure to what they are reffering to. I don't see how there would be any that end up being zero in size. unless they mean I'm somehow suposed to merge the new updated files into the archives with the old files and deleate the roms that are now unnecessary. If that is the case I assume ther is a way to do that in romcenter or clrmamepro that I'm not familiar with yet.) Then use the fix function to scan and fix all the roms that can be fixed and to remove the unnecessary files. Lastly you will be left with an updated set, correct?. I understand there will still be some game without certain roms that need to be "obtained" and added to the archive for that rom to work. Do I simply open the archive in 7z and copy/paste it in then run fix on that game to verify it?Now to a more relavent example. A person who only has a hanfull fo games they want to update or get working: Make sure that the bios file for the game is in the roms folder and is a *.zip file Obtain the appropriate sample file and place in the samples folder (if needed for your game) Obtain the appropriate *.chd for your game (if any) andplace in a folder with the same name as the game, and located in the roms directory. Scan and fix the roms using the data file from the version of make that you want it to work in. Obtain the missing roms that clr or romcenter reports are needed. Then somehow merge the new roms into the archive. Then sacn again to verify that it is fixed/remove unnecessary files. It took me quite a while to get this far, I'm supprised I'm still interested. Please help me get over the last few hurtles, I think I'm getting close.
  14. Ok, I'm getting along better now. I found it easier to get the games working by using the version of mame they were verified for. Also, I'm not trying to update them. If I can get it working in one version that is the version I will use for that game. I can always group the mame versions in Gameex. So that is what I plan to do. 3 questions: 1) How can I make GameEx display the game names, other than making my own map file? I think someone mentioned it was possable. 2) When I use the group option and select the MAME logo to be displayed, it does not display for the group. It will work for an emulator not in a group, just not a group of emulators. I'm using the arcade logo right now for the group, which works fine. I was just wondering if the mame logo not appearing was a bug. 3) Is there a way to tell GameEx not to display certain Games in the list? So for instance, if only want to display the 1941 USA and not 1941 world. 1941.zip is the parent rom to 1941u.zip so both need to be in the folder to get the US version to work, but I just want the USA version displayed In GameEx.
  15. Thanks guys I'll check out thoes instructions first and post back my results later. If I can create a data profile from the exact mame list my version of mame is using then It should work better. We will see... As for the roms, I made apoint to copy them to another directory first, so I just deleated the ruined oned and replaced them with the originals. So there is no need to retrieve the backups clr makes (I woulden't trust it anyway, at least not yet). EDIT: I am having the same problem. There seem to be bits and pieces of rom sets that it copies and moves around to new sets that I never even had. Honestly, I'm expecting it to just compair the roms I have to the data file and spit out the problems with only thoes. But instead I have to scroll down the entire list and find one of the games I have to find out what it thinks is wrong with it. If I hit fix with only 1941 in the folder, it spits out 1941, 1942, 1943, bublbobl, and suprglob. If I start mame none will work. That was if I selected I perfer "merged sets" in the scanner options. I will also get different results if I select, say "split sets", which spits out an incomplete set of 19 roms! This makes me think that this manager is designed to fix only a complete set of roms. If you had every rom in existance then maybe it would be able to move them around to the right place and make complete sets, but if you have just one your screwed. I don't know, maybe that's what the rebuilder is for. I still have more reading to do... *** I have done alot more testing, reading, fooling around, and copy/paste/delete cycles. I found that romcenter seems to be producing better results than clrmamepro. To be fair, I just ran it over my entire collection of games, then went 1 by 1 in mame to test for functionality. I added the fixed roms sets to a folder containing working roms and tested in 147 to be sure. I imagine they would both work the same, but I think romcenter is more user friendly. It seemed to spit out the results that I was expecting. In any case I think I'm getting the hang of it. I can see why people collect the entire rom sets for mame. The more you have, the more files the manager has to look at to find a missing file and fix sets with. I think I prefer merged sets, one 1942.zip file is easier than 1942.zip, 1942a.zip, and 1942b.zip cluttering up my folder and rom lists in either gameex or mame. Is there any reason I should not choose to fix my roms into merged sets (I ask because the default is split sets, and wasn't sure why)?
  16. Ok, thanks. I saw that before but made a mistake implementing the advice. [Resolved] You need to create a folder in the main MESS directory (the one where the "mess.exe" application is) called "roms". Then you need to place the "snes.zip" archive containing the BIOS into that folder. In fact the snes refrence in the command "mess.exe snes -cart "[ROMPATH]\[ROMFILE]" -joy -now " is telling MESS to use the snes.zip archive containing the BIOS. It just needed to be in the ...MESS\roms\snes.zip directory.
  17. Doing some more research, sounds like I need to have the SNES bios. Any idea where to put it? The mess folder doesn't have a roms folder in it (at least not by default). I just use the command "[ROMPATH]\[ROMFILE]" in gameex to launch the roms in another folder. So if the bios file is supposed to go there will mess know where to be looking for it?
  18. Anyone know why my SNES games start to load and imediatly fail in MESS. My SNES games are in .sfc format which I understand is the same as .SMC. I already tried renaming them to no avail. I prefer using mess over zsnes (fewer keys assigned to emu functions that get in the way of my x-arcade tanksticks). Emu Config:
  19. All right, back on topic. I am trying to use clrmamepro to verify my rom sets and chds. I have downloaded the newest version of clrmamepro (cmp409a x64) and followed the directions here: http://www.mameworld.info/easyemu/clrmameguide/clrmame-guide.html I used the mame 0.147 datafile from here: http://www.progettosnaps.net/dats_en.html and it ruined all of my roms (I backed them up first). It renamed roms, added some, and removed my chds all together. Afterwards none of them ran, whereas all of them did before. I wanted it ti fix them not break them! It trys to compare them against a rom list and removes unnecessary files, rename files, and identify missing files as needed. One problem I would like to solve is that it displays all games/variants there are for mame and not just the ones I have. I know I don't have the files for "some game" because I don't have that game. I just want it to report the problems with the games I do have. Do I need the whole dang collection of rom sets to get this thing to work or what? BTW: I'm nearly ready to give up on mame. This is way to convoluted a process for a emulator. Is there something I'm missing or is this the same trouble everyone trying to use MAME deals with?
  20. Well, I'm not married yet so that conversation will have to wait. I imagine the size and space it takes up is the bigger issue (It's 25.5" W x 29" D x 78" H), not to mention brings a tavern feel to any room you put it in (Recommended for a game room / man cave). I should have gone with a cherry stain, the darker red oak (more like green oak) has a greener base color to it. I like the darkness, just wish the base color/ irredescent color was red. The green tint is what gives it that tavern feel. A lighter stain, or redder one at least, would have broader appeal. Plus stained wood has class, something that cartoony decals on the side lack IMO. Like I said I can always paint it later. The vertical screen works great with vertical game like 19xx and looks like a regular 19" landscape screen for games like Bubble Bobble (albeit a little small for my liking). The real problem is the video setup. The emu has to support custom resolutions, or nativly support a variety of screens, like MAME which works great. ZSNES worked great after putting in a custom resolution. I will admit that Tecmo Bowl does not work well in this screen orientation, but 32" is large enough to easily see what you are doing and get a kick out of that incessent "hut, hut, hut..." I still have a lot more emus to test, but FCE Ultra doesn't seem to work, nor does GENS. I will need to find alternatives for emus that won't work, if possable. For this reason I don't recommend going the vertically mounted screen route, unless you are willing to sacrifice using some of your gaming collection when you can't find an emu that works. If I were to do it again, I would make the cabinet smaller, to minimize space, and to showcase a smaller 4:3 screen. I would go with at least a 27" 4:3 screen. Problems I faced when considering that possability was the $500 price tag on a 29" model Arcade CRT and the lack of larger than 20" LCD 4:3 screens, which were just too small to warrant the cabinet build. I already had the 32" so I saved a large chunck of change repurposing it. All in all, the cabinet makes simple games like NES, Genesis, Gameboy, Atari, MAME and MUGEN more fun, but SNES, N64, PS1, PS2, Dreamcast, and GC Games are better with controllers IMO (except for maybe some fighting games and arcade classic ports). RANT Warning: Sorry if that offends anyone, I'm just venting some frustration.
  21. Thanks, I will be more careful from now on. I been working on the cabinet/other stuff and haven't had a chance to post an update in awhile. The cabinet is finished! Just software to work out now. Thanks about the map file, that works great. You can see the cabinet it in the attached pic.
  22. Ok, that explains it. Thanks Tom it works perfectly now. Feel free to mark this thread [Resolved].
  23. The download installer seems to have problems. After unzipping and running it says "GameEx has stopped working" (Win 7 x64) And does not run. Perhaps this fix will rollover into the next update?
  24. Is there a way to do this in an advanced emulator config or another way until the bug is fixed?
