In regards to joystick input for the GameEx interface, would it be possible to allow for any connected joystick to navigate the menus and not just a single predefined one? I have two PSX->USB converters connected to the media computer, with a gamepad on one and the PSX remote on the other, so it would be great if either of these could control GameEx.

Hello !

Just want to know if your planning to add a better handling of non-W.media player (i found it a bit too "process-heavy" since the V9) jukebox playlist.

I have disabled original jukebox

Game Ex plays Mp3 from my setuped mp3 folder

I have tried to setup Winamp as a default player but it quits Game Ex (I have a 2.X version)

Perhaps I didn't set it properly  but I have found no way for manage mp3, m3u playlist.

GameEx, does not support external players. unless you using something completly seperate like Arcade Jukebox. It does not use Meida Player for playing the files, just for getting the tag information for the files. The only other way to do it would be to have an 'Update/Import' in GameEx for music where I would read the tags and store in a file. This is probably a good idea, that I may look at. It will also better allow ogg and m4a files which GameEx support but the Media Player lib does not.

It will be nice!

I found that setuping a mp3 folder and changing tracks by my controller is pretty convenient.

If Wmplayer doesn't play the song i'll give it a try ;)

The thing you should take care of is the way that users can setup GameEx.

The actual way takes a lot of time because of the GameEx close/open command.

Of course you can edit any .ini files but it takes times too.

Hi Tom,

Asking these in the correct thread. Kind of hard to go through all 7 pages looking to see if it's been asked. Maybe a new forum for feature requests??

With the new ability to remap keys, how about an app that launches from the configuration to remap the keys by selecting the function then hitting the key? That way the user doesn't have to know what the key or gamepad button currently is. They can just hit the button they want to perform a given function.

Also, How about a new game sub list, at least for MAME, that when you do an update list, the old and new lists are compared and any new games are put in a New Games list for easy access to new games that are now available. Going through my list of 1800+ filtered games looking for new ones to try gets kind of difficult.

Thanks!

Attract Mode: Not only randomly pick mame games, but also play a few videos. I have a bunch of the video game commercials, and would like to see them pop up between every couple of games in attract mode. Maybe just a path setting? Ie: c:\vids\attract? And possibly a frequency setting? 4:1 games to videos, 5:1 etc.

a feature i would like to see is the ability to take the songs from cd and place them on the harddrive, and then add the album to the playlist. and all this with the joystick.

maybe with one button of rip cd or create album.

as it stands i have to open the cap, get keyboard access, bring back windows and the rip with media player.

Cant you just select config from GameEx program group on the start menu? There really is no need to edit ini files anymore.

Would it be possible to put a "jump to" drop-down list with numbers on the top of the screen where you edit emulators? Or otherwise some sort of shortcut to get to higher-numbered emulators?

I've had to revert to editing ini files. Although I prefer the config app, it just takes way too long to get to emulator 10 and above especially when you need to go back and forth to try and get something to work. It would also be great if the screens could be organized so the fields are in the same place for each emulator (more of a "fixed form" per emulator). That would make it easier to compare the values between emulators and ensure that you've filled things in right.

Not sure what to do about it but noted Rob.

Tom,

I just wanted to commend you on a great job you're doing with GameEx. I've looked at countless frontends the past couple months and kept finding myself coming right back to yours. That being said, I had a few questions regarding feature requests.

Any possibility of having the lcd/vfd output line: "Currently Selected item, or game that is running" also follow while in attract mode? I'm pretty surprised I use it as much as I do but I find myself looking to my vfd for the title when I don't recognize a game that's running. Currently it just displays the highlighted line of where it was left last before attract mode starts.

I know it's been asked several times before but I'd like to add another request for basic theme adjustments such as font color and alignment changes. I personally have a hell of a time matching that light violet/blue text color to a lot of backgrounds and while the text outline feature does change the color to white, it tends to make it harder to read. I've read your postings before regarding .png images and the inability to fully support alpha transparencies so I won't linger on that request. I'll work around it.

These are very minor issues overall but I thought it can't hurt to ask. Again, great work. :)

Ah, I never thought of that. I'll give it a go.

I have a couple more requests:

The ability to use the arrow keys to browse the image list without having to go

Tom,

Would it be possible to incorporate the control information from controls.dat into the LCD Smartie plugin? The goal would be to send control information (what each button does in the game etc.) to the LCD just before the game launches in MAME and leave it there for the duration of gameplay. This gives the players constant access to game controls while they are playing.

This would be the same general idea as what Silver did here with his LCDGen software:

http://www.silverfoxy.plus.com/LCDGen.html

Great job on the front end. I am incorporating it into my new cab.

I have over 900 NES games. I like the feature you added a while back where you can press a 'W' for example and the screen will go directly to the W's. My problem is that i am running my HTPC headless. It would be nice if pressing the 3 on the MCE remote would go the the D's and 4 would go to the G's, etc. Thanks for all your hard work.

It's me again, with some more crazy ideas.

I posted this in the 4.88 thread, but: for the convienience of some people, you could add a config option that lets you switch between the 4.87 style transition and the 4.88 style of transition, or turn off the transitions.

Could you add an option to disable the Play DVD function on the start page, and keep it in multimedia? (Or just add customizable menus :P ) COMPLETE

This popped into my head for no apparent reason: How about a feature that once you quit out of a game chosen by the random button, it takes you to it's info page so you can add it to your favorites list?

1). the opetunity to move M.a.m.e. into the "emulated games" section

2). in jukebox move all the mediaplayer options like "all pictures, example on playlists" that junk..or move it to a "option" section" to keep the Playlist section clean and "only" your own playlists appear there as it are now it looks really bad becouse my windows Xp are in danish so all that stuff there are in danish while the rest are in english.

3). we stay in the jukbox area :P have the choice to have the [Visualizations] shown where the album art is or another place just not fullscreen just in a size as screenshots are or smaller like to have it running while you navigate around game-ex ..

4). just something i thought about wouldnt it be nicer now after game-ex have evoled so much after it started the mame basic conf. should be implanted in the main config now to make it more complete COMPLETE

Hi Tom,

I discovered your frontend about 4 months ago and have been enjoying all of its' goodness ever since. I knew it would only be a matter of time before a nag screen was introduced (definitely worth a few bucks for this gem).

I have a suggestion, please ingore if someone has already suggested this but, can you add a random option for the intro video when you start gamex? I like alot of the old commercials plus some of the cool MAME movies out there and it would be neat if there was a different one each time I start Gamex.

Also, I have noticed when I playback different video files (MOV, ASF, AVI) sometimes they only playback in the bottom left corner of my screen, other times they are too large and I only get to view a portion of the full screen. Is this a codec issue?

Keep up the great work and I'll toss you some bucks as soon as I can.

Regards,

Dave

Hey Dave,

Ill certainly look at implementing random startup videos. It is in fact an issue I need to fix in gameex with the placement and sizing. Its nothing to do with the codecs. Its more of an issue with Microsoft Managed DirectX, or really lack of features available for Video Playback.
