Read the log file daphne creates from Daphneloader, then cut and paste the switches added to the "framefile" line into your daphne configuration for Thayers Quest.

Hi Tom, It seems that in this update, video preview is enabled by default. After running Advanced Configuration to disable it, I exit. GameEx will then start up all on it's own. Does this happen to anyone else, or is it just me? Just to let you know, I ran Advanced Configuration outside of GameEx, but it behaves like I ran it from within GameEx.

Just wondering if anyone uses cordless headphones out there? I had a cheap-o logitech set with an attached boom mike and the cord kept wrapping around something or other and finally fell apart. I'd like to get a set that is bluetooth so I can use them with my cell. Is there a sound card out there that will connect to something like this? Is this idea science fiction?

Tom, you rock. This is the reason I registered. Everyone, please send money to Tom. We need more people like him in this world. I doubt I'll be getting Vista for at least another year but it's nice to know that my favourite app of all-time will be well supported by then. Keep up the great work.

Just found this now, nebula's web page here Apparently this emulator supports cpu's that have more than one core, If your computer displays multiple cpu's in your task manager, it may improve performance dramatically! trying it out now

It seems that after .110 release of mame, this is what occurs. I have looked into the forums at mame32qa and others have suggested a fix by downloading the snaps and adding them manually. This sucks because I always liked making my own snaps. The snaps won't display correctly when they are within a sub folder that is the same name of the rom you just took a snap from. This thread discusses the implementation. Hmm, new "feature" ?? Dave

Here is a link to the drivers I use. The're modified but they work great, been using it for over a year now. I was only curious about the lastest because I am addicted to tweaking. Modded nvidia 6697 drivers hosted at guru3d Cheers, Dave

OK, After removing klite mega codec pack and installing vista, I was able to run 99% of all types of media files (INCLUDING .MOV and .MP4 WOOHOO!!). I ran into a bit of trouble with some .avi files I have, wmp11 would crash when I tried to play them. I reported the crash and microsoft informed me it had to do with xvid. So I went to xvid's home page, downloaded and installed the updated xvid component, and now EVERY video I have attempted now plays correctly, full screen! Tom, I only have one small issue now: I have GameEx set to play a random video when it starts, sometimes that video will playback in the top-left corner of my screen, displayed at 1/4 of it's size. I can play the same video using the "multimedia" category within GameEx with no trouble at all, full screen. Vista uses ffdshow amongst other codecs but since everything works correctly within the "multimedia" tab of GameEx, I don't think it's a codec tweak I need to do.

Hi everyone, I just finished downloading this codec pack. It appears that it will display all formats flawlessly within Media Player 11. I am about to try it for myself. If anyone else would like to test it, here is the link: Vista Codec pack posted at FileForum

Hi everyone, Since I use GameEx, I haven't updated my Nvidia drivers for years now. I still use version 6697 since the last I heard this version is the one that GameEx works properly with. I think I tried about six months ago to use the latest ones but when I run GameEx, it's performance slows to a crawl. Has anyone had luck using the latest Nvidia drivers and GameEx? Perhaps it's a combination of my video card and the latest drivers not working for what GameEx needs. I use a geforce ti 4200 Regards, David

I'll give you 3 bucks for it. Can you pay for shipping?

It came with hookups for a PC, an xbox and playstaion 2. follow the link in the last post to check it out.

I ordered this badboy and man-o-man is it sweet. It will work with any type of monitor and if you get the extra blaze stand, you can use it on a projector screen 60" and larger... Shipping was less than 7 days ordering through Paypal... Highly recommend this... LCD TopGun

That makes sense. Some .mov vids that I have will play fine, the one vid that I provided a link to seems rather old from what I remember yet still won't play back with WMP. Media Player Classic seems to play everything fine, only problem with that is GameEx doesn't use it. Thanks again for your thoughts.

Hi guys, I am getting so close to having everything play correctly. I use K-lite mega codec pack for my codecs, paying close attention that ffdshow is active within it. KMCP also included quicktime and real alternatives, seems to achieve the most types of video files to be played back within Windows Media Player 9 (and above). I'm only stuck on a few file types now, most annoying is .mov. Most videos with .mov work OK, it's just a couple that don't. Here's a link to one that has me baffled (please take the time to try it). http://www.arcadeathome.com/dl.phtml?misc/arcadehi.mov This will not play back within WMP 9+ but it will play ok when I use Internet Explorer. The other .mov files that give me issues are the ones that I take with my HP Digital camera. Same result: plays ok with IE but not WMP. Anyone else run into this problem?

My monitor is set to 75 Hz, When I removed the filters the problem went away though (for now). The list now updates like it should every time without stopping at 20%. Since it finishes the update correctly, I haven't seen a flickering 'please wait' graphic. Thanks again for everyone's suggestions.

It's true, I use filters. Mostly for clones, bracketed text and versions. Thanks for the reply, I'll try it and let you know.

Hi everyone, Has anyone else had trouble updating your game list in MAME and other emulators? Sometimes in my mame list, when I click "update list" it gets to about 20% then stops and puts me back at the list of games. When this happens, I can see the "please wait" graphic flickering in the background. Also the list will then only go up to the "b" 's. This also occurs with other emulated games, mostly Nintendo 64, perhaps all of them. The only way I can get that graphic to stop flickering is to either run a game, then quit back to gameex, or to exit game ex and run it again. Could this be from a corrupted list? If so, is there any file within gameex I could delete? Perhaps my file locations to mameinfo.dat, history.dat, mame32.exe, etc... need to be verified? I have checked that one about 10 times already so I don;t think so... Other times when I click 'update list' , it will update successfully, without making any corrections to the configuration.

I have this issue as well with an nvidia card (seperate from gameex). Video will only display on the screen that is set as the PRIMARY display. So everytime I want to go and sit down in front of my TV, I need to set it as the primary display. I recall that ATI cards have a setting that allows you to view video on both displays at the same time, no matter which is set as the primary display. I would review your video setting until you discover this, once successful at displaying video on both, go back and see if gameex will display correctly.

I suppose it all depends on what you use a computer for whether IE7 is a good thing or bad. When I first installed ie7, every video clip I ran from a web page would crash it (would then direct me to the online crash analysis web page with all the relevent problems listed to fix it, a huge list of NOTHING!). A few days ago, 7 critical updates were posted and since then it seems to be running just fine. MS seems to be working on easier ways to hide the file menu bar from most of their apps, sucks that I can't place it above the address bar like I'm used to. I especially like the google search window always available.

Completed Feature Requests (Moved)
Dav1d replied to jr9770's topic in FAQs, Guides, & Other Useful Information
Hi Tom, I discovered your frontend about 4 months ago and have been enjoying all of its' goodness ever since. I knew it would only be a matter of time before a nag screen was introduced (definitely worth a few bucks for this gem). I have a suggestion, please ingore if someone has already suggested this but, can you add a random option for the intro video when you start gamex? I like alot of the old commercials plus some of the cool MAME movies out there and it would be neat if there was a different one each time I start Gamex. Also, I have noticed when I playback different video files (MOV, ASF, AVI) sometimes they only playback in the bottom left corner of my screen, other times they are too large and I only get to view a portion of the full screen. Is this a codec issue? Keep up the great work and I'll toss you some bucks as soon as I can. Regards, Dave
