Well, I just went to windows update as I know there about thirty million new security patches out, and its telling me IE7 is a high priority update. What's that about!? Way to roll out an app M$. Oh and if you've got a dodgy version of XP you can't download it, but if your legit and not too savvy your'll notice you have it now.

Sorry but that just takes the piss to me, and is abuse of the update system. Any links anywhere to sites also thinking this is a bit off?

I tried it on a new pc I setup for someone, seemed quite unstable to me, got an error and it crashed everytime I typed in yahoo.com into the address bar, unless I opened a new tab

Tell me about it! I do software support for an Automotive company. One of our Partner company's software WILL NOT work with IE7 as of yet.....GUESS what call I got first thing this morning!

I thought it was bad enough when customer were calling in with problems after installing the Beta version....gotta love it.

I'm afraid to even get in on this. I just went back to Firefox instead. Microsoft sucks and have sucked for a long time. Xbox and Zune can eat it too. Vista, you are also welcome to eat it. My treat. :P

Who the hell puts the File menu under the URL bar? Drunk people That's who.

I'm with Adultery.. just upgraded to Firefox 2.0 last week. Haven't had any problems yet. My dad in his room across the hall was upgrading to IE 7 and had a hell of a time just trying to get it to download. He found a way to "cheat the system" but he said it's severely unstable and always locking up on him. I'm perfectly happy with Firefox. The only problem with FF is some java things don't work exactly right. In those cases, its usually something I don't desperately need to see/use anyway.

M$ should definately take a look at themselves. They are abusing their auto updating system big time.

lol I have to agree with you there. The only people who think they can make and break standards.

We installed it on our work computer for the tabbed browsing(We have tons of windows open and the company's web based software won't work in Firefox). We ran into numerous issue with compatibility. For example we use parature a ticket system, and half of it would not function. IE is still crap imo

I actually use a program called Deepnet Explorer, it's kinda like taking FireFox and IE and merging the two together....except it uses the IE engine instead of Mozilla which eliminates 99% of the issues of using non IE based browsers...

Been using it for about a year now and it has quite handy features that IE didn't have at the time...but FireFox did.

I was having problems with IE 6 so I downloaded IE 7. My only real complaint was the phishing filter really took way too long to let pages load (like...never). Since I turned the phishing filter off it seems to run at least as well as IE 6 did before I had problems with it. Firefox is great until you go to a site (like windows update) that needs IE.

True. That's why I have both installed but only use IE for that purpose. Other than that it's junk.

As a Network Admin in real life...don't even get me started with M$..the main source of grief for me in life...argh..

Ah who cares. If you know enough to complain about IE then you probably don't use it much anyways. With Safari, Firefox, Mozilla, Opera, and others out there, I can go months without IE.

Well put..at least in private life we have choices... :)

I wonder how M$ came up with a concept like 'tabbed browsing'... <_<

Either way, the new IE7 is better at CSS code than IE6 (I'm a web-developer by day), but I HATE HATE HATE the new interface. I can't find crap!!

And good 'ol M$: Once you install something 'new and better' you can't 'roll it back' to the old.

Well in MS defense, most of their hotfixes and updates are uninstallable from Add/Remove, but IE is embedded in the OS quite deeply--like one of those buggers from Aliens--if you rip it out the whole thing could die. Even if they gave the option it would be oh so messy. Being the integral part of Windows Update, I'd not want it screwed up.

Ever seen THIS excellent extension for the Firefox? OK, it uses the IE engine within Firefox, but you don't even have to leave Firefox for those crappy "IE optimized" pages. I never had any issues with my Firefox, for me it's the one and only!

Ie7 definitely IS unstable and I have refused it ever since it came out 6 is doing nicely. And if ive need, firefox it is hehe. Just a matter of time before its a "forced" update as well unfortunately. Same as SP2 was.

I've yet to run into any problems with IE that wasn't my fault. What exactly are the main problems plaguing IE? The only ones I hear about are security fixes for this and that?

Posted

I suppose it all depends on what you use a computer for whether IE7 is a good thing or bad. When I first installed ie7, every video clip I ran from a web page would crash it (would then direct me to the online crash analysis web page with all the relevent problems listed to fix it, a huge list of NOTHING!). A few days ago, 7 critical updates were posted and since then it seems to be running just fine.

MS seems to be working on easier ways to hide the file menu bar from most of their apps, sucks that I can't place it above the address bar like I'm used to.

I especially like the google search window always available.

OK, I take this back, I gave in and installed it as I don't want an unsecure system going forward.

It's actually pretty good, and you can enable and put the menus back, and you can still open a page in a new window.

I've had no hard errors as of yet, although keep moving the mouse to the wrong place to click things, but I just need to get used to it.

I admit when I am wrong :)

The 1st thing I did when I installed it was to put the toolbar back on.

IE7 is nice, nothing that hasn't been done before. But it is cool to finally get tabbed browsing, something I'm very fond of. I do notice it's a little slower at starting up, but the tabbed browsing makes up for it.
