I'm a first timer here and am a little stumped. Having an old EM wasn't enough.  I purchased a virtual pinball  from the original owner, who aquired it from a retailer. After more hours than I can count on youtube and google, I still cannot get to the desktop. Pressing  esc gives a blank screen for a minute, then the front end reboots. Pressing QQ brings up little box, but still can't get to desktop. I was hoping to make a backup and playing with table lighting if it will let me. Any suggestions?

Thanks Scutters, got a little closer with ctrl+alt+del.  I can't believe I didn't try that...I'm reasonably  computer savvy. Now it came up change user. I pressed ok. Admin came up, but don't know the password. The machine was bought from Playmoregames.ca. Alberta Canada. It is running Windows 7 ultimate.

To be honest depending on the amount of tables you have installed Id be tempted to just do a complete wipe and do a fresh install of windows, vpx and pinballx to make sure all the old crap is gone, and set it exactly as you want it, but thats just me,

Can you open Task Manager to close applications from the ctrl alt delete screen?.   Email playmoregames anyway and request the password maybe with a picture as proof of ownership, can't see any reason they wouldn't give it to you if the original owner doesn't know it.

A fresh win10 install may be better as @simbamame suggests, but i guess that depends how dirty you want to get your hands..
