Hello everyone! Maybe I have a chance playing videos with GameEx, or at least I would be able to try. Because I've tried everything using the internal player, now I'm trying to use an external player and see what happens. But I have problems sending the command line to the player (Media Player Classic Home Cinema). Ok, here is a screenshot of the command lines available: If I use the Windows command line I am able to launch a video, but if I try to "translate" this command line for GameEx, the player starts but says "File not found". For example: "C:\Programs\K-Lite Codec Pack\Media Player Classic\mpc-hc.exe" "C:\Documents and Settings\AlphaUMi\Documents\Video\Mac vs PC.flv" /fullscreen /play This command line works in Windows, the player starts and runs the video in fullscreen. But if I add the following command line to GameEx.ini: CMD="C:\Programs\K-Lite Codec Pack\Media Player Classic\mpc-hc.exe" "[ROMPATH\]\[ROMFILE]" /fullscreen /play or even CMD="C:\Programs\K-Lite Codec Pack\Media Player Classic\mpc-hc.exe" "[ROMPATH\]"\"[ROMFILE]" /fullscreen /play the player starts in fullscreen but the video doesn't. The player says "File not found". There must be a problem with [ROMPATH] and [ROMFILE] variables... please, any ideas? What am I doing wrong?

VPinball stands for Visual Pinball, I suppose?
-
Thank you Adultery, but nevermind. I managed to load a table with Tempest Loader, but I have a GameEx crash when exiting. In the end I decided to erase pinball games from my setup. I'm not a great fan of this kind of games, after all. Cheers, Alpha.

Hello! Please, I would like to have some advise on how to use the VPinball_Loader in GameEx\LOADERS. If I understood correctly, the loader hides the window while the table is loading. I would like to have my tables loading that way instead of having that window. Currently Visual Pinball V9 runs well on my system, but I configured it independently of any loader. I found this thread but it left me a bit unsecure and confused. What are VPinball_Loader and vpauto? These are included in GameEx installation. Are these files sufficient or do I need something else? How can I setup Visual Pinball in GameEx so that it starts via loader? Here is my emulator config for Visual Pinball: Thanks in advance!

all I know is when I tried to name them folder.jpg it kept saying there was already a file named folder: This is because Folder.jpg are system files and are hidden by default. When you put a Folder.jpg in your album folder, this is the file used to preview that folder. Try to select Visualize --> Preview in Explorer and you'll see your folders filled with the album image. Very useful. When you scan your library with WMP, it set those files (if found) to system files, and create a second file (smaller) called AlbumArtSmall.jpg., so they get hidden by default after a scan with WMP. If you unblock the option to hide system files you should be able to see them. Album.jpg does not work the same way, actually it does nothing. It's just a file putted there. Neither Windows Explorer nor GameEx see it. So I hope for a fix that make GameEx directly able to read the album folder for Folder.jpg if the file isn't found on the server.

Wait for Mods or more experienced user, but I don't think you can do what you want. In the "standard emulator module", as you say, GameEx reads the name of the rom and displays it "as is". You could rename all your roms with extensive and descriptive names, but this way MAME would not recognise them at all, failing to load the roms, because MAME roms must be named that way in order to work. A solution can be to use a map file, a file that GameEx uses to display the name correctly. These files are located in GameEx\MAP FILES directory. Basically, it's a text file with .map extension that is structured as follows: kof.zip|King of Fighters mslug.zip|Metal Slug But do you imagine the effort necessary to write such a file with all MAME roms? I don't know if there is a method to automate the process... Alpha.

LOL! You guys are very funny, really!!! But in fact I use both of your themes. I have 3 favourites: Black Glass (it's a v2 theme but I love the dark and hi-tech style), Enter the Dragon and BlueBox V2. Usually I rotate between them from time to time. So both of you can be satisfied for your work and for sharing it. I appreciate both themes very much!!! And I can't wait to see your next work! Oh, and thanks for the info about theme cleaning! @ Krak: your theme is so promising, it will further improve the BlueBox v2. Keep up your work, and my compliments! Cheers, Alpha

I have a Folder.jpg in every artist and album folder of my music library, but GE doesn't visualize them all, Windows and WMP do. I think it can be due to some sort of algorithm the jpg uses (not all the jpgs are the same). I had a similar issue in the past embedding the album image in the mp3s. Do you say that renaming Folder.jpg in Album.jpg resolves the issue, so that GE read them all?
-
Well... I'm almost sure (and I say almost) that the album pictures are downloaded directly from the internet. That's why sometimes they don't correspond to the ones I have in my folders and why sometimes I don't get any image even if I have one in my folder that WMP and other programs can see.... Now adjusting this thing, I'm going to create image files for GameEx, thanks again Noddy for letting me know how to look for files.... EDIT: It doesn't work following the scheme Band_My Album Name (Band). Something is wrong here. Additionally, checking the files in MEDIA\Albums proves that they aren't the same files. WMP resizes Folder.jpg to 200x200 when you scan your catalog. The images in the Album folder are often greater (which is better, obviously). I would let this discussion prosecute before posting in the Request thread, suggesting the following: 1) Make GameEx check if you have a Folder.jpg in your folder (indeed!) and, if present, download it from the server anyway (it could be a better image) 2) Make GameEx check if you have a Folder.jpg in your folder and, if present in your folder but not in the server, use the one in your folder. I hope I've been clear.

Good to know! Thank you Draco!

Ok, but you improved the theme a lot, including all the functionality a v4 theme can give you. Thank you Adultery from me too, I'm currently using your theme with full satisfaction. One question: generally speaking, can PSD files be safely removed if you don't mind to modify the theme? Which other kind of files can be removed so that your theme folder is "clean" (always if you don't mind to change the graphics)?
-
Thank you for your answer Noddy. +1 for all your requests from me too, I completely agree with you.
-
Interesting question, although I have no idea of a possible answer. Are you thinking: "why do you bother me writing here", don't you? . Well, I would add a little question related to this: Where GameEx takes the album pictures from, exactly? From the ID tag, or from the Folder.jpg, if present?

Due to the recent changes in GameEx, it was time to update the Italian language file. Apart from a couple of changes that improve clarity when browsing GameEx, finally I could add accents when needed, instead of using the apostrophe ( ' ) as a workaround. For example: now we have " Pubblicità " and not " Pubblicita' ", which is, grammatically speaking, incorrect, although perfectly understandable. By the way, pubblicità means adverts... Please Tom, use this file for future versions... Cheers, Alpha. Italian.zip

Thanks Tom! This update is very appreciated. By the way, can you tell me which lines have been added so that I can check and in case update? Usually new lines are added at the beginning of the file, but this time I didn't find anything new... P.S.: I'm going to start the translation\correction of the Setup Wizard, too... Cheers, Alpha.

Holy crap! I think I drank too much wine yesterday. Today I stood up and thought about WMP, indeed. I remembered I moved my music library and forgot about it. Excuse me Adultery, this have been a false alarm. I'll mark as [RESOLVED]. Cheers, Alpha.

Simply put, I can't hear any sound when in Jukebox mode. Radio, Emulators Music Files, and what else sounds good, and I mean in the same GameEx session. Please, what has gone wrong? log.txt

Yes, this would be the simplest way to accomplish the task...

Feature & Enhancement Requests

Forget request #1. Thank you hansolo for letting me know. I missed that option! -
I'm going to put it in the right thread...

Yes, I had a similar problem with certain themes that use a "custom scroller", although I have no idea of what a custom croller is. Basically, after exiting a MAME game, I got stucked in the menu, 'cause my joypad stopped working. This happened only with MAME games, other emulators were not affected. I spent a lot of time yesterday with Draco and Adultery gently assisting me, and finally Tom like a flesh released a super-quick update that solved the problem (Thanks again, Tom!). You should definitely update and let us know what the update does for you. EDIT: I just read that it didn't work for you. I'm stumbled here. Evidently it's a different problem than mine... Not sure what I can suggest you...

Feature & Enhancement Requests
AlphaUMi replied to Tom Speirs's topic in FAQs, Guides, & Other Useful Information
Recently I thought about three new simple features that would made us even happier navigating GameEx. 1- Tell me if I'm wrong, but we don't have the ability to scroll the lists one page at a time using the joypad. I mean the same functionality you have in GameLauncher, or in any word processor using the PageUp and PageDown keys. I know I can use the keyboard to jump directly to a certain letter or file, but using the joypad would be better... When you have to scroll through a list of 900, 1000 or even more roms, the process could be very slow, mostly if you are using GameEx with a cab and don't have the keyboard at hand. We should be able, for example, to set a certain joypad button in Setup Wizard, and when in a list, we could press and hold that button and, with the up and down directional key, jump through the list one page at a time. Very useful in my opinion. In short: joybad button + up or down: scroll list one page at a time. 2- Ability to save the search we made for future reference. GameEx could keep track automatically of our searches and save them in case we need to consult the results again. For example, put the case I search for Mario Bros Games, I get a long list of games. A can't remember all of them. Consulting the search entries without repeating the search would be useful. Obviously, we should be able to delete the entries we don't wont anymore (maybe using the CANC button, like in the rom list?). 3- Ability to customize the theme at 100%, including the AutoUpdate1.png and the Bezels used in game, accordingly with the theme's style. This way, when we change a theme we have pictures that match with the theme, varying according to the theme's style. In short, my opinion is to bundle AutoUpdate1.png in the theme package, and make GameEx able to read the \THEMES\YourTheme\Autoupdate1.png, according to our current theme, instead of having only one update screen. And as Adultery suggested in another thread, Bezels should be there, too. What do you thing about these suggestions guys? -
Update to version 12.03. It fixes exactly this kind of problem.

Thanks! Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks Thank! I was one of the few who had the issue and you released a fixed version immediately! Thank you Tom!
