  1. Thaks for the responses. @ tempest I will have a look at your post. I may have to modify my machine because coin return on my cab at the moment is escape(Quit back to GameEx). J P.S. Just checked it out. You have done almost exactly the same as i did. I too stuck a microswitch behind my door. But mine is used differently. May have to change it now though.
  2. Hi All, The P.C. in my mame cab is currently still outside the unit because I am not sure about how to move the power button on the case. Has anyone done this? Or does anyone know of any good onine guides. Also do I need a special type of button to replace it with or is it possible to connect it to a standard arcade pushbutton? Thanks in advance. J.

    Naomi Support

I have a Naomi 2 in my cabinet. I won it on ebay for £200 (Cabinet is a 40" screen Sit-down type) last year. I have been slowly adding MAME to it aswell(+Dreamcast). DJ Infinity is right some of the carts and GD's arent too badly priced. I have Virtua Fighter 4 in mine atm and I think I only paid £50 for it. Thats around the same price as an Xbox 360 game. I will try and post some photos today. (having problems getting my phone to connect to P.C.) J.
  4. Thanks for the help again Headkaze. Do you have any ideas Tom?
  5. Hi All, I am trying to get headkaze's custom backgrounds to display in GamEx. I have moved them to my media file and picked each one in the emulator config but when I launch Gameex they dont show up. Is there another display option that needs to be changed? Do I need to be using a certain theme? (I am currently using Dark Gloss) Thanks. J.
  6. Thanks for this Headkaze. These will look great in my cab.
  7. I have found a workaround for this. GameEx allows you to set the background as blue in the config. Do this then remove all the blue background .pngs. Then remove the word' foreground' from all the them .pngs . Then they are displayed as backgrounds behind the snaps. J.
  8. I am unable to post a log at the moment (The arcade p.c. isnt online a.t.m.). I have done a fresh install of GameEx in a different part of the P.C. and now the images are displayed. I do have another problem though. The snaps and videos are showing underneath the themes. Is this normal behaviour or do I need to change another option. Thanks J.
  9. I am still having problems getting this one to display. All of the emulators I have renamed now show properly in the Theme Editor. But still nothing when GameEx is launched. The theme is selected and the custom background option is blank. I am at a loss as to why this isnt working. Does it matter if I have some of the GameEx buttons are switched off. e.g. I dont have the media bar at the top of the screen displayed. I also dont have the home and exit buttons displayed either. Could this be stopping it from working. Any ideas? J. P.S. Is there an option to switch off the 'change view, back, home and exit' tabs that appear on this new theme. I wish to keep all the other info like manufacturer, year e.t.c.
  10. Got this one fixed. I didn't realise that the 'excluded roms' option didnt affect the Mame Originals list. I have changed the list to 'all mame Games' and they are all showing. J.
  11. Try re-inputting the controls in mame for player 3 and 4 (Press tab ingame). Maybe an update did something to your control file. It maybe that the slikstik setting file got corrupt. I know that fresh installs of mame only come with the standard keyboard controls now (it used to have slikstik, x-arcade e.t.c). Hope that helps. J.
  12. O.K. I have started renaming. Now they images show up correctly in Theme editor but not in Gameex. Am I missing some other config. I am using the latest version of GameEx also.
  13. O.K. I will do some renaming because I have changed the names. Which image do I then point it at foreground or background? Do I have the right idea here: For example I have changed Atari 2600 to read 2600 Games, So the files should read . Theme_Background_2600 Games.png Theme_Background_2600 Games_Foreground.png Then when they are renamed go into the config wizard and point each emulator at one of the images. Is that what you mean?
  14. I have opened it in theme editor. It dosent show any of the emulator backgrounds though just a grey checker board background? I am using theme editor 2.1.
  15. Hi HeadKaze, Could you tell me what I am doing wrong. This is the first time I have tried a V4 theme and I dont seem to be having much luck. I have selected this theme in the theme picker. I have also added the name of each emulator foreground to each of my emulatator configs in the custom background line but I only get a blue screen background when I select an emulator to view. Have I missed a step anywhere. Thanks J.
  16. I think I have found a bug in one of the mame rom filter options. It is the 'Dont exclude these roms' filter. I use the mame originals setting and once GameEx is set there are about 2089 games listed. I have gone through them and noticed a few missing so I have added them to the above option. I then go back into GamEx and do an Update list. Once it is finished all the roms I have added to the filter are showing. However if I go back to the main menu and then back to the mame original list the figure is back to how it was before I updated it. It also does the same if after doing an update list I load a game and go back. again the extra games vanish. Any ideas. Has this happened to anyone else or has something changed in GameEx and I have it setup incorrectly. Cheers J.
  17. O.K. I worked out what is wrong with Kega Fusion. Almost all of the possible video options have vanished? There are no scanline options, 2 of the TV mode settings are gone aswell as the fixed aspect and filtered options. Does anyone know what would cause this to happen. My desktop P.C. and my arcade P.C. both have ATI cards with the latest drivers. The desktop P.C. shows all of the options. I am clueless as to what has caused this Any suggestions? J. EDIT: Fixed. I had somehow enabled the following 2 options in the .ini file. This is what caused all of the problems. ForceCompatibleGFX=1 ForceFullScreen32=1 I zeroed both of them and now everything is running sweet.
  18. I cant do this either. The P.C.. in the cabinet isnt connected to the internet. Windows just has it listed as default monitor and the res options are greyed out. I dont know if a windows update would help fix it or not, but I think I have found a solution to most of the problems. I have noticed that Zsnes works fine with triple buffering instead of vsync (No control delay of screen tearing). BGB works well on it aswell instead of visualboyadvance (Gameboy emulation). I will carry on using fusion for the sega machines ( I dont think Meka and Gens are good enough replacements ). Does anyone know if it is possible to have triple buffering switched on with fusion, if so this should solve the last of my problems. Thanks again for your help. J.
  19. It is currently set to 640x480. I dont know of any safe way to test to see if it can handle any other res. The reason it is running at this settting is because the Naomi 2 is still inside it (Hi-res Naomi settings are 640x480). I also have a dreamcast plugged in too. Again this runs at the same res. So I did the same for the P.C. It was working. But I seem to of changed a setting in the P.C. and now emulators running with vsync seem to have this problem. The only other thing I can think of is maybe it is the IPAC. But then again MAME works beautifully with it. I am at a loss as to why it is happening.
  20. Hi All, I am currently running GameEx in an arcade cabinet. The monitor (as far as I can tell) can only display 640x480. The problem I am getting is that certain emulators i.e. fusion, visualboyadvance and zsnes have stopped working properly with vsync on. They launch fine but there seems to be a delay with the controls. It is like the controls are being stored up and run through the emulator a few seconds after I press the buttons. Does anyone know what it is I have done to change this because they were working before. Secondly does anyone know how to fix it ( without vsync i am getting some screen tearing). Also is there a program out there that can test the resolutions that a monitor can run at. I can find no information about mine at all. Apart from that I think it was made in Italy. I will try and post a few pics later. Even though it isnt 100% yet I am still very pleased with the results so far. Any help would be greatly apprieciated J.
  21. @ beaps I think this theme is going to be 640x480. I am in the same boat as you. My cab will only display 640x480 so I am really looking forward to this one. J.
  22. I am so looking forward to this. My cab is almost finished and a new theme would be ace. Because of the monitor in my cab I can only use 640x480 so my options are limited. This is perfect. Unless someone has already sugessted this could you include the Super Gameboy as an added console. I already have this setup in my current GameEx config. If any of you are using the No-intro gameboy roms then look for all the ones that have after there name. These are all Super Gameboy compatible. You can then setup visual boy advance to display borders on all games that feature them. I realise this is only a small amount of games (i have around 70 that use it). But it is still cool none the less. Keep up the good work and hope to see this soon. J.

    Mame issues

Do you know if there is an option to display all games vertically on a horizontal screen like mame32 can. The autoror and rol options do rotate the screen but for example 19xx currently displays with the top of the screen to the right so with autoror on the picture then becomes upside-down. I am sure I am missing something really obvious here I just cant see what it is in the mame.ini. Thanks again J. P.S. I am using a compiled version of mame. Is it possible that I screwed something up when compiling? P.P.S. Where does the hiscore.dat need to be placed with a compiled version of mame? It dosent seem to be working for me either.

    Mame issues

Thanks for the mame.ini advice. I am a bit of a noob when it comes to using vanilla mame having used mame32 for so long. I have got mame running in Gameex now but i have encountered another problem. All the vertical games are running sideways. Does anyone know which option in the mame.ini I need to change. I have a version of mame32 running on the cab aswell and it plays all the vertical games properly rotated for a horizontal monitor. I know i am missing something simple I just cant see what it is. Any help would be greatly apprieciated. Thanks J.
