  1. Headkaze, and anyone else who has read my previous topics, will be well aare that I have been having a heck of a time with ffdshow. Recently loading preview movies crashed the system. Now they play, but they are upside down. I am tempted to try installing divx, although the last time i did that caused gameex to crash when trying to play the preview movies. It plays MPGs fine, it's just the AVI's that are mirrored. Got any suggestions for this one Headkaze? (or anyone else)

    GameEX and ArcadeVGA

I told gameex to stop changing the resolution and that seemed to fix it. Now Im just going through and testing different emulators to make sur ethey support proper resolution. Thanks for the quick response Tom. -Anthony
  3. I finally got my cab totally built and all the parts installed ! After some troubleshooting I finally got my 29" wells gardenr to display properly with ultimarcs ArcadeVGA card. I can run Mame32 gui and the such just fine. When I start gameex however, i loose my vertical hold immediatly (starts during the gameex nag screen). I have tried turning on "yes" under the arcadevga mode in the configuration, and that ddin't seem to change anything. Any suggestions? I NEEEEED my amazing Gameex frontend to work, lol.

    mekaw fullscreen?

is there a comnand prompt option to launch mekaw with fullscreen? I have the option set to launch full screen upon loading a rom - which works fine loading a rom from inside the emulator, but when loading a rom from the command line it still goes to a window.
  5. Hey guys, I've had this problem in teh past where Gameex displays the consols mpegs just fine, and even shows the backgrounds for each emulator just fine. However, when i move over a game which has it's own preview it will not show both movies at the same time, and instead drops to the desktop. On my other computer this was fixed by a suggestion from heakraze to install ffdshow. To give some background on this one: FFDshow had already been installed. When i started gameex on this computer movies would show, but typically the beggining was garbled and more importantly the picture was upside down.. I installed the newest divx codec to try and fix this. This now caused it to boot me to the desktop. I reinstalled ffdshow. This didnt fix anything, and it still boots me to the desktop. What confuses me is the fact that at one point it DID show the previes, but they were upside down.
  6. Delete your config file, or better yet, just delete the whole folder (save your bios folder) and reinstall. It fixed it for me.
  7. Recently I was having a lot of trouble with Mess running my Atari 7800 roms. It was telling me I had a bad bios. I found a Mess bios pack online, which solved this for me nicely. Unfortunately, now when i try to start any 7800 game, it ALWAYS tries to play barn shooter. Doesnt matter what i click on, thats the rom that loads up. has anyone ran into anything like this before? It doesnt do this to me with the other systems (2600, 5200, etc).

    Updating GameEx

That happens to you? When I reintall the porgram it just adapts all my old config files.. how strange.
  9. Personally, I dislike it. I only use gamex for games. As a MAME cabinet I have no use for internet and multimedia. As it stands I already have to go in and siable all the auxillary stuff to make my main menu a bit cleaner and more game oriented. I do like the idea of a config page however, especially if it is possible to hide it and access it through a hidden key combination or something. Since your idea would obviously benefit certain users, maybe it could be implemented as an option. ie) you can choose whether or not you want a game-oriented gameex or the "ful on" gameex.

    Updating GameEx

just install the new gamex, it will overwrite the old one and keep all the configuration files you previously had. no need to uninstall.
  11. If you update your mom you'll have to update your roms as well. Several roms have their name slightly changed or size changed with every update. At mame's website you can find a listing of the changes within each version, including new games.
  12. Well, even if I get virtual jaguar up and running, I still have to deal with the audio stuttering. ya, I've tried this. The emulator will load the atari screen, but it just hangs there. Under uadit, in MESS, it tells me there is a CRC check error. I've had the same error on 4 different bios's downloaded from 4 seperate websites.
  13. ok, so I've tried virtual jaguar and I'm not sure whats goin on. When I load it up if I click video or audio options, nothing happens I figured out I had to load a rom then hit the reset key - is there a command line way to boot directly to the game? Also, once I get a game going to audio stutters horribly - without access to the audio options, is there any fix there? Is it true that the newer versions of Project Tempest don't allow command line exeuction? That would be a real shame since it runs the roms so clean. No audio stutter or anything. Plus it's a LOT easier to set up the controls for that one.
  14. I will definatly try Virtual Jaguar. I managed to get my 2600 and 5200 roms going, but Mess is telling me that my 7800 bios is failing it's crc check. I have downloaded the bios from several different sites, which makes me think the newest build could possibly be checking the bios rom imporperly. Any experience with that?
  15. I found this: http://www.maximusarcade.com/max.htm#commandline Which details command line options for a few emulators. I've noticed most emulators don't seem to include any documentation on their command line parameters, and the respectiv websites of those emulators rarely shed any more light on the subject. Anyone aware of resources for this stuff?
  16. no luck. I think thats what i originally had, and I had only switched it to try a way i saw in a different config.txt.
  17. Alright, so I've been messing with this for hours... I got Mess to run with my 2600 roms, no problem, using the cofig.txt file in the config forum. I followed the exact same instructions for the 8800 and 5200, but these always kick back to GameEx, and nothing ever starts. I ran it in debug mode and the command line looks fine. I can also run the roms from the Mess gui alright. So I know the bios files and such are all there. Currently my 5200 command line is: mess.exe a5200 -cart [rompath]\[romfile] The jaguar is doing the same thing as well.
  18. fixed it right up - thank you again headkaze
  19. thats a GREAT site man - thank you so much
  20. edit: I think I've figured out that [b*] - is a bad dump [o*] - is an overdump. That makes both of these types of files useless, doesnt it? Does anyone have a link to the other codes?
  21. Hey guys. I'm using the goodset file naming system, which with a complete romset leads to many duplicates of the same game (f1, f2, f3, f4, u, j, e, jue, !, hack, prototype, b1, b2, b3, etc etc etc) It's really drags my game lists down and makes them look cluttered and unorganized (not to mention it takes a lot longer to load). Is there an option only to display the parent/most recetn rom, such as the option under the mame preferences? If not, can someone suggest a method which will only get rid of the useless ones? I tried first moving all the (J) games to a japanese game directory since I don't plan on playing those, and then did the same thing with (E)'s. Next I systematically deleted (I have them all backed up elsewhere) all the [f1]s, [f2]s, etc. Hoping that by doing this it would only leave the main (U) version. I'm not sure that it worked. After all the pruning I noticed a lot of games were missing - ie: there was no version of Mortal Kombat 2 at all anymoreon my list. This forum has been extremely helpful so far, and I really appreciate everyones time (especially Tom and Headkaze). Hopefully I'll learn enough of this to actually answers someone's questions in time.
  22. Question: is it possible to run a video in the background of a menu as well as have avi's instead of snaps for individual games? If I remember correctly, I was able to do it last night just fine with my SNES console background and AVI previews running simultaenously. Today I finished downloading my NES AVI's previews, copied them over, pointed the config snaps to the new video folder and booted up GameEx. When I go to NES I see the movie instead of the NES logo like it should. And when I click it it takes me to my NES menu, and plays the mpg in the background just like it should. As soon as I scroll to a game with an AVI preview it kicks me to the desktop, although I can hear the avi sounds playing. If i try to return to gameEx it boots me back to teh desktop again and I have to kill the process. The same is happening for my SNES preview files now as well - and I know for a fact they were running last night. I am currently running GameEx 6..04 according to the download link on the main page. Any suggestions or fixes? edit: Ok, I know I can run 2 videos at once since I can see the tron background running behind my MAME intro vids. The questions now is why the NES and SNES vids are kicking me out of GameEx.
  23. The screen shot archive is GREAT! thank you sooo much.
  24. Best i can see, I use the external apps dialog in the configuration to set-up any external apps, including other emulators. Lets use Gens as an example. I pointed it to the proper directory, pointed it to the executable file. I staretd GameEx, I saw it on the menu, and it even loaded the system logo next to it (not the same one I had placed in the directory - which is another mystery to figure out, but it did show a logo none the less). When I clicked on the new Gens button the pc screen went black, and nothing happened. A few escape key attempts and I managed to get back to the GameEx loader. 2 things strike me as odd. A) it locked up/ didnt run. Gens has no game select menu built into it. So how do I go about using all these nifty snaps for sega, snes, and nes games I've downloaded. Or eevn the avi previews I've downloaded? Is there a way to get GameEx to load rom lists for these other emulators in the same manner it loads them for mame (with alphabetical listing which includes snaps/avi's and such?) Also - if there is any documentation that answers these questions I woul love to be pointed towards it. I hate to ask something like this only to find out I could have read how to do it elsewhere. Thank you in advance to anyone who helps. and then I hit the "next page" button on the main page of the configuration utility only to find the answer to all these questions... lol, sorry. Anyone mind reccomending a place to go to get SNES box art scans and scans for other games? thanks
  25. Im sure this has a quick and simple answer, I just havent been able to figure it out yet. I downloaded the Tron and Soul Calibur themes, and I noticed the primary size is due to each have 2 movie files included. I have applied both of these skins and have yet to see either of those movie files play at any time. What exactly are they for, and what exactly activates them? Thanks !
