  1. I am shifting my emulator files around (all created like 2 years ago). i am able to xport them just fine, although any time I click "import" the following happens: 1: I am asked if i am sure I want to overwrite this entry I click yes 2: Unhandled exception has occured in your application. error message: Could not find the file 'e:\program files\gameex\config\emulators\import-export\.ini' I checked the directory and it's full of ini files. I am not able to make a '.ini' file either (with no name). the exception text is as follows: ************** Exception Text ************** System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not find file 'E:\Program Files\GameEx\CONFIG\EMULATORS\IMPORT-EXPORT\.ini'. 2. I appreciate all the info guys - I went ahead and just converted my video files to mpeg2 format. I wanted to keep the audio on them, so that seemed like the way to go.
  3. Is there a how-to page anywhere on how to do this? I couldn't find any 'instructions' on the no-intro page. When I loaded the dat and scanend my goodmerge directory it's telling me I have no valid sets..... so I'm obviously doing something wrong. edit: I just tried doing a blind rebuild, and it seems to be working fine. I was making it harder then it was by scanning in the first place.
  4. I'll have to look into it. A CMP scan typically just tells me what is missing or what is un-needed, and doesnt actually copy anything anywhere. Where-as a rebuild typically takes what you have and cpies what it needs to match the dat. Hence my question. Maybe there is another rom manager that works differently, but CMP is the only one I've had any experience with.
  5. Thanks Tom, I'll do that.
  6. Thanks for the suggestion. Do I need to rebuild, or does a scan with the fix option turned on (in clrmamepro) do it?
  7. I decided to switch over to nestopia after having too many problems with NNNester. So far I'm really happy with it, except for one simple thing. If I have goodmerge support on, I get this ridiculous list of hacks and alternate versions when i browse certain games, such as Tecmo Super Bowl - but at least when i choose one, it immediately loads up. If I turn goodmerge support off and try launching the game a dialog window pops up in nestopia asking me which game I would like to run, and again - poses a ridiculous list of hacks and such to choose from. Interestingly enough, Nestopia doesn't do this if you go to "load" and choose the game... only when it is passed to nestopia via gameex. My nestopia launch line in gameex is standard - nestopia.exe "[ROMPath]\[RomFile]" I glanced at the nestopia command line options and browsed through the menus, but didn't see anything along the lines of forcing nestopia to launch the exact name passed on to it. I can't figure out why it launches fine within nestopia but not via command line. Any help would be much appreciated.
  8. I am trying to setup selection music for my different emulators. I have found specific songs I'd like to play over each menu (such as the theme to the old mario cartoon for the NES menu). Initially I pointed the selection music folder to a directory that just had the file I wanted to play, which was named nes.mp3 - but no music played. I then tried pointing it to a directory with several music files in it, and immediately one of the files started playing. I did a raw dump of the nes.mp3 file to wav, and then re-encoded it to mp3 with standard settings (in case it was a strange compression or something the first time around). It still wouldn't play however. So, my question is - does the file have to be in a specific form? Whether that means a certain length, a certain filename type, a certain encode quality, etc... If not that, then does the selection music folder require a certain number of files? Any help on this would be appreciated - a forum search on "selection music" only turned up the feature request thread. EDIT: After messing around with it further I have noticed that sometimes the music will play. It seems to be about half the time. I'm guessing it has to do with whether or not the video from the main menu is hogging the sound device at the time gameex transfers to the emulator menu.
  9. I've just confirmed that my avi previews are not the HQ set. My set is much smaller in size, as are the videos. I would think this hints the problem is in a specific type of encoding, not necessarily the size of the files.
  10. Appreciate the response... I guess it's possible my vids came from there... I got them in a mamext32 extras pack - not from emumovies. I suppose I'll go d/l the SQ pack.
  11. Well, I am using the ffdshow pack from here. And there are no other codecs installed. My response really wasn't about the CCCP pack at all. It was about the way gameex seems to handle these movie files, and the fact that newer codecs aren't compatible with gameex - yet they also seem to be needed. As I mention in my other thread, my machine is plenty powerful and has ram to spare - yet it stutters a few seconds into my avi preview files. Also - it does this on both my machines, both of which are running the ffdshow from this site. Other versions of ffdshow, cccp, klite, and divx won't play anything at all and just cause crashes. All that said, the problem seems to either be with the ffdshow codec on the gameex site, or teh way gameex buffers up the videos.
  12. This thread seems to be the same problem I am experiencing, although my videos are coming from a different source. I'd like to bump this back up as dwight's suggestions are worth looking into. It is def a codec issue, and not a resource/cpu issue. I think the way gameex buffers up the videos may be exactly whats going wrong here.
  13. I have tested this on two systems, and both systems are running the ffdshow codec downloadable from the wrappers/utilities page. What is occuring is the AVI preview will begin playing, but after a few seconds the video pauses while the audio continues. A few seconds later the video starts again - but inevitably pauses again a few seconds later. Both systems are fairly high end, yet both pause at almost exactly the same time. Changing gameex options such as snap search speed (from slowest - best possible match to medium) seems to add an extra second before it pauses, and then it doesn't stay paused as long. One of the systems is a q6600 quad core while the other is an AMD Sempron 3200. Since they act almost exactly the same I am guessing it is not a processor speed problem. Interestingly it only seems to affect avi files. MPG files seem to play just fine.. so it could possibly be a problem with that specific version of ffdshow... although i also tried Klite and the latest ffdshow - both of which refuse to display anything and just lock gameex up. It is also worth noting that I did not have this problem using m old vidshrunk previews, it is only with the new mamext32 avi preview files that I am having the problem. Any suggestions are highly welcome.
  14. Did this ever happen to get fixed where you don't have to do it manually? I've been having the same problem.
  15. unfortunately I'm using a previously made theme to create me new theme (rather than make one from scratch), and this 'template' theme is not compatible with theme editor, as it is not a version 2 theme. I was hoping to simply find a numerical value to change to define the width of the list.
  16. thanks for the info. I suppose the next logical question is how to set the width of the list? I didn't see this in the ini file either...

    pong

you think pong is a way to impress your friends? Thanks for the elaborate explanation of Mame - I don't see how it has anything to do with this topic. I was simply asking why pong wasn't present - and bkenobi explained it just fine. Since your so quick to throw your personal opinion into the mix, I personally find pong to be quite fun and play it on my dos emulator for more than 30 seconds quite often. Using your "fun" theory, 90 percent of the games in mame don't belong in there. A quick look at the games list shows why arcadees failed, they were full of cheap games with hardly any innovation - clone after clone of the games which were actually fun.
  18. ya, dropping back before 0.116 will get rid of it. And your right, it does retain the "press ok" stuff - I just didn't notice it because I've played most of my roms at least once before. ah well.. at least it gets rid of a few of the screens.
  19. seems my question about setting the size of the selection bar got bypassed, just a bump on my part.
  20. see the other thread on this as I think i found a solution.
  21. I struck gold. In mame32 .116u2, goto default game options -> misc and check Skip Game Info. It bypasses all the warning screens.

    pong

well, I don't want to have to create an entire entry just for pong - I'd just like to have it listed with the rest of my arcade games. I have that old rom your talking about, but mame doesn't list it. I suppose a hacked version of mame might, but considering I updated my mame every few months, i don't feel like trying to find updated hacks every few months. Although it might be funny to have a list of 24+ emulated consoles and then at the bottom is just PONG in all it's glory..lol. If thats the case then I'd have to go compile every version of pong (from pong to pong kombat) and give it it's own little shrine or something.... but seriously, the day I'm that bored will be sad indeed.

    cps3 emulator

it's been added to mame 1.16u2. Not sure if that was well known yet?

    pong

random question.... can anyone tell me why pong isn't selectable from the mame games? I know I have the friggin rom, lol! I had a friend over after I finished building my cabinet last year, and I am all proud of myself after getting every emu I can find under the sun running with complete romsets. So I say, 'pick any game you want". and what do you know, my friend picks pong, so i scroll down and I look like an idiot because it's definitely not there, lol. I think we ended up playing an atari version instead. Does it require a specific screen resolution or something?
