  1. Hi guys, Thought I may as well use GameEx to search through and create any snaps I may be missing, so I enabled the feature in the config, but for the life of me I can't find the option in the GameEx Menus?? So once the feature is enabled, how do I actually do it? Thanks
  2. Thanks again Headkaze - that's a great FAQ - I hadn't seen that before. By the way, did you see the question I sent you about your Donkey Kong theme?
  3. Thanks - and it should be set to d3d right??
  4. Thanks Draco, and thanks for doing the research! I might try taking the video card out, and seeing if the results are any different. Can you elaborate on the BIOS settings, and what you mean by the video aperture settings. How will I be able to tell if they're correct or not? Thanks again.
  5. No, not the videos (I'm using Shark007's codecs) - the games themselves, and even scrolling through the menus for that matter. Take a game like Galaga for example - as the ship moves across the screen, it will stop for a fraction of a second, probably two or three times, before it gets all the way across. But play it in Mame, and it's fine. Scrolling through the menus there's a delay between moving to each menu item.
  6. Frustratingly I'm still having a lag problem. I bought new RAM, so it now has 2gb. Games run fine in their respective emulators, but lag in GameEx. I've tried all the above tweaks. Are there any other suggestions as to how I might improve performance? (looking like I might have to use a crappier FE in this particular PC?)
  7. Attempting to use CFG Magician to change my cocktail dipswitch - here's what I've done - - Used RomLister to identify the cocktail/vertical games - it's found 472 of them. Created a new XML list. - Pointed CFG Magician to the list of these games - it sees them no problem - Pointed CFG Magician to my existing Mame/cfg folder (there's only 190 files in this folder - I assume because a CFG file is only created if you change the setting in an individual game?) Anyway, here's where the problem starts - when I run it, it doesn't find any existing CFG files - the Excel exception file lists all of my 472 starting games as 'CFG not found'. Ok, I thought, I'll point it to the CFG file list that comes with CFG Magician. Same result - it says it's not finding any of the files. What am I doing wrong? Thanks
  8. Here's a potentially stupid question, why would you want to rename files?
  9. Thanks for that - I just read through the old FatMatch posts. I'll have to have a look at Skinnymatch
  10. Thanks BK - there actually is an easier way - there's a utility called FatMatch - it matches either missing or matched files and then allows you to 'action' them. Great utility!
  11. Brilliant! Thanks - now to work out CFG Magician......
  12. Thanks Headkaze - but won't changing that setting result in ALL games being rotated? I only want the vertical/cocktail games rotated. The horizontal games stay horizontal. Good pickup on the double up - beats me how that happened.
  13. Bit of an update to this - I used RomLister to identify all of the cocktail games that play vertically - around 470 of them. Whilst CFG Magician will change the dipswitch to cocktail, I can't see where it will change the display mode (I need it rotated 90 degrees clockwise for these games). Anyone know of a utility that will change a setting on multiple games all at once? Thanks
  14. I've used the Clone Move utility to clean up my roms - getting rid of clones and non-working roms. Now I want to clean up my video folder to match, so that I'm not using up space keeping videos for games that are no longer in my roms directory. Any suggestions on the best way to achieve this? Thanks
  15. Thanks for that - so the auto-update, I do that from within the application right? I have it disabled at the moment (because the PC is not normally connected to the Internet), so I just re-connect, re-enable.....and away it goes? Outstanding!
  16. Hey all, Having GameEx running now pretty much the way I want (and not having done an update before), to update my version is it as simple as downloading the new version into the same directory the current version resides? Do I need to do anything with my config file, or will the new version recognise the current settings? What about the registration key - will I need to re-copy it? Thanks
  17. Hey Tom - a relatively easy one I think - I need to be able to turn a monitor upside down due to some space constraints in my cab, and my video card does not support rotation (which means I can't do it via the O/S). GameEx can already rotate 90 degrees left or right - any chance to get a 180 degree rotation functionality in there please? Thanks
  18. Great question - to be honest I didn't realise the GameEx shutdown option exited and then shutdown politely (which is exactly what I'm looking for) - so you're right, this is my best option. Thanks
  19. So just so I'm clear on that - using the escape key will then just shutdown the PC - it won't exit GameEx first? That's fine for what I'm trying to achieve - I just find that exiting GameEx (back to Windows), and then turning the PC off at the power (without actually shutting-down), makes the PC a little unstable sometimes on the next boot up (sometimes it wants to start in safe mode etc). Hence the reason I want the PC to go through a proper shutdown process, rather than just powering it off - this seems to alleviate the problem.
  20. Hi guys, At present when I escape from GameEx it takes me back to the Windows O/S. I'd really like to set it up so that it escapes, and also shuts down the PC. Is there a command that I can add to the GameEx settings that will accomplish this?? Cheers
  21. Thanks very much for that!
  22. Problem solved! As soon as I asked the last question, I tested it - and it worked. All I have to do now is use CFG Magician to change all of the cocktail game dipswitches, and change the rotation for those games as well, and my 3-sided cocktail problem is history. Thanks for everyone's input!
  23. More progress! I've now got Mame rotating the screen to vertical. Pull the game up in GameEx, and it's vertical - outstanding. Only problem now is that the GameEx/Mame Bezels are still there, so the playing screen is really narrow - I like them being there for the horizontal games, can I remove them for the vertical games?
  24. Ok, I've made some progress - I've confirmed that the CFG folder sits in the right place, and I've confirmed that my changes are being updated. Now in MAME, a cocktail game starts in horizontal mode, and the screen flips for the second player. So far, so good, except that for the purposes of my 3-sided cocktail, I need it to start in vertical mode - not horizontal. Now to GameEx, and in Cocktail mode the screen is vertical and split - again, so far so good. But when I play the game, it goes to exactly how it is in MAME - horizontal, and flips for Player 2. What am I doing wrong here? I'm not fussed whether MAME or GameEx starts the game in Vertical mode, but one of them needs to..... Thanks again.
  25. Ok, we might be getting somewhere here - does it matter where the CFG folder sits......I think my structure at the moment is something like /MAME/ROMS/CFG - should CFG be sitting directly under MAME, or doesn't it matter?
