I've used the Clone Move utility to clean up my roms - getting rid of clones and non-working roms. Now I want to clean up my video folder to match, so that I'm not using up space keeping videos for games that are no longer in my roms directory. Any suggestions on the best way to achieve this? Thanks
-
Thanks for that - so the auto-update, I do that from within the application right? I have it disabled at the moment (because the PC is not normally connected to the Internet), so I just re-connect, re-enable.....and away it goes? Outstanding!

Hey all, Having GameEx running now pretty much the way I want (and not having done an update before), to update my version is it as simple as downloading the new version into the same directory the current version resides? Do I need to do anything with my config file, or will the new version recognise the current settings? What about the registration key - will I need to re-copy it? Thanks

Feature & Enhancement Requests
GoTheBunnies replied to Tom Speirs's topic in FAQs, Guides, & Other Useful Information
Hey Tom - a relatively easy one I think - I need to be able to turn a monitor upside down due to some space constraints in my cab, and my video card does not support rotation (which means I can't do it via the O/S). GameEx can already rotate 90 degrees left or right - any chance to get a 180 degree rotation functionality in there please? Thanks -
Great question - to be honest I didn't realise the GameEx shutdown option exited and then shutdown politely (which is exactly what I'm looking for) - so you're right, this is my best option. Thanks
-
So just so I'm clear on that - using the escape key will then just shutdown the PC - it won't exit GameEx first? That's fine for what I'm trying to achieve - I just find that exiting GameEx (back to Windows), and then turning the PC off at the power (without actually shutting-down), makes the PC a little unstable sometimes on the next boot up (sometimes it wants to start in safe mode etc). Hence the reason I want the PC to go through a proper shutdown process, rather than just powering it off - this seems to alleviate the problem.
-
Hi guys, At present when I escape from GameEx it takes me back to the Windows O/S. I'd really like to set it up so that it escapes, and also shuts down the PC. Is there a command that I can add to the GameEx settings that will accomplish this?? Cheers
-
Thanks very much for that!

Problem solved! As soon as I asked the last question, I tested it - and it worked. All I have to do now is use CFG Magician to change all of the cocktail game dipswitches, and change the rotation for those games as well, and my 3-sided cocktail problem is history. Thanks for everyone's input!
-
More progress! I've now got Mame rotating the screen to vertical. Pull the game up in GameEx, and it's vertical - outstanding. Only problem now is that the GameEx/Mame Bezels are still there, so the playing screen is really narrow - I like them being there for the horizontal games, can I remove them for the vertical games?
-
Ok, I've made some progress - I've confirmed that the CFG folder sits in the right place, and I've confirmed that my changes are being updated. Now in MAME, a cocktail game starts in horizontal mode, and the screen flips for the second player. So far, so good, except that for the purposes of my 3-sided cocktail, I need it to start in vertical mode - not horizontal. Now to GameEx, and in Cocktail mode the screen is vertical and split - again, so far so good. But when I play the game, it goes to exactly how it is in MAME - horizontal, and flips for Player 2. What am I doing wrong here? I'm not fussed whether MAME or GameEx starts the game in Vertical mode, but one of them needs to..... Thanks again.
-
Ok, we might be getting somewhere here - does it matter where the CFG folder sits......I think my structure at the moment is something like /MAME/ROMS/CFG - should CFG be sitting directly under MAME, or doesn't it matter?
-
Thanks, and by reset the game you mean simply escape and go back in again?
-
No, I haven't tried that - I will and will post the result. Whilst we're on that subject, when you change a MAME setting (such as the dipswitches), do you then need to do anything else for the changes to take effect? Reason I ask is that I changed a setting in a game I like to get 4 lives instead of 3 - but the game still only gives me 3 lives. When I checked the setting again, it said 4?
-
Hi guys, Some of the regulars will recall I've been trying to get GameEx running on a 3-sided cocktail, with the screen flipping at the appropriate time etc. I thought the new Cocktail functionality may be the answer to my problems, but it's providing it's own problems....... Login to GameEx and the Cocktail mode is fine - I have split screens, vertical, and can go through the menu that way. I select a Vertical game, however, to play, and the screen goes back to Horizontal. Doesn't matter whether I select one or two players. Have also played around with the Cocktail dipswitch in the game itself - makes no difference. Posting the log below if that helps (I'm also still lagging and have ordered new RAM, but if anyone sees anything in the log that may be slowing me down please let me know). Answers to a few questions - - Operating system is Windows XP Pro SP3 - It's a fresh install on this PC - but like I said, the same config as the install on the other PC - What games aren't running properly - all of them, both Mame and other emu's. - I've confirmed that I'm using the latest drivers for the video card - No anti virus software running. Thanks for the suggestions - I'll give them all a try. Mesk - I'm curious to know, were you having similar problems before you changed those settings? I'm surprised nobody has suggested upgrading the video card - is ugrading the RAM a better option than upgrading the video card? Thanks

Hi guys, My GameEx install is lagging - the games don't play smoothly, but rather hesitate every second or two. When I play directly from the emulator front end they're fine. My specs are Intel Pentium 4 2.8Ghz (motherboard ASUSTek Oxford), with 1gb RAM and an NVidia Geforce FX5200 128mb graphics card. Thinking I may need to upgrade the graphics card? If that's the case, what should I be looking for as a minimum? Any other config settings I should be looking to adjust? I'm using exactly the same config of GameEx on a Pentium Dual Core 3.2Ghz without any problems. Thanks

Hi guys - would be interested to get some thoughts on kep mapping in GameEx. I'm using it in a MAME cab - fairly standard 2 player 6-button layout, with joysticks and a coin and start button for each player, as well as an escape button. Thinking the easiest option for the player is to have the Player 1 A&B buttons as the 'Select' and 'Back' buttons for the GameEx navigation - but wondering whether this causes any other problems that I haven't considered? I'm working on the basis that once you're actually playing a game, when A&B obviously become critical to fire, jump or whatever, it won't matter what they're mapped for in GameEx because they effectively become 'in-play' and therefore adopt their MAME settings? Is that thinking correct? (hoping I explained it properly!). Thanks

At this stage, a keyboard, and eventually an IPAC. So to move up/down at the moment, I'm using the up/down arrows.

Thanks - you've answered a big part of the question for me - that it's not something that I have setup in GameEx that's conflicting with the Daphne set-up. At least now I can narrow it down to going through the Daphne set-up. Like I said, the part I don't get is that it's fine in Daphne when I reverse the settings, but still wrong in GameEx. I must have something wrong in my Command line - but hopefully someone else has had the same problem and knows a solution.
-
Thanks Tempest - yeah I changed them in the individual configs for each of the games (which I assume then changes the dainput.ini file) and they then work fine in the Daphne front end - but then they reverse again in the GameEx front end. I thought I must have been missing something in GameEx

Hi guys, Been configuring my Daphne games, and have most of them running. Problem is that in the Fighter flying games (ie Astron Belt, Galaxy Ranger), the up and dwon buttons are reversed. When I change the config in Daphne Loader so that the Up button is now down and vice versa, the game then plays fine in Daphne Loader. So far, so good - but although I copy the command line again into GameEx, when I start the game back in GameEx the keys are reversed again. Even if I reverse them back in the Daphne config, they're still wrong (in other words, GameEx reverses them no matter what). I'm obviously missing a step - what is it?? Thanks

Great guide Ranzo! I'm almost finished my install, so wish I'd seen this guide a month ago! But having just had a read through it, I'll be using some of your instructions to fine tune my system. I also haven't got Daphne up and running yet, so will certainly use your step-my-step instructions to get me through it - I haven't been able to find any instructions as good as that anywhere. Nice work - thank you. -
Thanks Headkaze - one more potentially stupid question - if I use the PlugInRotate to go into cocktail mode, how does it know the games for which it needs to rotate? (ie how does it identify a cocktail game that needs to be shown vertocally)?

I did - and that's a great feature! So back to the Direct Draw thing - should I be using it?
