  1. Yeah the option is there, I had a look at it last night - the problem is that it creates videos for ALL games, not just the missing ones (and takes about 2 days to run!). I'm only missing about 1% videos and snaps, so this option is not particularly viable. That's why the Create Snaps option appealed - it only creates the missing snaps - perfect. So any update on where the option has disappeared to?
  2. I didn't know that option was there either? If it was (and it worked), it would solve a few issues.
  3. I've been using an external HDD to set up my GameEx install - just makes it easier for me to move it between PC's and tinker. Now I'm nearly ready to install it on the HDD of the PC in the cab, so have installed a clean version of GameEx onto the PC and made sure my directory structure etc is correct - what files/folders do I need to copy across from the external HDD to ensure my config settings are maintained? Thanks
  4. Outstanding - sounds like exactly what I need, and not too difficult to achieve. I'm still working my way through the list, changing dipswitches and testing the games (it's amazing how many there are that you change the dipswitch, and it does nothing!), but within a couple of days I'll be ready to put my .ini file together. Thanks
  5. Thanks for that Adultery - you kinda lost me half way through, but I get the idea that I can do it. Ok, here's what I understand - I have a txt file with the rom names of the games I want in the list. I just re-save this an an .ini file?? Where do I put it - does it matter? I point GameEx at it in the Custom Folders part of the MAME setup (I'm a bit lost here, but I don't have GameEx in front of me, so it might make more sense when I get home and look at the Config). What about the roms themselves - do I need to move them to a separate folder?? Ok, then I can get a generic icon, call it the same name as my .ini file, and put it in the themes LOGO folder? (I understand how to do this, I'm just not entirely sure what I'm doing.....) How does it know where to display on the screen? All going well I'll then have an item (icon) in my theme that when I go to it, it will display a list of the games in the .ini file? Am I right with the parts I semi-understand? Thanks
  6. Thanks - I was assuming that they were drawing from the game categories, but was hoping it wouldn't be too difficult to just point the menu item to a different list (ie the list I create). Even if that means moving the roms that's no problem. But as you said, I'll defer to the gurus on this one!
  7. That makes me feel a bit better - I thought I was going mad not being able to see it!
  8. I've put together a list of games for my cocktail cab for which I've reset the dipswitch so the screen flips for Player 2. I thought it would make sense to have these games in a separate menu list so that users know exactly which games they can play in this format. A couple of options - ideally I'd like to replace one of the existing lists that I don't use (ie MultiPlayer Games or something like that) with my list of 'Cocktail Games' (is that option possible?). Alternatively, I figured I might have to delve into Custom Menus to get my desired result. I've searched through the threads, but can't find a guide to working with Custom Menus - does one exist? Thanks
  9. Yep done that - thanks - definitely enabled, that's why I couldn't understand why I couldn't see it in the menus. Looking in the wrong place probably part of the problem......
  10. Hmmm, ok I'll have another look. Like I said, I changed a few themes, but admittedly I was looking in the wrong place - I was looking where the games are listed - not where Change View etc are. Thanks
  11. So does that mean the bottom rom of my list of games (ie all MAME games) ? After Z? It's not there, not on the bottom row of anything, and I've changed themes a few times to make sure I wasn't missing it.
  12. I've made some good progress with this - I've got CFG Magician to change the dipswitch settings, and create a bunch of new CFG files. So far, so good - but even though I move the newly created CFG files into my MAME/cfg folder, when I go into the game and check the settings, the Dipswitch has not been changed (even though I can see in the new CFG file that it HAS been changed). When I exit the game, the CFG file has been overwritten. I must be missing a simple step? Anyone had a similar issue?
  13. Hi guys, Thought I may as well use GameEx to search through and create any snaps I may be missing, so I enabled the feature in the config, but for the life of me I can't find the option in the GameEx Menus?? So once the feature is enabled, how do I actually do it? Thanks
  14. Thanks again Headkaze - that's a great FAQ - I hadn't seen that before. By the way, did you see the question I sent you about your Donkey Kong theme?
  15. Thanks - and it should be set to d3d right??
  16. Thanks Draco, and thanks for doing the research! I might try taking the video card out, and seeing if the results are any different. Can you elaborate on the BIOS settings, and what you mean by the video aperture settings. How will I be able to tell if they're correct or not? Thanks again.
  17. No, not the videos (I'm using Shark007's codecs) - the games themselves, and even scrolling through the menus for that matter. Take a game like Galaga for example - as the ship moves across the screen, it will stop for a fraction of a second, probably two or three times, before it gets all the way across. But play it in Mame, and it's fine. Scrolling through the menus there's a delay between moving to each menu item.
  18. Frustratingly I'm still having a lag problem. I bought new RAM, so it now has 2gb. Games run fine in their respective emulators, but lag in GameEx. I've tried all the above tweaks. Are there any other suggestions as to how I might improve performance? (looking like I might have to use a crappier FE in this particular PC?)
  19. Attempting to use CFG Magician to change my cocktail dipswitch - here's what I've done - - Used RomLister to identify the cocktail/vertical games - it's found 472 of them. Created a new XML list. - Pointed CFG Magician to the list of these games - it sees them no problem - Pointed CFG Magician to my existing Mame/cfg folder (there's only 190 files in this folder - I assume because a CFG file is only created if you change the setting in an individual game?) Anyway, here's where the problem starts - when I run it, it doesn't find any existing CFG files - the Excel exception file lists all of my 472 starting games as 'CFG not found'. Ok, I thought, I'll point it to the CFG file list that comes with CFG Magician. Same result - it says it's not finding any of the files. What am I doing wrong? Thanks
  20. Here's a potentially stupid question, why would you want to rename files?
  21. Thanks for that - I just read through the old FatMatch posts. I'll have to have a look at Skinnymatch
  22. Thanks BK - there actually is an easier way - there's a utility called FatMatch - it matches either missing or matched files and then allows you to 'action' them. Great utility!
  23. Brilliant! Thanks - now to work out CFG Magician......
  24. Thanks Headkaze - but won't changing that setting result in ALL games being rotated? I only want the vertical/cocktail games rotated. The horizontal games stay horizontal. Good pickup on the double up - beats me how that happened.
  25. Bit of an update to this - I used RomLister to identify all of the cocktail games that play vertically - around 470 of them. Whilst CFG Magician will change the dipswitch to cocktail, I can't see where it will change the display mode (I need it rotated 90 degrees clockwise for these games). Anyone know of a utility that will change a setting on multiple games all at once? Thanks
