An update to this - have decided to install GameEx Arcade with the new codecs as recommended. Going to keep my old Mame version though - I installed the new Mame version and a lot of my roms wouldn't run, so given they were running fine on the old version I figured why mess with it. I haven't tried to run other emulators yet, but suspect it will be a similar story. One early issue though is that my old version of GameEx won't run on the new PC (maybe something to do with 32-bit versus 64-bit?). It doesn't need to run obviously, because I'm re-building, but I was hoping to reference some of the config settings that I used so I could copy them in the new system. Any suggestions? Thanks

Thanks very much, that’s really helpful

Hi guys, I was an early adopter of GameEx, and built a couple of Mame machines using the GameEx frontend. One of the machines I built has died, and I'll need to do a re-build with a new PC. It was running GameEx V12.75. I've still got all my original GameEx Config files, but I'm thinking I may be better off just starting from scratch with the latest GameEx version (?). Last build I put in a bunch of emulators - Mame, Sega, Daphne - the list goes on. But this time I think I'll keep it simple and just use Mame (and download the latest Mame emulator) - I've got more than enough roms for that. The other things I'm considering are that the last build had no internet access, but this time I'll probably include a wifi card. The only other thing to think about is that it's for a cocktail machine, and I recall last time it was a pain working out all the games that had to flip screen for player 2. Any early advice before I start getting into it would be appreciated. Any tips or tricks I should be mindful of moving up so many versions of GameEx? Thanks in advance

Great work, thanks Hans - found the file and made a backup. Cheers
-
The backup file is a good idea actually - do you know what the name of the Mame config file is? There's a file called config (which I assumed would be it), but the date of that file didn't update when I made the changes, so I'm wondering if that's the one?

I sorted this problem, but still have no idea how it happened so would appreciate any insights........ I checked if the fire button worked outside of GameEx ie in Mame itself, and sure enough it didn't. So I checked the Mame Configs, and many of the inputs had changed. So 'C' for example was no longer Player One, Button One. Changed the config back to the original settings and everything is fine. Weird thing is....I'm running 2 machines, and the same thing happened on the other machine as well. Exactly the same issue. Anyone had problems with goblins changing their Mame configs before? Separate question....I'm running GameEx version 12.84....I've been scared to update for fear of messing with a system that I'm happy with. Any comments?

Hi guys - slightly odd problem I would appreciate some help with please.... It's been a while since I configured my machine, and it's been absolutely faultless for the past few years (that said, I haven't upgraded the GameEx version for a few years either). My 'fire' button has suddenly stopped working on Players 1 and 2. I've configured the 'C' key to fire for Player 1, and the same key is also used a my 'Select' key, so when I'm screening through game lists I effectively use the fire button to select games etc. It works fine then, so I know my connection to the Ipac is ok, but inside a game itself the button doesn't do anything. Appears to be the case on both Mame and non-mame emulators. Any thoughts as to what this may be? Thanks
-
The behaviour varies Tom, some games show no image at all (ie a black box), whilst others show a coloured box (differing colours depending upon the game). Happy to post a log if it will help, just wasn't sure there was much point in this case?

Strange issue in one particular emulator - Nintendo 64. I noticed that a lot of games don't have video preview. I checked the video files and they're all there (in f.flv format), and when I check the files themselves they play ok (so not a codec problem). The naming format also seems to be fine - the names of the files that don't work use the same format of those that do - and they match the roms. Any thoughts?

Hi guys, I'm using Krakerman's Retro theme, but the font size in the menus is a little small for my liking. It uses the Boulder font. Is it possible to increase the size? I've tried changing the font to 'Bigger' in the GameEx Display settings, but it doesn't change? Thanks
-
Thanks - that's helpful, I'll have a play with it and see how I go.
-
Krakerman, might need your input on this one please?
-
Ok, I now have all of the emulator backgrounds lining up! (woohoo!) - not entirely sure how I fixed it, I copied the backgrounds with a new name which matched the name I'd given the emulator in my GameEx settings, pointed to the new file, and it worked. The only backgrounds that are now not lining up properly are my 'Emulators' menu, 'Most Played' and 'Last Played' - how do I tell GameEx to point to the files Krak has created for these menus?
-
But Bibgy is suggesting it does matter. I've selected the background manually in all of the Emulator SetUps, but it's still not lining up correctly on a few on the emulators. Bigby's post suggested that I needed to change the .ini files to match the 'emulator entries' - I'm just trying to clarify what he means by that.
-
Can you clarify something here for me please Bigby - when you refer to your 'emulator entries' - are you referring to the folder names, or to the names that they've been assigned in the GameEx config menu? I've matched the .ini file names to my emulator folder names, but continue to have the problem with a few of them. Thanks
-
I can't for the life of me find where to download this font (and I can't see where the original zip file is)??
-
Thanks Bigby - so when you say 'different to what your emulator entries are named', do you refer to the name of the emulator folders? In other words, I need to match the emaultor folder names to the .ini names in the theme? I'm away for a few weeks niow, but looking forward to giving this a try when I get back home!
-
Done - but problem remains. Latest log file follows -

These boxes were already checked.

Great theme Krakerman, and I think I'm nearly there with it......... For most of my emulators, they load up fine and the background is perfect for where you have set the video previews to play etc - I didn't have to set the Custom Background. For a few of the systems, however, there was no background, so I manually set the Custom background so that it picked up the right background for the emulator. Problem though is that the video previews etc are not in the right part of the screen. I've attached a pic of my Nintendo Entertainment System screen so you know what I mean. Have I missed a step when setting it up? I also noticed that the Emulator menu is not in the right part of the screen now (another pic attached), but I'm sure it was before? Again, is there a setting I've missed?
-
Thanks Tom - downloaded the new version, and that has fixed the problem of all the emulators loading - thanks. I have another issue with the theme, but I'm guessing it's totally unrelated, so I'll put it in a separate post. Thanks again
-
Tom how do I get the changes onto my system? (I've tried doing the full install again but the system is using the setup.exe file I downloaded earlier....)
