1. If you do an in place install, your settings will be fine. If you completely uninstall GameEx, remove your GameEx directory and so forth, you will lose your settings. So I'm confused. Are we describing two (possibly three) problems or just one? I've seen a few things reported Steam starts with GameEx. Both applications start, but Steam steals focus from GameEx. You can launch a Steam game from GameEx, but GameEx steals focus back from the game before it really gets going. Steam tries to Start with GameEx. Steam starts up fine, but GameEx doesn't start at allDo I have all of that right? If that's the case we need to try and focus on just one thing at a time. It seems like 1. and 3. are most pressing (and inversely related somehow). If you're having problems with games, let's not worry about that until we either get Steam starting up at the same time as GameEx without issue, or alternately starting up with Windows and and not causing issues for GameEx.
2. If this is a GameEx issue, I don't know if there are any helpful suggestions that we can offer. 13.20 is a super old version of GameEx at this point (current version is 14.35), and there have been many bug fixes since that time. In offering suggestions, we wouldn't even be playing on the same field if that makes any sense. Based on your input though this sounds like a matter of being able to properly exit Gamebase along with the associated applications you mentioned. Having said all of that, I'm not familiar with GamebaseLauncher. Have you tried simply using the integrated support for Gamebase? there is at least one helpful guide available, although if you go this route I would implore you to update since once again we are not able to offer much in the way of helpful suggestions with such an old version of GameEx.
3. Hi JonnnyGold Please do update, as it will insure you're up to date with any recent bug fixes and that we're all on the same page as it were. In the meantime, this part about your settings caught my eye: Based on this I'm guessing your using an IPAC or some other keyboard encoder. If that's not the case we'll want to change some of these settings, but I'm guessing that it is the case. Based on that, I'm thinking you may have something going wrong with your input settings or possibly a conflict between your IPAC settings and your GameEx settings. Unfortunately, any time we start talking about IPACS and whatnot, my eyes start glazing over being as it's not a piece of hardware that I've ever used. Unfortunately this means that troubleshooting this one might be tricky, as it's something unique happening with your setup (or alternately it's a bug that's been widely unreported, which seems unlikely). Try taking a look at your input settings and verifying that everything is configured as you might expect. We do have a few IPAC users around that may also be able to swoop in with some handy dandy suggestions.
4. You can call me a jerk for this (please do!) ... but am I the only one who thinks that poster makes Han look like an incontinent old man who just dropped a surprise number two? I am? Ok then. <slinks away>
5. I use DVDFab (lifetime license and everything), and if I were to compare it to a SlySoft product, I would say it's most similar to CloneDVD (although I should mention that I don't use AnyDVD or CloneDVD). The primary specialty of DVDFab is ripping and copying DVDs and Blu-Rays. Having said that, DVDFab is really solid at what it does, and I've only encountered two DVDs (that I own) for which it was unable to effectively copy the content.
6. Happy birthday fReq! I have a feeling that grandson of yours is probably doing a pretty effective job of keeping you young, ya lucky dawg!
7. Awesome, thanks as usual for the rapid response Tom!
8. I almost forgot one of my favorites. Holy bat crap is this track heavy! I don't know that I've heard such a bass heavy track on the NES. Fun fact: if you tremolo pick this tune on a guitar, congratulations ... you're playing black metal. Hell, if you play it at the intended speed, you're playing doom metal.
9. Pffft. You kids and your licensed music soundtracks. Behold the grandeur of chiptune OSTs. (j/k) If I had to pick a favorite licensed music soundtrack it would have to be GTA: San Andreas I loved that one right along with the GTA:SA commercial with Welcome to the Jungle!
10. Sorry, the VIP forum is a special perk for forum members that have been designated as having Elite status. It has more to do with one's presence and contributions to the community around the forums than with the GameEx license itself. Something to shoot for though, right!?
11. Generally you should (or will) receive an executable registry key which will activate your copy of GameEx upon running. GameEx policy is to defer all registration issues directly to Tom, so any further pursuit of this issue should be accomplished through direct correspondence with him. (Refer to your Client Area).
12. It looks like there's a couple likely culprits here. First and foremost, it looks like you have MAME setup as a 'standard' emulator. Unless you have a specific and compelling reason for that, you really don't want to do that. GameEx offers quite a lot of functionality specifically dedicates to supporting MAME, and as such it has it's own dedicated configuration settings in the Setup Wizard (see here), and for the most part you'll want to configure MAME exclusively through those settings. Secondly, it's been a while since I've messed with custom menus, but generally the Update List function for MAME will appear as the last list item in your MAME list (for the integrated version of MAME - i.e. when you configure it through the MAME settings page). It doesn't actually have it's own independent menu selection that can be placed in a custom location. Double Check to see if it's in your MAME list (once you have it all configured to your liking). To me this sounds like it may be an issue with cache files, not being properly overwritten updated. Please try the following: navigate to the \Gameex\DATA folder and delete all the files with cache in the file name or extension. The next time you start GameEx it will rebuild these files. I see the following in your settings: emu_4_capitals=FalseChange that setting, and I think you should be on the right track here. I believe you can alter those items by modifying the theme you are using. For some reason I want to say that you need to move them off the screen, as you can't get rid of them entirely. I'm shooting from the hip there. One of our theme wizards might have to field this one. This one is weird. Clearing those cache files might help, otherwise you might have some sort of issue going on at the theme level.
13. Apparently not mad enough to google the forums a bit. (Sorry, a little light humor there) Check this thread to see if it helps at all with the Steam focus issues. Long story short, please verify that this part checks out If you have the Steam Overlay enabled, this part of your settings also caught my eye: You might have a play at moving Steam into the LaunchOnStart command, rather than the LaunchOnStartNoWait. If none of this helps, how critical is it that Steam starts at the same time as GameEx? I generally just have Steam start with Windows, and I've never had any problems with Steam in GameEx. The Steam client is pretty light weight, so it's definitely something to consider. Just a thought. This sounds like a problem with a game wrapper (or lack thereof). Some games utilize a launcher, or Java, or some other executable that obfuscates the actual game executable from GameEx. Thus when the launcher (or whatever) closes, GameEx assumes the game has been closed and returns to GameEx. This thread has a ton of information on Steam Wrappers. Also FWIW, it might be helpful to post an updated log file during an instance in which a Steam game is exiting early as it might provide further indication as to what's going on with your setup.
14. The only danger is insofar as overload for folks with full sets of ROMs. The amount of games that fall under one or more of these descriptors is fairly sizable: And especially when you consider that Hardware games are not playable at all and the same applies to several prototypes, hacks, and bootlegs, it all starts adding up pretty quickly. So for people dealing with full ROM sets it's better to leave at least some sort of nominal filtering in place.
15. Try doing these things sequentially: Go to the Touchscreen / Tablet Settings screen and set Enable to False (unless there is some compelling reason that you need this).Go into GameEx and rebuild your MAME ListDo you have your missing games? If not do this next. Go to the MAME Settings screen and remove Japan to from your Game Filter setting (for some reason I want to say that most/all the games you listed had a single 'world' release which is likely tied to Japan).Go into GameEx and rebuild your MAME ListEdit: Or you can do as Dazzle suggests, which may in fact be the more direct route to take
16. Yeah, unfortunately DaemonTools decided to take their application that worked perfectly well 99% of the time, and change it so that it works 50% of the time ... maybe. These changes included making significant changes to their command line support. You can read more about it right here. Unfortunately I've not had the time to start testing out some alternatives (like Virtual Clone Drive, Alcohol 120%, and the like), but conversely I've also not updated DaemonTools, so there is that.
17. This value has changed since in between posting your settings. I'm not sure it explains what was happening before, but it would definitely seem to explain why you're not seeing a MAME menu entry now ... or at least not in the default position. Go into the Setup Wizard and on the MAME Settings screen change the Menu Under Games setting to False. We can change it back if necessary, but first I think we just need to get back to some sort of base line. If that doesn't work, please do as tthurman suggested and post up that log.
18. MAME should appear as an entry on the GameEx start page and not under a start menu. In fact it should appear as the first menu selection on the start page. You are absolutely correct in thinking that the MAME entry that appears under Emulated Games will appear when you configure MAME as a 'standalone' emulator. This is not the 'integrated' version of MAME. Check out your start page again to see whether there's an entry for MAME. I don't see anything within your setting to indicate that it's been disabled.
19. At the risk of sounding self referential check out this part again: (And you'd probably want to leave the name just as catver.ini) Maybe I'm misunderstanding the question?
20. Attach it to your post as an attachment. (You'll have to go to More Reply Options at which point you'll find the file attachment options below the text entry section). ... also FWIW it's very handy and helpful to others to use the spoiler tag when you're posting wall of text style log files and what not. Just enclose your post like so:
Paste Your Log Here
21. Basically all categories in MAME are derived from a file called catver.ini. Pretty much all of the good sources for that file are blocked at my current location, but if you google "catver.ini", you'll find a number of available sources. For best results, you'll want to be sure that your catver.ini matches your version of MAME. Customiziing the catver.ini is not the most straight forward affair, but if you're interested in doing so I'd recommend taking a look at the following thread: Custom catver.ini In order to integrate a different version of catver.ini into GameEx, you would simply enter your catver.ini file path into the Catver ini Location field found on the MAME Settings in the Setup Wizard. Good luck!
22. So just to verify, you're attempting to use Atari800.png and Vectrex!.png? Are you using custom menus? Did you make any headway on locating and supplying your log.txt?
23. Yeah I wondered about that as well. You could always experiment with breaking it up a bit (backup X directory on one schedule, Y directory on another schedule, etc.). Of course, ideally it would be nice to do a merged backup for only those files that have changed, and this proposed solution falls apart a bit in that regard. Hmm ... actually as I think about it, one program that I've recently started using for backup, and absolutely love (so far), is FreeFileSync. It does actually allow for user configurable file comparison, to run the sort of merged backup described above. I just checked the list of supported features, and it does in fact support SFTP as well. I've not tried the FTP functionality, but like I said, I've been very pleased with it for local backups across LAN. IMO it would be worth checking out to see if it might work for you as well.
24. Honestly I would try to keep it as simple as possible. If you used a a command line capable SFTP client such as WinSCP, you could write a simple batch script for the upload and then just use Windows Task Scheduler to systematically invoke it on a regular basis. There may be some hidden gotchas (not sure), but it would seem to work out on paper at any rate.
25. I think this is the crux of the matter. It's going to depend on what transfer methods are supported by your seedbox provider. Is FTP supported?
