  1. Just as a point of clarification, we currently recommend the version of Shark007 that's available from the PinballX homepage. Some of the more recent versions of the Shark007 codecs come packaged with adware and have caused instability for GameEx and PinballX.
  2. I wouldn't worry too much about using a map file until we can verify that GameEx is able to find your ROMs. Just like the command line, it's won't do you much good until that time. When you have a moment please post the requested files, so we can take a look at your settings and log.
  3. So glad to hear you got this figured out, and what a strange problem indeed! I actually have BattleBlock Theater in my Steam library as well, but I don't currently have it installed. I think I'll try installing it just to see whether the problem duplicates itself on my system as well. It would be a good thing to know just in case. Thanks again for reporting back with your findings!
  4. Hi disco74 and Welcome! I have a working Supermodel config at home that may prove to be of some assistance, but that part typically comes in handy when you can see your ROMs but they aren't launching for whatever reason. If you can't see your game list at all, that's usually indicative of a configuration problem. Have you double checked that your ROMs really and truly are located in D:\Sega Model 3\roms? Have you double checked that you've not inadvertently indicated the presence of non-existent a MAP file? (I think you will eventually want to use a map file in order to make the ROM names for this system readable IIRC). Have you checked that you haven't accidentally set your ROM filter to filter the contents of the directory? There could be a couple of different things happening here. When you have a minute would you mind uploading a copy of your full GameEx.ini, along with a copy of your log? This will help to give us a better picture of what's happening and hopefully help to narrow down the possible causes. Thanks man!
  5. Happy Birthday Riffman! I hope life is treating you well, and that all is right with the world. Enjoy your day man!
  6. You might specifically try running GameEx as admin to see what happens. C:\Program Files\ is a special directory in Windows and thus requires elevated permissions for some functions.
  7. I can't really put it any better or more succinctly than Draco just did, but I echo his sentiments, and please do know that I wasn't trying to cause you undo frustration. I tend to take it as a given that at some point pretty much every GameEx user sets up an emulator from scratch. Generally speaking the only two potentially tricky parts are figuring out the command line (above) and figuring out how best to exit a given emulator (there is also the rare occurrence in which an advanced emulator config becomes necessary, but that is such an outlier that it's almost not worth mentioning). I guess for the most part I consider emulation to be a DIY hobby save for island oases of help and assistance like this one. That's actually one of the things I like about the hobby. It can be frustrating occasionally, but it's fun and rewarding to solve issues that have been plaguing you. In situations like this, knowing some tricks for searching the forums become invaluable. My favorite one is adding site:gameex.info to a Google search (so like site:gameex.info ppsspp). Doing a search like this I was literally able to find a full ppsspp config in under two minutes. (Thanks stigzler!) I don't want to be the "Google is your friend" guy, but do realize that the information available to you on these forums is a very valuable resource when you encounter these sorts of issues. It's like an GameEx emulation reference library at your finger tips! Chances are if you're having an issue, someone else may have experienced that exact same issue. So long story short, see how far you can get in setting up ppsspp, use the forums to your advantage, and if you hit issues we're right here to help you out. Good luck duders!
  8. Glad to hear it worked out.
  9. Spot on. In the post I linked by Krakerman (here), he included an advanced emulator config for D-Fend Reloaded. So download that zip file, extract the contents, and put the file (DosBox.ini) in the following directory: \GameEx\CONFIG\EMULATORS. Now open up the Setup Wizard, navigate to the Advanced Emulator Setup screen for D-Fend Reloaded, go to the field Draco describes above, and there you'll find a new entry called DosBox. Select that. Bada bing, bada boom. I believe that advanced emulator config should still be applicable for current versions of DOSBox.
  10. You can either select an existing config and change the settings you need (which is probably the easiest if you've not done this before), or you can simply select an empty emulator slot, click next, and enter the necessary information on the emulator settings screen. GameEx is capable of running any command line compatible emulator, which extends well beyond the list of pre-made configs available in the Setup Wizard. In the post I linked earlier, Krak posted a working ppsspp config (you can open it with notepad), so if you duplicate his settings that should be a good starting place. Welcome to the world of roll your own!
  11. So Humble Bundle is currently running their big End of Summer Blowout Sale. Check it out! Among other things you can get Stealth Inc 2: A Game of Clones for absolutely free, gratis. But that's not even the biggest news (at least IMO)! They're also running a build your own bundle package for Telltale games, and the sale is running with a graduated discount (i.e. the more games you buy the bigger the discount is, going up to 85% off for 5 games). But there's a trick! Say you're interested in picking up Telltale's Game of Thrones series. I know I was! So add GOT to your cart then add in the three $0.99 games and you can have the whole shebang for less than $7.00 (for a discount of 83%)! This is by far the lowest price I've ever seen for TellTale's Game of Thrones series. I liked this trick so much I also added Tales From the Borderlands into the mix (also at an all time low). Good Times!
  12. Yep, that's the very one. It's made quite a few fans right here on our forums. Mayflash DolphinBar (Wiimote to PC) Mayflash DolphinBar: Your Wiimote/Light Gun/Steering Wheel Solution!
  13. Is there a specific reason you are running pcsp? I was under the impression that ppsspp was the emulator of choice for PSP (with the added benefit that it's frontend friendly). PSP is not a system that I emulate since I still have a trusty ol' PSP around, but from what I've seen ppsspp seems to be the concensus for a lot of GameEx users. If you go that route, the command line is pretty simple: PPSSPPWindows64.exe "[RomPath]/[RomFile]"
  14. You are. Local legend fRequEnCy put together a fairly comprehensive list a few years back (and continued to make additions and modifications as necessary). That list is a really good resource, but for anything that is missing from the list (some of the more recent emulators), you can generally find some good suggestions by googling around on the forums (ProTip add site:www.gameex.info to your search query in Google. It's a bit more robust that searching the forums directly.).
  15. Looks really great Krak! I like that one.
  16. It does appear to be an issue at the moment, but at least it's a known issue. See here as well. I believe it's being worked on. Thank you for taking the time to report it!
  17. I think the pertinent part of what Draco was describing is that he's running DOS games purchased from GOG, which just happen to leverage DOSBox for operation. The trouble wiht this is that GOG DOS games generally use heavily customized loaders tailored to each specific game. It makes sense being that if you're purchasing a game you want it to work out of the box with out a lot of faffing about with configuration. If you haven't checked out GOG, you should. They're probably one of the best digital games distributors out there, especially for us retro-weirdos. I think the most popular solution for running vanilla DOSBox through a frontend is to use D-Fend Reloaded. This way you can set up your own custom DOSBox configs in advance and launch them much more easily. Basically you create your configs in D-Fend, and then launch them directly from GameEx. Krakerman put together a pretty decent explanation for incorporating D-Fend Reloaded into GameEx (be sure to read the remainder of the thread as well).
  18. Does the artwork display correctly within GameEx itself?
  19. Basically you'll want to perform the following steps to maintain your settings exactly as they currently are: Copy your entire GameEx installation directory over to your new harddriveInstall GameEx over the top of the copied directory.Done.Make special note that this will preserve your settings exactly as they are, which may not be strictly desirable in terms of having everything working again right out of the box. If it's possible, you'll want to try to make sure that your GameEx install is up to date prior to doing this. This part is not strictly required, but it may help prevent weird issues, particularly if your current install of GameEx is a particularly old one. You'll also want to account for any directory changes in terms of assets, emulators, and ROMs which won't necessarily match the ones in your updated system (depending on the exact nature of your update).
  20. I have to admit that while it's not a genre I go totally gaga for, I am pretty excited about No Man's Sky. Granted it's not necessarily a pure Space Sim in terms of singular focus, but I really like the idea of seamlessly going from the macrocosm of interstellar travel and space battles clear down to the microcosm of planet level exploration on a small scale.
  21. Hi Barny, and welcome to the forums! In order to fully understand what's going on here, we may need to take a look at your PinballX.ini and your log.txt after having experienced this issue. Naturally it's not a guarantee, but these files often provide us with a better idea of what might be happening and why. Please refer here for further details. Thanks a bunch!
  22. I don't think there's a 'better' or even 'recommended' solution here; it just comes down to a matter of personal preference. PinballX is a completely different frontend from GameEx, so if you've not used it before, there may be a learning curve for you. Having said that it really is a great frontend, and widely regarded as the best pinball-centric frontend currently available. Here's the most recent version of the PinballX help guide if you're interested in looking into PinballX. Bear in mind that if you go this route you'll want to launch PinballX from GameEx as an external application. If you'd rather avoid all of that it's certainly possible to setup Visual Pinball through GameEx as well, although it's not necessarily the most straight forward endeavor. Here's a pretty well written guide on how to accomplish that. Long story short; choose which ever method makes you happy! They're both equally valid and good choices.
  23. I've kind of backed off a bit on this one since we've got a lot of cooks in the kitchen , but just to chime in, I would definitely advise against this one.
  24. Also remember to kiss the cook.
  25. Spot on. I'm sure most of us old timers remember having to do this with our monitors from time to time.
