  1. HI all, Really dumb question, I know, but Ican't work out how to add display Cabinets and display Fliers when you look at the info for a game. I have them still in .zips, in the folders, but I must be doing something stupid. Used to work, but I don't know what I clicked to knock them off: of course, now I want them back! Appreciate any help (as always) Johnny
  2. Hi HK, Yeah, I've been through the whole setup, makes no difference. After a bit of checking around, I'm sure it's not GameEx at all. I tried different themes at different resolutions to make sure, and I noticed when I used the Blue Ex Arcade 640x480, when you select a game the selection bar kind of scans up and down on the text. While loading the snap, it slowed to a crawl: once loaded, the "scanning" goes back up to full speed. The snaps themselves, GameEx and Mame all run at full speed perfectly. I've added my snaps to the WMP library, and when I click on them inside WMP, they take the same time to load as they do in GameEx, so I'm sure that my WMP is the problem. It's better now I've done that, as when I go from game to game in the lists, GameEx doesn't freeze up (I can just skip to the second game, instead of having to wait while the video for the first game loads before I could scroll down to the second in the list). I really think it's just my PC is getting old, needs a good format and reinstall. Or if anyone has any tips on how to improve responsiveness in WMP, I'm all ears! Thanks for all your help, everyone. Johnny
  3. Just some bumpage and additional info. The video snaps are slower to load now than before: I've got the newest drivers for my graphics card and FDSHOW, which has made a big difference in the menu transitions (text scrolling into place). Just to be sure, I got a newer version of WMP10 as well, and I'm using the v2 .NET (I think it's called). Actually, that might have been when I first noticed the slowdown, but it's definitely worse now. I don't know: I'm waiting until I have the cash to buy my new PC and I'm going to strip this back to barebones to make the cab, so hopefully it will improve things. Thanks all, Johnny
  4. Hi guys, Just got a daily build of the FFDShow (never knew that what I was using was about 4 years old!), and the menu transitions are flying now, but it still takes about 5 seconds or so for the video snap to appear. It plays perfectly when it does, just slow to get to that point. Is it because I have so many video snaps (ie, pretty much all of 'em!). All help still greatly appreciated! Cheers, Johnny
  5. Hi all, I'm having serious trouble now with the speed (or lack of) the video snaps loading in GameEx. I've been through the FAQ, I'm using a 2400+ Athlon, 1Gb RAM and GeForce 6800GT. I have an average wait of about 5 seconds now for the snap videos to load, but Mame itself runs fine. I'm using the FFShow codec, and I'm kind of stumped. Picture browsing is fine, but even the menu transitions are very slow. Anyone any ideas what might speed me up a bit (or a lot)? My drives are quite old, would a defrag make any difference? Cheers all, Johnny
  6. Just a bit of bumpage. ANy luck, Ricci? Anyone? Or is Tom going to unleash a built-in MP3 player option (please!) Johnny
  7. To be fair, it's the one place she wouldn't go, so maybe.... Nah, it's going in, like it or not (if that's ok with you, dear).
  8. Hi Ricci, Brilliant! I'm just a button masher, but I'd like the cab to be allowed into the house instead of relegated to the shed, or worse, the "guest room", and I reckon that this might swing it for me (""but, it's great for parties and stuff, you know, when we entertain our friends..."). Thanks Ricci, here's hoping! JohnnyG
  9. Hi All, Hoping someone would be able to tell me that they managed to get Winamp working through GameEx. I'm getting close to buiilding my cab soon, and I'd like to be able to set it up. The jukebox function doesn't seem to be quite what I'm looking for, and I love the visualizations in Winamp. Is it do-able? Or is there any chance that it might be a feature in a future version of GameEx (a full blown MP3 player, rather than a juke). Cheers guys (and gals?) Johnny
  10. Hi, I think I read somewhere (probably BYOAC) that Hi Scores are not supported in the new Mame release. If this is the case, I'm staying on my current version! JohnnyG

    Autoupdate

Hi Just reinstalled the new version as Tom said: jobs a good 'un! High score still intact, and favorites, most played, etc. I love GameEx! java script:emoticon('', 'smid_4') Cheers Tom, JohnnyG
  12. Hi, Agree totally with Headkaze, Lego Star Wars is a briliant game 2 player. I'm just trying to set it up to run through GameEx now, but I've already mapped the buttons to my X-Arcade 2 player stick and it plays like a champ, so I think I've done the hard bit (?). Got it for only a tenner last week as well! Bargain! Johnny

    Autoupdate

Hi Tom, Yeah, I'm just about to do that. What files will I need to keep to keep my favourites, configs, and most importantly, my high scores! Don't tell me I've lost my Black Tiger high score (still there after a solid month of my best mate button bashing!) Thanks, JohnnyG

    Autoupdate

Hi, Need a little help, please (at least I hope it's only a little!). Yesterday, GameEx prompted me to update, but I couldn't get it to, so today I switched autoupdate on, and it downloaded and installed the update, but I keep getting an error Process id=0x17c (380), Thread id=0xff4 (4084) It's an old-ish PC, but it runs well enough for me to build a cab around it when I get the money together for a new PC. Also GameEx won't run if I swith resoultion above 800x600 in the Config: I don't really care about this though, it looks cool in 640x480. Any help much appreciated! Thanks, JohnnyG
  15. No probs, although I don't think I really helped you at all! I kind of remember that F2 is for entering the dip switches on the cabinets, so maybe once you tell the rom it's working (by pressing F2 and getting past the Factory Default Reset message), it saves it and doesn't need to do it againg next time round. Kinda like pressing "OK" the first time a rom is run? JohnnyG
  16. Hi, I had this issue too with Williams games (Defender, Robotron and Bubbles): I switched the rom I was using to a different colour (Red label, Blue label, etc) and it worked fine. I'm not sure, but maybe the version of MAME you are using doesn't support some of the roms? Anyway, hope that helps. JohnnyG

    Sorting ROMS

Hi all, I'm in the planning stages for my full size cab at the moment: it must have a very high WAF (Wife Acceptance Factor, thanks to whoever coined that phrase on th BYOAC boards!), and I'm basing it around the Nintendo style. As a tester, I was given an old PC (Pentium II, 128Mb RAM, 4Gb hard drive) and I'm going to make a bartop first. How will GameEx run on this? Should I get a different front end for a lower spec PC (don't really want to)? More importantly, with only a 4Gb disk, I want to sort out the games I want on it. It's going to be a vertical machine, 1 stick and 3 buttons. Is there any way of filtering these out and deleting them from a copy of Mame on the bartop? I want to keep the marquee artwork, cabinets, snaps, etc, but just for the classic games that I want on it. From reading here and on the BYOAC forums, I heard about catver, but I'm not sure what I'm doing at all. Anybody with a bit (or a lot!) more savvy able to give me a hand, please? Thanks, JohnnyG
  18. Hi, I've been struggling with Daphne for quite a while now, and this post really helped. The only thing I had to change (apart from the directories, obviously) was to put the path to the framefile in quotes, eg: GameOptions_1 =-framefile "c:\daphne\framefile\dl_framefile.txt" Dragon's Lair and Space Ace now run in GameEx perfectly: after all that, I didn't need to rip them from my 20th Anniversary DVD again at all: I just needed to read the command line to get the correct commands. D'oh! Johnny

    Sound issue

Hi, I had this problem a while back, too. When running Mame through GameEx, press Tilde to bring up the options, then press right to bring the volume up. As far as I remember, although GameEc runs Mame, it doesn't import the settings (something like that, anyway). Once you set it once, its set for all games. JohnnyG
  20. Hi, I'm just about to start building my cab, and it'll boot straight to GameEx so I wont be able to use the keyboard. I did notice that if you press fire and down together, the list jumps down to the bottom of the screen worth of the list you are on (try it, you'll see what I mean). I'm using an X-Arcade for the cab, cheating I know, but the thoughts of all that wiring frightens the lumps outta me. BTW, good to see GameEx getting a good write up on the Build Your Own Arcade Cabinet forums (BYOAC, if you're thinking of making a cab, GO THERE!) JohnnyG

  22. Hi Tom, I'm not being wilfully stupid: where is my GameEx.ini file, I can't find it? I've had a rummage around in Daphne and managed to add Dragons Lair as a game name to the newer Daphne loader in Space Ace, but the error keeps coming back up. I don't know how to remove that from options: I can make it display the command line before it runs, but even when I delete it, it comes back every launch. BTW, I forgot just how hard the old arcade games were, and Space Ace is rock! Thanks for the help, Johnny
  23. Hi Tom, Yeah, as soon as I read "refresh list" in your reply I saw exactly what I was missing: makes perfect sense. I'll do it tomorrow 'cos I've got quite a few games, and it'll take a while to update it! The sound was set for Pause GameEx List Audio and run Mame with sound: I just changed it to Pause playlist audio and run Mame with sound and it's bang on now (I changed it, don't know why, but I knew it used to be right!). 2 for 2 Tom, well done! Now if someone can just sort out Daphne for me I'll be golden... Johnny
  24. Hi all, I'm looking for help again. I noticed some people saying that the filters were removing too many of their roms: iwant the opposite, ut the filters (no clones, no brackets, etc) dont seem to have any effect. Any one any ideas on whats happening (yes, Use Game filter is on!) Also, I previously posted that although the sound is 100% in Mame, through GameEx every game I have to press tilde and move the volume up from -32 db, every time I launch a rom. I'd loke to be able to just set it once, universally: it's not a big deal now, but in a Mame cab, I'd have to get the keyboard out for every time I launched a rom to show off to my greenly envious family & friends! Any help much appreciated: have a groovy Easter all. If you can't eat all of your easter eggs, send 'em my way (Cadburys only, please). Johnny
  25. Managed to fix this problem. I dont know why, but when I remapped the volume up/down in Mame, it didn't work. I pressed Tilde by mistake, and saw that the volume was down to -32db. Press right to bring it all the way up to 0db and it's perfect. Hope this helps someone out. Johnny
