  1. Hi, Not sure if this is what you mean, but I had an issue like this some time ago (no volume in GameEx, fine in Mame32/Windows) Start any Mame game in GameEx, then press Tab. Press and hold right arrow til the slider is all the way to the right (max volume).Exit out back to the game, and that should set your Mame volume within GameEx to full. Hope this helps Johnny
  2. HI all, No luck getting the intro video to run smoothly, but I downloaded RegSeeker and ran it (it's clears dead junk out of the registry) and the Mame videos snaps are now flying along again! Just about instant response, where I was waiting up to 5 seconds between each video when I scrolled thru the list. It's an old syste, and I suppose there was too much crap lying around. Highly recommended. Hope this helps somone out Johnny
  3. Just wanted to chip in. Thanks to all for the great help and support on the forum; friendlier & better than anywhere else I've been, with no resident smart ass who doesn't really help but loves to critcize all the noobs with their repeat questions! (that would be me! ) Johnny
  4. Hi DB, I cant check for sure as I'm not in front of my PC, but I think the filters should be Allow Imperfect, Working Only, then refresh your list in GameEx. Nologic: heh, sorry about that, but give me a chance to try and give a little back! Johnny
  5. Hi and welcome, 1) Not sure about this, but check your filters and allow working, I think that happened to me (basically, if the rom is not 100% right, it will still work) 2) Alpha paging to on. This skips to A when you pres A , etc. Also, press down and Fire 1 at the same time skips to the next page 3) If you want to put GameEx in a cab, try Tom's instant sheller When you get your key, just back it up on a disc and keep it. Reinstalling GameEx wont affect it. If you want to run multiple copies, you can, but I think another donation would be an honorable way to go about it for another use? Just a suggestion. Hope this helps, Johnny
  6. I initially registered to get rid of the nag screen, but like I said at the time, it's the only occasion that I've ever donated to shareware. I tried other frontends (still do occasionally) but never managed to get them to work properly: GameEx worked for me from the off, and I was so impressed I donated. I don't really notice the extra features, all I really wanted to do was play Black Tiger! I don't see how people can complain about having to make the donation to get rid of the nag screen: don't pay, launch GameEx, wait for a minute. Whats the problem? You are still getting more or less full usage of the best frontend I've used, and the best support forum I've seen (try asking for help at the Daphne forums ). Like a wiser man than me said above, GameEx costs less than a pizza and will last an awful lot longer, so divvy up and show your appreciation! JohnnyG
  7. Hi all, Just wondering, can I set up GameEx to use Media Player Classic instead of Windows Media Player? WMP seems very slow to start playing files outside of GameEx, never mind in it, and I was curious if I could just delete WMP 9 (or 10) and let GameEx use Classic instead. Thoughts/info/pointers: all appreciated! Johnny
  8. Hi folks, I changed the intro video to one I downloaded from Retroblast (MAME spelt out with lightning kinda thing, looks cool). It plays fine in WMA 9, but stops for a second in a couple of places when I start GameEx, while the sound keeps running, then just jumps forward to match the position of the sound. It's always in the same spots, too. I've previously had trouble with video snaps being slow to start running (but run fine when they do), and I think it's something to do with how WMP says "connecting" when I play the snaps in WMP. I was using WMP 10 but some guy in work suggested i switch back, but it made no difference. Would downloading a codex pack make it better? Thanks in advance and have a great Easter, Johnny

    Controls.dat

Hi All, Can someone tell me where to put the control.dat file to list the controls, please? I did a search but "controls" brings up about a squillion results! I used to have it working, but it must have been an old version of Mame which I deleted. I have the dat file, but I can't remember how or which folder it should go in. Thanks, Johnny
  10. I dont think there is a limit on the amount of game: it's down to what filters are enabled. If you want all the roms, you'll find lots of them are clones, so you could jave 20 versions of Space Invaders, for example. Do yo really want ALL those Mahjong games? I have all Mahjong games off, No clones unless better, allow imperfect, bracketed text off. Cuts the list down to about 3000 or so, but even then I don't think I'll ever get around to playing them all, and only a few hundred at most more than 10 times! I suppose it is nice to have the otion though. Johnny
  11. HI All, I've been trying to find an old cab to gut and MAME-ify here in Ireland, but I've had no luck at all. I have a lot of plans from Jakobud so I'm going to try building a widebody Nintendo style. I found this link http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?...d=19139;start=0 it's for SpyStyles guide to building a cab: with HKs LED guide on the boards, it gives a really comprehensive layout for beginners (I think). I think Iano was talking about this guide as well? Cheers, Johnny
  12. Hi HK, Brilliant job, really neat and tidy. This is the exact kind of thing I'm looking for as regards help building my own cab: I have Slyspy's guide so I have a step-by-step for wiring buttons in the CP, but couldn't find any real detailed way to wire LED buttons. This is perfect! CHeers! Johnny
  13. Hi, Strongly recommend Star Wars Lego. You'll need 6 buttons for it (it's what I use on my X Arcade), but the kiddies love it, and the bigger kiddies will love it too! Johnny
  14. Hi All, Wow, some great replys: this is why I initially posted! I'm working at the moment so I can't stay long, but to Iano and others trying to build in Ireland, I might have a place that's selling old cabs off (no idea of prices yet, though). I still like the idea of building my own, but I'll see how much they are looking for compared to building (and the hours of time to build it!) CHeers all, Johnny
  15. LOL! Yeah, kind of pre-emptive sucking up, cos I reckon I'll be looking for a whole lot of help when I start to build! I've been looking at getting an existing cab, but theonly one I saw was an old defender, busted monitor, stick and only two buttons intact and o no idea if the boards were working, and the cab was in a really bad way (scratches, water damage, etc). He wanted 150 euro, for what amounted to a load of dodgy components and badly damaged chipboard. I passed! Even getting a coin door second hand is next to impossible, primer paint for MDF is about 30 euro for a tiny tin, don't get me started! I really want to have a go at making one myself: I got lots of blueprints and bought a router, enough spares to make 2 or 3 Mame PCs, bought an Ipac, now I need the cash to buy the controls (and a new PC!) and off I go. Having said that, if I can find a good cab at the right price, I would buy it, but I wouldn't sell it on: two of my friends are very interested in seeing how it works for me, so they might take any old wPC bits/cab for themselves. Thanks for the advice, Emph, always appreciated. Johnny
  16. and Adultery, Slipstream, Ricci...so many others... Thanks guys!
  17. Bugger! Forgot Nologic! Sorry, man!
  18. I've just gotten a problem with GameEx fixed within 5 minutes of posting a question on the forums: I'm always amazed at how helpful and knowledgable people here are. Tom obviouly, but Headkaze, Emph, Lingpanda and so many others always seem to be right there with the help you need. Cheers guys, much appreciated. My point for this topic is can anyone who's built cabs give me some pointers on building my own? I'm in Ireland, so where to get material would be great. I have quite a few plans I downloaded from the Jakobud site, and I'm going to go for a Nintendo widebody style.I'm thinking of putting LED buttons in my cab, nothing too fancy, no attact mode, just lit buttons. I a a member of the BYAOC boards, but to be honest, you guys here are much more friendly and helpful. Can anyone do a little tutorial on how to wire, say GGG LED buttons with a 12v from the power supply? As always, if I can help anyone out myself, I'll be happy to. As I said, I haven't built ANYTHING yet, but I have been amassing as much info as I can about just about anything (drilling plexi, wiring coontrol panels, making volume control knobs, lots of stuff). I'm claiming no credit for any of it: I've just looked around for it and downloaded/bookmarked anything I thought was relevant. I know this is not about GameEx, but seeing as it is about playing arcade games, I hope I can be of some help to someone, and give a bit back to a great community. Thanks all. Johnny
  19. Back! Bang on again, Tom: I missed the HideOS.exe. Binned it, reinstall and I'm sweet again. CHeers! Johnny
  20. Yeah, i thought so. Give me a few minutes, I'm going to restart. I also have a problem with booting up, where I sometimes have to unplug from the wall and the try it a few times before it will start. Obviously not a GameEx problem, but man, do I need a new system! Cheers Tom Johnny
  21. Hi Tom, Thanks for the really quick response: that did the trick. I never really look at the homepage anymore, just about everything I need to find is covered in the forum. I got an error now, even though GameEx is working: first error appears when GameEx starts, but it still runs. Then when I quit, and click continue, the second one appears. I lose the windows toolbar when this happens: not such a big deal though when I finally get a cab built. Any ideas? (actually, I haven't tried a restart yet, might do it?) Cheers, Johnny new_error.bmp error_2.bmp
  22. Hi folks, I've just installed the 7.52 version, and the install kept failing at the last point on the progress bar. I renamed my folder as old, and put a fresh install of 7.5 in, and it works fine, but I've lost all my favorites and most played lists. The snaps, rom paths etc were all fine, so GameEx is working fine (and the nag screen didn't reappear), but is there an easy way to import my old favorites/most played from my old version of GameEx? Thanks in advance, Johnny
  23. Hi all, I downloaded the Random sounds plugin, being a bit bored with the Arcade ambience files I have been using. I configured it in the manager, and I think it was playing over the arcade ambience files, but I might have been imagining it. I deselected the arcade ambience so I could hear the random files by themselves: no joy. Then I pointed arcade ambience in Gameex to the plugin folder, but still nowt. Anyone able to tell me what dumbass mistake I've made (cos I always miss the really obvious ones!) Thanks in advance, Johnny
  24. Hi, Don't know if it's any help, but I had the blue box thingy problem before as well, but once I reverted back to the default font it cleared up. Anyways, seeing as Tom is on the case, I'll butt out cos I'm only guessing anyway! Johnny
  25. Thanks One2Three and Han, that was it exactly. I had two Mame folders, deleted the one where I had the fliers/marquees/cabs unzipped. Unzipped em again, and presto! Cheers, Johnny (BTW, how can I edit the topic to say that the problem has been solved?)
