Yeah I need to do a little clean up of the folders. It's no big deal since they mostly all work as it is. I wanted to keep the simple navigation structure though of "Original", "Flipperless", "Recreated", etc. Makes for a much easier way to find what table specifically you're looking for.

Man I don't know where to go now! I need Atomiswave now too.. that looks awesome. Didn't even know I was missing that one. -
1) ask somebody else, I haven't setup a saturn emulator yet... 2) map files are are lists. they have the rom name and the actual title. So when you see SMB3, it will actually be Super Mario Brothers 3 in GameEx with the map file. It just makes your romlist cleaner and easier to understand, so you don't have a bunch of stupid rom names. This is particulary helpful in cases like MAME where they limit the filenames to standard 8 characters. Wrappers are little app/programs that wrap the emulator/rom into a simple launcher. For instance, there is a wrapper for Visual Pinball that takes the name of the table, launches Visual Pinball, injects the table name into the command line, does some clicking etc to bypass warnings and popup dialogs, then allows for an easy exit back into GameEx when you're done. Wrappers were handy a few years ago when GameEx was new, and there weren't as many options for command-line launching of games directly. Nowadays, wrappers aren't needed as much. Mostly they're used for emulators that, as I said, don't have direct to game access via GameEx and something is needed to automate the launching process. 3) theres a section of the gameex setup wizard called External Applications. You find everything you need there. Basically you ENABLE it. Setup a name (ie; "Launch Notepad"). Give it the path to the executable (is; "C:\Windows"). Then the CMD (ie; "notepad.exe"). Snap/Logo is whatever you want, for our example, a picture of a notepad, called notepad.jpg (the snap filename must match exactly with the file). Show Desktop if you want. Map Keys if you want to exit the program with a specifc keystroke. Wait/Send keys if you need to. Enable mouse emulation if you need. Launch Before/After if you need to run something along with it (like your popup keyboard display, etc). Help Text will display whatever you write after you click to start the program, and before the program actually launches. It's all pretty self explanatory. You just need to make sure you ENABLE it.

These 2 look really great! Make me wish I had those emulators set up! (speaking about the Saturn and Naomi) -
Well the problem I have with the libraries I think has to do with my folder structure. On some of these tables, there are multiple versions of the table, and the torrent creator put them into subfolders. This is fine, you just have to tell GameEx to search subfolders. The problem with this, is that it may or may not include all the required libraries. Some folders only have the table, and a creator-made library; but not all the default libraries, or the original libraries associated with an older version of the table. So I COULD copy all the default libraries over into each and every subfolder to make it happy, but that's like 800mb's of libraries being copied into each of 30+ subfolders. I could also just get rid of all the subfolders and just have 1 version of each table. That might work, except some of them have MODS, and some have different rules, etc. One table in particular I was looking to play (Captain Fantastic) didn't even have a table in the root. They were all in subfolders for each version/creator of the table. I didn't even have the table listed originally until I remembered about the checkbox to enable subfolder scanning. Now I just go a whole mess of tables that only work 50% of the time because the torrent builder didn't map out copies of the required libraries for those subfolder tables.

Dang it! Not another version of Star Wars I need to download now! I'm still waiting to buy my bluray set. I watched the clip of vader in ROTJ saying "NOooooo" to the emporer when he was shocking Luke. It's enough to piss me right out of Star Wars. But a "despecialized" version, in HD, using bits and pieces from all around to make the best version sounds great! I already own the series on bootleg VHS, original storebought VHS set, Special Edition VHS (standard AND wide screen version), Original DVD hack of the LaserDisks (I guess this is called the GOUT), DVD set (first release, not the newer one with 2 versions in it), and the original DVD releases of the prequels (as well as a VHS Special Edition of Episode 1). I was waiting to get the BluRay because as much as George Lucas now loves to go back and tweak his movies, I got a feeling he'll go back and do a proper BluRay with an in-menu system to enable/disable the special edition tweaks. That'll be the one I buy. But for now, this version seems good enough for me.

Wierd, setting up compatiability to Windows 7 and Run as Admin seems to have made the difference for me. I was able to play half a dozen or so with no problems. I only wish some of these tables actually worked and weren't missing libraries
-
Ok, I'll try that. Tom said it's {LEFTMOUSECLICK} though.. just saying.
-
I dunno what gives, but it still doesn't work for me. I still have to click the mouse button once the table is loaded up. I'm gonna tweak the 'wait before' time. But I don't know if it's even sending it.
-
Cool! I'll give this a try. What would be a good wait time before sending? 3 seconds?

Another hugely overrated game is Minecraft! OMG I can't stand that game, and don't see why people just drool over it so much.
-
I think you misunstood overrated vs underrated Draco. Overrated means people say its so much better than they really are, and underrated means people don't say enough good things about a great game. So in his option, the most overrated games are the COD games, which are not as good as everybody says they are. And the 8bit games dontt get nearly enough hype for how good they really were. I have to agree with kaceyrayclare about the 8bit games. Granted, they're all the same kinda genre, sidescrolling shooter/fighting, platform, and a few puzzles. But they were FUN to play. Current games nowadays are all hyped up on visuals, while the FUN factor tends to go downhill. Sure a game can LOOK absolutely amazing, but a lot is still required to make a game really great. The problem with the COD games, they spend to much time making it look realistic, and not enough time making an interesting story. Halo, on the otherhand, DOES have an interesting story to go along with all the shooting. So I do agree with Draco there, that Halo is not only FUN, but has great graphics, and they're always improving while not losing it's integrity as a good story. When it comes down to it, I prefer games that are simple but have engaging storys and replay ability. I'd play DOOM over COD anyday, just because it's FUN and doesn't feel like a chore.

All you need to do is configure GameEx to find the tables as part of ROMPATH, set your rom filter to *.vpt, then your command line is vp-launch6.exe "[ROMPATH]\[ROMFILE]" He already takes care of automatically launching the table once it's loaded into VP, and bypassing the disclaimer/title screen for PinMAME. The escape key then closes everything out which takes you back to GameEx. I'm also using a gamepad. I created a joy2key profile, and created a shortcut that launches joy2key for that profile. Then I have my launch before set to: start "" "M:\Joy2Key\Joy2Key Pinball.lnk" and then launch after to close it: taskkill.exe /F /IM JoyToKey.exe
-
May I ask where you got your snaps? The place I got my tables from only had the VPT files, with no artwork.
-
Yeah it works, but I did some more tests, and it's only about 80% reliable. For some reason, it's timing for when to do the left click is off. Sometimes the program isn't loaded yet, and the click registers to the desktop, causing FP to be 'out of focus'. Other times, the click will happen when FP is loading the table but before it starts rendering, and the click will adjust some setting or something before the table begins to render, causing it to some adverse issues. Most of the time though, it seems to work great.

I changed over to Launch Also instead of Launch Before, and it works beautifully!
-
Thanks for the link. I'll try that exe. I think it's probably a launch before.
-
Yeah, never thought of that... GameEx.ini (Just the emulator part, all other tables match this config) Advanced Config File (Created so I can use a gamepad combination to exit... I might not need this now since I can exit with the mapped key in Future Pinball) GameEx.ini

The latest version of Future Pinball is really nice. It has a new input interface that detected my game pad and allowed me to map the buttons I wanted to the table. When I load up Future Pinball directly, everything works perfectly. However; when I launch Future Pinball from GameEx, it seems like I've lost focus somewhere. The game pad doesn't work until after I click the mouse button, thus bringing focus to the game, instead of whatever else it's on. Anybody had this problem and know how to resolve it? I don't mind clicking the mouse, but it seems kinda strange to have to click it everytime I want to play.

Well I can see that would make sense, but I recall using this before, and the updates only showed up for the systems that had them. It might have changed since the last time I used it though. Thats why I wanted to bring it to his attention. Before, if only 3 systems had updates, those would be the only systems that populate when you choose [YES] to see the updates, and then it only displayed the set for that system that had the updates. Now it's just listing a bunch of systems and no sets; hence my concern.
-
Is the website/server down or not working right? When I log in with the program, it tells me there are updates available. I select [YES] to see the updates. I choose the system, then on the right where you select your set to download, it just lists nothing. I tried selecting the nothing, and GO lights up. But when I press GO, nothing scans/downloads. It does this with the version currently with GameEx, and the standalone version on your homepage that's up to version 0.98. Just curious. Also, did you used to have artwork for Visual Pinball on there? I see a lot of users here that have played Pinball and have some kinda screenart. When I tried to download them, all I had available was Video_F4V. I downloaded them but they're all for widescreen full size cabinet tables, not for a HTPC setup. I'd love to see some standard 4x3 videos and/or static images.

Look good Krakerman! And I still own my copy of AH-3 ThunderStrike! -
Well I just did full blown reinstall, seems to have fixed all my crashing. WOO HOOO!! Also, I don't seem to have that annoying balance issue either. So for future reference, here's what had happened.... I installed VP using a program I downloaded from the vpforums website. They have a tab there listed as "Getting Started" and in there is a program called VP Installer. This is basically an automated installer that includes VP, VPinMAME, and all the required samples, scripts, and nvrams all ready to go in one neat package. The problem with this though is that the program is out of date. It installs version 9.0.2 of Visual Pinball and version 2.3 of VPinMAME. The latests are 9.1.2 for VP and 2.4 for VPM. So when I tried to play tables from the torrents, they were NEWER than the installer had used, thus crashing happened. To save yourself heartache, just download the full 9.1.2 installer and 2.4 installer from vpforums and forego the automated VP Installer app. As a side note though, you DO need to then download and put the samples/scripts/fonts/nvrams where they're supposed to go. Also, the wrapper/loader/menu program Castro created works GREAT with GameEx. You never see the desktop, and instead see a very nice LOADING screen. I also figured out how the in game menu [ie; MAME TAB] works. If it's BLUE, you can navigate to different menu items; if it's ORANGE, you're locked on that menu item setting and are switching it between the available options. Now onto Future Pinball!
-
I'll have to go back to find out which ones were doing it. I know there was one that was extremly bad I couldn't even play it. As for the crashing, I think I might have figured it out but I need to run some tests... The guys over at the vpforums were saying it sounded like my tables/roms didn't match my version of VPinball, much like you guys suggested. I said I had 9.0.2, and they asked if it was a typo because the latest version is actually 9.1.2. I doublechecked, and sure enough it had installed 9.0.2, not 9.1.2. So I just got done reinstalling it, and will test here shortly. As for the unbalance issue, it may have cleared itself up on its own, or it might have just been the few tables I had initially tried. I played a few more tables yesterday, and they all seemed fine. So I'll report back.

Well, without going into detail on HOW or WHERE, I got the Visual Pinball 9 clean set. Then I went to the vpforums and downloaded the setup guide (http://www.vpforums....etail&f_id=4070) which had me download the latest version of VPinball (9.0.2) a long with all the extra bits like samples, fonts, vbs scripts, etc. So anyway, I would assume VPinball 9.0.2 along with Version 9 of the tables would be all I needed. Inside that Version 9 table torrent included all those sub folders like Original, Recreated, PinMame Recreated, etc. Should be working. And most of the tables I've loaded do LOAD and launch, they just have this weird leveling issue. Here's the post I made on the vpforums about these issues: http://www.vpforums....showtopic=18833
