@mcgee1982 Did you install LAV Codecs? not having those can create issue with video playback in PinballX. If that's not it then when attaching your log.txt and pinballx.ini files please also attach an example video file. Make sure the log.txt file is after launching a table where the backglass video is not displayed.
-
I think this has come up before and may be a limitation in PinballX and would need a new feature request if it is. Generally, launch audio files are used in conjunction with muted loading videos.
-
@ipower Can you also confirm what the cpu usage is like after quitting & restarting PinballX and launching the same table again (like in your first post describing the original issue). And yes a video will probably help a bit!
-
Excellent find!! 👍 That would be the cause. Launch audio should really be only a few seconds.

Is the 'originalVisual Pinball' database just a backup copy of the 'Visual Pinball' database in ..\PinballX\Databases\Visual Pinball ? Maybe that's confusing Game Manager somehow. If it's a backup try moving that file somewhere else. At least you've got a workaround using Database Manager instead if not.
-
There is one further thing to try; Try changing the 'Table Loading Media Mode' to 'Use loading folders' in general settings. I think we've seen an issue before where one system struggled to create a snapshot of the playfield video for pinballx to use while the table launches (which is what the 'use playfield images' option does).
-
Please attach copies of your pinballx config.ini & log.txt files (the log file after seeing the issue) and attach a screenshot of your VPX key configuration screen. Also confirm if you have any windows compatibility settings selected for PinballX.exe (right click on the exe, properties, compatibility).

Strange... were you closing Game Manager after changing the 'Hide Backglass' option? (think Game Manager only saves the database xml on exit) If that's not it then maybe the database xml had corrupted somehow and database manager saving it fixed it(?). Only way to know would be to try the Game Method method for Hide Backglass again and see what happens now.
-
What media are you using for backglass and dmd, is it video or images? (the media you have set to stay on on game launch) If using videos try images, if already using images try with the option to hide them on game launch (in game manager or database manager) and check cpu use then. Also make sure you have antivirus and/or defender exceptions set for all pinball related folders, and if not done already install the latest lav codecs

To update PinballX just install the latest version straight over the top of your current install with the installer. Settings and media will not be overwritten. No idea about the Black Rose loading time, sorry.
-
Maybe @Tom Speirs will have an idea why your backglass images aren't being captured, i'm all out of ideas now. Pbx Recorder can grab images or playfield media for you from VPX though so that could be a workaround for now. Note that if you read through the comments you'll find some later versions. It should work if you still have a copy of screenres.txt still in your tables folder (so long as you remove the comment lines)

Good spot Mike! I agree. The only other thing i have to add is maybe it's worth trying with the '-offline' option in the FX3 launch parameters just in case it's related to that on the first launch.
-
Yeah, didn't think they'd be affecting much. Had a quick play on the cab, backglass screenshots are working for me every time so long as the backglass media is hidden in PinballX on game launch. Really not sure what's happening on your system. Maybe try clearing out your 'Screen Grabs Backglass' folder for your VPX system under the media folder if you haven't done that already.

Just for completeness this topic also has a thread on vpf - new table pinevents - Future Pinball - VPForums.org

It might be a focus issue. When you have the black screen on the playfield can you press ALT+TAB and see if you can set focus to the FX3 playfield window (i.e. bring it to the front)? I don't have FX3 installed so i'm not sure what display options it has (fullscreen exclusive, windowed etc), but if it is a focus issue then try changing those setting in FX3

A couple of things to confirm; Is 'S' mapped to anything in Visual Pinball keys as well as the screengrab in PinballX? Log shows 3 screens found, but i think you only assign/use Backglass and Playfield directly in PinballX. Is that correct? They're probably not related to the problem but best to confirm. I'll try and have a play around with screengrabs tomorrow.
-
I normally use videos but just tried on my setup and the screengrab button did create an image in the Backglass Images folder ok. Looking at your log file (which is when i assume you tried to take a screen shot from the backglass) on table launch it shows "Not Hide Backglass!", so make sure you have selected the 'hide backglass' option as in the first post. Also check what media files you already have for that table before and after trying the screengrab That option is for the loading media shown on the playfield screen on table launch. Playfield images will take a screengrab of whatever media you have shown for the playfield in PinballX and will show that with a loading gif on top, loading media can use loading videos etc instead (default is random but you can use a plugin to have table specific loading media) I don't think that will affect you. It would affect users who use B2S files in PinballX rather than backglass media, or use PBXRecorder to create media files.

@duv67 Please attach your pinballx.ini and log.txt files when asking for support. It sounds like you have 'one click launch' enabled in settings but hard to say without those files.

Make sure that the plugin's row is highlighted in plugin manager before selecting Configure. Just ticking the check box won't always do this, click somewhere else on the row too.

Just a note, when PinballX is run in windowed mode it can run in a kind of single screen mode and move the backglass and dmd windows - so the position you see in the screenshot might not be the same positions that they are when you run PinballX full screen. My guess is that either it's the startup dc2 messing things up as Mike suggests or your windows screen numbers have got fudged over time and don't match what PinballX thinks they are (on my setup even windows and nvidia disagree about the screen numbers). So try disabling the dc2 startup script first to see if that fixes things.. if not then you could try changing the screen numbers for the backglass and dmd to 3,4 and 5 and see if you find a combination that works (an alternative to this would be to set the screen numbers to the same as your playfield monitor and then use the x and y offsets to set as an absolute position from the top left/right of the entire desktop). Welcome back, and thanks - a lot of your posts helped me out a lot when i was starting out

PinballX Enhancements/Features Requests
scutters replied to Draco1962's topic in FAQs, Guides, & Other Useful Information
Figured it was time to summarise a lot of this thread as features have been added/fixed in all the years it's been going and some things have been addressed elsewhere (via plugins etc). So here is my abridged version of the most popular / commonly requested features in roughly descending order.. Sorting Add sort option for wheel order (year, manufacturer, install date, emulator name in all tables view etc rather than just alphabetical) Attract mode order - Similar setting to control attract mode order rather than just random (add alphabetical, year, manufacturer options) Table Navigation Add a method to select a table quicker (rather than just navigate by flipper left right and magna save paging) Mentioned suggestions; Search feature when you press a letter/number it will goto the tables that start with the letter/number you press for keyboards Bring up a simple window with the alphabet and use flippers to scroll through list and select a letter and then jump to that part of lis It would be nice to see the additional typing supported. i.e. typing A, T, T, A quickly would take you to Attack from Mars. (note there is a plugin available that helps with this but i think(?) is more suitable for desktop users - https://forums.gameex.com/forums/topic/27744-plugin-search-game-plugin-for-pinballx-front-end/) System Navigation Can the "quit" button be used to first go back to the system wheel (when enabled) and only then when in system menu when pressing quit show the 'Exit' menu E.g.; If someone is playing a table, pressing the Exit Button should: 1) Exit the Table to the Tables Wheel 2) Exit the Tables Wheel to the Systems Wheel 3) Exit the Systems Wheel to the Operating System. Menu Items Make menu lists scrollable (when user has too many active filters to display on screen etc) Active Filters Only show filters in the menu for the current system (or 'all' system filters), if system menu is enabled Launch Parameters Add custom launch parameters (table level) in database xml, to append to or replace normal system launch parameters on table launch. Additional Detail Info Possibility to make PinballX show the additional details area on the Backglass (or other screen) VR Make PinballX VR aware by using an standard VR output so that VR glasses can use PinballX as front end as well Setup / Config Game Manager and PinballX to preserve additional/custom xml fields when saving Wheel Option for the current selection's wheel art and information to disappear after a being idle for a specified time. Table info & wheel could re-appear on any button press (except Select to play) Sorry if i missed a feature request or two out (it was a lot to go through). Hopefully i got all the main / popular ones and it's of use @Tom Speirs -
Yep.. @berk104 if you have the loading image plugin enabled disable that in pluginmanager (uncheck the box next to it) and then in settings.exe under General Settings set the Table Loading Media Mode to 'Use Loading Folders'.
