Hi ! I've made some tests here, and I discovered the following: You can start directly a game if this one is the ONLY ONE GAME in the folder PAK. This folder is on the openbor directory. So what you can do. 1- Do a batch file that copy your Openbor mod to the PAK directory. So you can make a repository folder with all mods that you have, and within GameEx list that folder. 2- In the batch file , FIRST you have to empty the PAK folder. This will garantee that only one mod is inside it. 3- Then make the batch file copy the PAK of the game that you want to the PAK directory in Openbor folder. 4- On the last step, start the openbor.exe. Hope it helps!

Hi Everyone! For those wich don't know , in my HTPC Setup I use GameEx and XBMC togheter. I know that GameEx has lots of the features that XBMC has , but I've choose this one because of the legacy that XBMC has to me. Since I use it from the times of the Classic XBOX. Anyway , when finishing my setup, I've needed a solution to let me choose wich program will I start. GameEx or XBMC. As my HTPC solution is fully shelled , and I dont use a keyboard or mouse to control it. I just use an Remote Control or PSX Joypads. So after LOTS of research in the internet , and LOTS of times asking developer friends to do it for me , I decided to do it my self. Well , just to be clear , I'M NOT A DEVELOPER! The only thing I know about developing somethig is using Batch Files ! So , after a video tutorial in YouTube I managed to do this simple program. The main idea is, You choose a program to start , it starts the program and closes itself. It needs dot net framework 2.0 to run. So if you already use GameEx its not a mather to you ! So , I'm releasing the folowing for those that maybe want to use it: 1- The Source Code (It was built in Visual Studio Express 2008) 2- The Image Files 3- The PSD Files containing the images in layers 4- The binary (.exe file) Some things to know about the program. 1- If you want to choose the "skin" you have to do it in Visual Studio. And compile it again. 2- If you want to choose the path of the programs that you want to launch, again you have to change it in Visual Studio and (guess what?) compile again ! For my needs it fully attends me. But if someone wants to change it and make a better program , be my guest! Link to download the files : http://www.mediafire.com/?wvqc8k0ek7wtc6o

My Copy arrived today. I've never been a such fan of Halo franchise , but I really want to try this one. So I've bought the game in my language ! Brazilian Portuguese. With voices in Portuguese ! Its good to have games on your natural language. Microsoft is doing a good job with Xbox 360 here in Brazil. But I have to finish Metroid Other M first !

Draco , about the diferent colors I didn't think about it at first. But now that you mentioned it , Yes we can do it! I personally have a preference for darker colors. For me its hard to make something with Green and Yellow (for example) that don't burn eyes! So that's why I prefer darker tones. If you have some color scheme please let me know. Thanks ! -

Hi Everyone ! Just a quick post to share an concept for a theme that im developing. Please tell me what you think. Concept 1 Concept 2 The main idea is : 1- Have a clear look , just using basic colors. 2- Be able to use a text based game list and a thumb based one. 3- Show a big video preview, but not so big (as my last theme) 4- This time I'm going to do an HD version 5- Good Font Visualization in SD TVs. About the picture 1- The TOP red bar , is reserved to GameEx menu. 2- The simbol [ ^ ] poiting up and down represents the GameEx list arrows. 3- I'm planing to put list numbers and date/time. 4- This is just a mockup that I did in photoshop. So PLEASE if you want to share some toughts please let me know ! I'm open to sugestions (better colors combination ?) -

Tom , just to send a feedback, it worked at first! Based on your instruction I did the following. 1- Disable GamePad exit on Advanced Emulator Config. 2- On the files customimput.ini I've set a strange value for joystick exit. Something like I had about 6 joypads! Now it's working! Thank You !

Nobody ? I saw GameEx 11.14 today. Can it address my issue ? Please , any tip ! I'm going crazy with this! The older version doesn't gave me this problem. Is there any way to FULLY disable the GamePad Exit on GameEx ? Thanks again !
-
Hi Everyone! I'm having LOT'S of trouble since I've updated GameEx to its more recent version (11.13). The problem is , I don't use the built-in function to exit a game with a Key Combination. But ever since I instaled GameEx 11.13, Disabling GamePad Exit doesn't seems to Work. At the first moment I've noticed it in NullDC, but after LOT'S of testing I've discovered that any emulator that I have , has this behavior. I've tested each emulator outside GameEx without any problem. But with GameEx started the gamepad exit works. In my setup I use Joytokey to send the esc comand. This command is maped to the button R3 on my PlayStation joypad. So when I turn the analog on , and then press R3 it exits the game. But with this problem , everytime that I press Left + Square + L2 + R2 (Or R1+L1 I don't remember right now...) it exits the game. I've already disabled Gamepad exit on Advanced Emulator Config , on the Gameex.ini and in every single "custominput" file. Plus I already modified manually the files within the folder "\GameEx\CONFIG\EMULATORS" disabling GamePad exit. But none worked. If someone can help me I will be glad! I'm pissed of because of this problem. Spent all sunday on it without sucess. Thanks to everyone!

Rychem28 I will try this command line for the memory cards. For me it's VERY usefull. I was concerned about how to handle when my epsxe memory cards became full. Thanks for the tip !

Matheus. For Mame , you have to compile it for Eventghost work. Search for "Direct Input Mame" in the foruns and you should know what you have to do. There is an Mame compiler that is very easy to use. If I'm not wrong this one is a Headkaze creation. I had to do It because I use joy2key to send the "ESC" command to close the emulators. And joy2key uses Direct Input, but mame "out of box" doesn't. So I have to compile it to enable this feature. About Zsnes just go to the config part, set keys. You will be able to configure up to 4 joypads. Save and Exit Zsnes. I really don´t see the point of using Eventghost to configure keys in emulators. Even in Null DC (Wich is only compatible with Xbox 360 joysticks) I dont use it. For this specific case I use XPADDER. So try to configure your keys BEFORE you set up GameEx. Use your emulation options !
-
Matheus. You should configure the keys individualy in each emulator. My setup is almost the same that you have. But I use GameEx+XBMC+Eventghost. For XBMC , I've configured Eventghost. For GameEx and Emulator control , I've configured each emulator individualy. So you have to configure each key in Zsnes , Mame etc. If you have any doubts please let me know !

Hi ! I've already tried it on my setup. It's a very amazing emulator , but on the other hand requires a good machine to achieve good speed. My setup is an Core 2 Duo 2,9 ghz , 2 GB RAM , GeForce 8400GS 512mb. And I played some games with a good speed. But the main problem is the LOTS of configuration needed for each game. And each game has to be configured individually. So I prefered stay with my Wii console.

Frequency, I've made the tests here , and it worked BUT I had to set the batch file to run in FULLSCREEN. Then I can see what I want. Worked like a charm ! Know I just have to add some "fancy effects" in my batch file ! Thanks !

fRequEnCy , I use a batch file , because my games are PackISO'd. So the process take up to 2~3 minutes. And I prefer look into something while I'm waiting for it! Thanks for the answer !

Hi Everyone! I have a simple question. To use PlayStation, Sega Saturn and Dreamcast games within GameEx , I've made an batch file to do the process of unpack, mount the game and start the emulator. I want to see what is happening during this process. So the question is, can I show my batch file during the process? In my actual config , I only see the black screen and hard drive activity. Wich is not bad , but I want something in the screen. Thanks !

Hi Everyone! Just a feedback. I've moved back to Windows XP. The Main reason is , My remote control (Philips SRM5100) Doesn't work properly with Windows 7. Everything went fine in the instalation and tests with emulators. But when I tried to use my remote, it doesnt work. As soon I finish my customizations on Windows XP, I will publish my nlite template. I slimed down Windows and services , so my Windows XP Boot is less then 20 seconds. With all drivers installed. Thanks for the reply.

Hy Everyone ! Recently I've acquired a new machine to run GameEx on it. I've bought this motherboard for my setup : http://tiny.cc/4t9q5 And with this little one , I've managed to put an GeForce 8400 GS video card. The main purprose of this Video Card , is enable my setup to run even on old Standard TVs, via S-Video or RCA Cables. The motheboard has a lot of great resources , like an SLI using the Onboard video and the installed video card. But all those resources are only avaiable in Windows Vista/Seven. So , after using it about two months with Windows XP and having a poor performance, I've decided to move to Windows 7. I've bought Windows 7 Professional. In my opnion is the most complete edition without all the fancy and eye candy present on Windows 7 Ultimate/ Home Premium. And it has a good price ! So I have some questions. 1- Does Instant Sheller works whell on it ? What Instant Sheller Hides on it ? I don't care about boot screen. (Acctually I love Windows 7 bootscreen!) 2- Does GameEx works good on it ? It has a better performance on Windows 7 or Windows XP ? 3- DirectX 10 (Native on Windows 7) will make GameEx better? 4- Any tip about problematic emulators ? 5- Should I move to MAME 64 Bits ? (I have MAME optimized for Core 2 Duo - 32 Bits)

Greetings Everyone ! First of all , great topic. I really like comparatives between two things. Let me share a little of my experience on this. I've already tried A LOT of programs for Media Management and Emulation frontend. My choice ? GameEx and XBMC. I've already tried Hyperspin , and at a first sight , it looks amazing. But as soon you start using it , the clutered interface gets annoying. (my opnion) And as everyone already said , It's a huge pain to configure. I never put it on my HTPC. Just tried it on my desktop. About the XBMC , I've choosen it because of the legacy that this one have. I use it since the times of the old Xbox. So, it's a program that I already know a lot about. I've already tried the GameEx for media management , and boxee , and Windows Media Center. But my final choice is XBMC. The same is for GameEx. It is easy to setup, easy to customize , powerfull even on old/low-end machines. My first GameEx setup was an AMD Duron 1,3 Ghz with 1 GB RAM and a GeForce 2 (64mb) and it worked like a charm for one year. Than I decided to build a more powerfull machine. And GameEx is there , running fast as it used to run on the old machine. So , it's my choice! Thanks Tom for your great software. About the themes , as already said , the community is getting more and more involved about it. I think if we start a project joining all the "theme builders" we can have something unique.

Hi Draco ! I've already tried the grid view in GameEx. And I didn´t liked it. At least in my setup , GameEx becomes very slow in this view mode. And my machine is a good one, at least I think it is ! (Core 2 Duo - 2,9 Ghz - 2GB Ram - GeForce 9300). But I only experience this behavior on videos with a higger resolution (640x480 , those are my PlayStation videos). My SNES video snaps for example are at the resolution of 320x240. So I use the SNAPs view. But I'm thinking about a new theme , dedicated to a classic list view. It's more fast ! -

Hi ! Awesome theme Draco ! Very clear and polished ! Congrats ! People. I'm interested in building a theme with video backgrounds. The main idea is to build a video mosaic , using some videos from games. So , in the SNES section of GameEx , the background will be a video mosaic with snes games. Here a quick preview of what I'm talking : I´ve had this idea while playing Capcom Vs. SNK on Dreamcast. I realy love the menus of this game ! -
Hi we1dont7die ! I´ve managed to do this in my GameEx Setup. A long time ago , someone pointed me to this topic. http://www.gameex.info/forums/index.php?showtopic=6131&hl=packiso&st=20 I didn´t used the FULL script , but this one helped me a lot to solve my problem. I used as base script , the one wich is in post #23. See if this one can help you. If not, please let me know ,and I will post my script here. Mine does the following : 1- Sends an "unmount" command to Daemon Tools (I don't use the builtin tool present in GameEx.) 2- Points the Packed-ISO to the packiso program folder (this starts the process of unpacking). 3- Then I send the command to daemon tools mount the cue file. 4- The last one is start epsxe by the command line. Assuming that you previously set the default cd-rom drive in epsxe, in that case the Daemon tools one. If you need help just let me know !

I'm comming back in few days! I've finished University tests and now I can have some free time after work. By the way I want to go back in my theme building works. I have some ideas that I like to share and discuss (Draco ). On the other hand , I have to share my little free time on my next HTPC for GameEx. Plus , I have to stick with up my fiancee.
