  1. I have a feeling it might be the ShowDesktop setting, but anyway here is my config for PC Games using shortcuts (lnk). [Emulator_1] Enabled=True StartPageName=PC Games TitleText=PC Games StartPageLogo=pc RomFilter=*.lnk RomsInFolders=False ROMPath=D:\Games\PC SnapPath=D:\Games\PC\shots WorkingPath=D:\Games\PC MapKeys=False WaitBeforeKeys= SendKeys= ReplaceDash=False ReplaceUnder=False Capitals=False RemoveBrackets=False AlsoLaunch= ShowDesktop=True Debug=False MapFile= OLDatZip= Command=[ROMPath]\[RomFile] TitlePath=D:\Games\PC\shots BoxPath= LaunchBefore= LaunchAfter= CartPath= configFile= ExcludedFiles= CustomBackground= PlayMusic= PCGame= DATABASE= Import= Export= GamesIn7Zips=
  2. have you got the latest catalyst drivers?
  3. Have you tried setting up PC games like an emulator, but using lnk as the file type, then just copy your shortcuts to the game into the rom directory.
  4. I've just put Mame 107 + GameEx 6.51 on my cab, and it's playing attract mode right now just fine for me. Hmm.. what command line parameters are you using, I'm usng "-video d3d -noswitchres -triplebuffer" Maybe you need to do an "Update List"?
  5. The following article explains how to compile Mame/Mame32 http://www.mameworld.net/mrdo/compile.html add the following in mame.c: /* ensure we don't show the opening screens at startup */ options.skip_disclaimer = options.skip_warnings = options.skip_gameinfo = TRUE; Just before: /* display the startup screens */ ui_display_startup_screens(!settingsloaded && !options.skip_disclaimer, !options.skip_warnings, !options.skip_gameinfo);
  6. Could you possibly post a screenshot of this? I need to know if this is a Theme Editor or GameEx issue.
  7. I think one of the best themes made by Amos was using a V2 Theme. A few people are using them, but it's still in it's early stages, some of the features in V1 themes arn't available yet like Windowed mode. You have to make a theme for each resolution, I think that is the same for V1 Themes anyway, the difference is that the custom layouts need to specify which resolution otherwise they won't display properly on a different resolution. There is probably some simple maths to overcome this, but it's not something Tom or me have investigated yet. I believe using ratios or percentages for layouts dosn't work, but I'd like to find something that does. Makes me wonder how Tom handles windowed mode with V1 themes. I hope there will be more things done with V2 Themes in the near future such as custom layouts for each emulator. This is when the V2 Themes will really come into their own. Also, I really need to write some sort of documentation to help people use the Theme Editor. For me it's straight forward and easy to use, but for others I bet it's a mystery.
  8. The only advantage is having a GUI, both Mame and Mame32 can be compiled as optimized versions for different processors. Probably better to use plain old Mame with GameEx. But I just use Mame32, I used to use Mame32FX because it has some audio hacks and a few other things, but it's not being supported anymore. There is a Pentium Pro optimized version of Mame on the official Mame site, so I recommend you use that if you have a Pentium processor. I compile my own versions to remove the disclaimer screens.
  9. Finally the Mame32 version of Mame has been released. http://mame32qa.classicgaming.gamespy.com/
  10. You can try out the Generic Artwork Renamer if the names are similar enough. It dosn't always work great, but it might be worth a try.
  11. It could be an introduced bug, I'm not sure.. here is part of a FAQ on BOYAC regarding this, just double check it's working outside of GameEx, so we can identify if this is a GameEx or Mame issue.
  12. Well, the program called PPJoyKey can be used to convert your CP button presses to joystick buttons and movements, so there are more arcade friendly games out there than you think with the use of this program. Two which spring to mind, and are favourites on my cabinet are Virtua Tennis (which can have 4 players using a 2 player CP + 2 wireless joypadx + PPJoyKey program). The second PC game I really like is Lego StarWars - excellent for 2 player CP gaming but it needs a fairly decent machine to run. For more ideas visit the Game Review Forum over at BYOAC.
  13. I remember Microsoft doing questionaires before about what features users of Windows would like the most, and faster bootup times was consistantly one of them.
  14. Read this thread, you may need to add some of the new command line switches.. I think either Category 2 or 3 for your case.
  15. While in Mame press the [TAB] key and make sure all your controllers are set up in there. If not you will have to go through and assign all your keys and/or joysticks.
  16. Welcome back Tom! It's nice to see you got some well deserved time off even if it was only a few days. I can say there has been some great help and support from the regulars here, so everything has been running fine. Still it's nice to have you back, obviously some things can only be addressed by you though I don't think you will find many posts with zero replies.
  17. I hope Tom fixes this with V2 themes, hopefully so that there are no benefits to using a V1. I'm curious how the two types function differently in GameEx to make resizing so difficult. I don't see how hard coded values could differ that much from values stored in the ini file. Obviously there is something going on that makes this difficult.
  18. BTW Emphatic your running an older version of the Theme Editor, check out the Theme Editor sticky at the top of the forum, attached is an exe to a newer version. Hopefully the save bug has been fixed. About the MameBak and Bak image files, we will have to report this to Tom, it seems he's having a break so we'll have to wait until he surfaces again and let him know. Nice work there btw Amos.
  19. Yes it does suck, but you can turn it off in your profile. Unfortunately you will still recieve e-mails from the replied topics that your already subscribed to. You can turn it off for each individual thread your receiving mail from.
  20. Wait for VSync should be set to Do Not Wait.
  21. I found another save bug today, this time it was quite suprising, I had no idea GDI+ locked image files when you opened them and wouldn't close the file until you did a <object>.Dispose(). It's ridiculous what you have to do to get around this problem. GameEx Theme Editor v1.61 - Fixed another save bug (GDI+ file lock) - Changed a few visual features ThemeEditor.zip
  22. I don't think Tom has added the ability to use an external player yet. I do believe it's been requested before though. Maybe in the near future Tom will add it.
  23. Perhaps you have a damaged or incomplete ROM. ClrMame should be able to do a CRC check of the file and tell you if there is a problem.
  24. I don't suppose your gamepad has the option to switch between the two? Mine have a switch that toggles the analog/digital pads.
  25. Go to the webpage of your motherboard's manufacturer, and download/install the latest onboard audio drivers. While your there update the inf and BIOS to make sure you have your basic system drivers up to date.
