  1. You can do all you ask using Tom's own Instant Sheller program.
  2. Hey nice, didn't even think it had a keyboard I have trouble with my mouse sliding off my CP if I try to use it on there
  3. Wish I had of made my cab a bit more curvy in design like yours Rusty. I'm still very happy with mine, I kinda went for the "authentic cab style". I also had to add an extra bit of bulk under my CP for the keyboard drawer but I wanted to be able to access a keyboard in mine. I love the side art and overall colour/look of it. The only thing I would have done differently is try to get those speakers in there some how. I notice there are two speakers on the side too. But the unfortunate side effect of having my speakers above the monitor is the slight discolouration on the corners of the monitor from the magnetic field. One day I'm going to rip out the old 21" CRT and put in a 21" LCD in there (when they're cheap enough).

    2 questions

    1) The only way to start up in your MAME list is to make sure you exit GameEx in the MAME list and have the following option set: Enable/Disable Features(2)->Show Start Page First->No The above option will start GameEx at the menu you were in before you exited. 2) The GameEx Setup Wizard is going to be released soon and it will allow you to change the order of your emulators.
  5. One thing you can do is change the font size to the largest. It should make using the touchscreen easier. Be careful of themes which override this setting in THEME\[Name]\Theme.ini. Display Settings (2)->Font Size->Biggest
  6. Wow!!! Love the huge screen and metallic t-moulding. Love the whole look! Got enough system buttons lol They would be handy as hell though. Maybe it's the huge screen or something but it has to be one of the best looking cabs I've ever seen!
  7. Hmm not sure how the multi-monitor support works with the CP Viewer. I'm pretty sure it would be easy for Tom to add an option to output the CP to the second screen. At the moment the only thing I am sure of is that you can output GameExtender onto the second screen. The options you may need are: Display->Run on Secondary Monitor (not sure if you need this one) GameExtender->Enable GameExtender->Yes GameExtender Viewer->Display on Secondary->Yes That at least will send the game info to the second screen. But as for making the CP go to the second screen perhaps we need a feature request to add an option to the GameExtender Viewer, something like "Show CP" or something When you say you "installed the program and opened it" do you mean the mouse driver software or GameEx. You probably don't need to install the driver for your mouse. I wouldn't bother installing the driver software for a mouse. Are you using your mouse with USB or PS2? I would use probably use USB, the only advantage of using PS2 is that the mouse works in Safe Mode. Why are you trying to set the "disable mouse" option when you trying to get the mouse working? I have no idea why your mouse arrow disappears when you use the scroll wheel. Just tried my mouse with the scroll wheel and works fine for me. I remember someone saying that MCE was very difficult to operate with his touchscreen on the front page. I don't know how well it would work in GameEx but as far as I understand them, they work just like a mouse (meaning they use the mouse APIs to simlate mouse movement and clicks) so I can't see any problem with it. Try my suggestions to get your mouse working (uninstall any mouse driver if you have installed one) and make sure your using USB.

    LCD Files

It would more likely be an lcd file which would contain text and embedded gif files. So I would guess the software that comes with the sign would be used to create the lcd files. And you rename them (as you say) for each game, <rom name>.lcd, and when the game is launched and lcd file exists it will send it to the COM port. Pretty much how you said it Atari which is how I would expect it to work. But I'm pretty sure it has it's own custom format called *.lcd. The bundled software may import gif's but will probably remove the gif header and place the animited graphic data into the *.lcd using it's own custom format (just a guess). But I don't think it would be hard to do at all. If MinWah can do it, I think we can too! If someone (who actually owns one and wants this incorporated into GameEx LCD Smartie) would do a bit of research into this and provide the raw methods we need to get this to work then it might have a chance of being added. I might even write class for it to save Tom doing it. We don't necessarily need code, since I have written a program to control a standard red led sign in VB6 a long time ago and I used a protocol document supplied by the manufacturer. If it really is as simple as sending an *.lcd file then that will be VERY easy to add. I've never looked at LCD Smartie but I doubt it uses a batch file to send data to the COM port. I've got some code here somewhere for controlling the COM ports in .NET, so it's probably a nicer way to do it.
  9. Ahh I see.. good call. Was ARCADE1 running at 100Mbit a typo? I assume your gonna have them both running at 1000Mbit. Really cool idea though, keep us posted about your progress with it. I bet people over at BYOC would be interested in this also.

    LCD Files

So what is needed to add support for this sign to LCD Smartie? As far as I can tell it's just a matter of sending the .lcd files through the COM port. Am I right? Sending text looks like it's just using ascii with some escape sequences for effects.
  11. I think you are referring to Unselected.png. If you make that image pure black it should become transparent. To do this in the theme editor go to the Object Browser and go to Selection Bar->Unselected. Then from the menu select Object->Adjust Colour. Then use the Brightness slider to make it black. Save and it should make it disappear.
  12. So are you talking about getting your two cabs to communicate over a wireless LAN so you can play 4 player games across two cabs. That would be awesome! I don't know about the latency issues, a game like Streetfighter is pretty fast, running that over wireless might be too slow. I would consider getting an CAT5 cable with two high speed 1000 Mbps NIC's to connect the two cabs. In fact you don't even need a router with two machines you can run a CAT5 cross-over cable and have them directly connected to each other. Or am I missing something, do you want to run this across the Internet too?

  14. I think Tom will probably add this soon (with so many feature requests it must be hard to decide what to add next!). It would be nice to get the MameWah importing going. We'll have to wait and see I guess

    LCD Files

You can check out the software that comes with these signs here I wonder if MinWah would be kind enough to share his source on supporting this sign?

    LCD Files

Judging by the the basic source it would be easy to send text to this kind of sign.
  17. I just bought 2 x 2gig Sony Memory Stick Pro Duo from EBay for a very good price. A place here in Perth was trying to sell me one for $160 (AUD) but on EBay I found official Sony ones that are hight speed (80Mbps) for $80 each! I havn't checked out Mame for PSP, but I wouldn't imagine it supporting many games. But I see what your getting at, it would be cool to have a menu system like GameEx that will allow you to run all the different PSP emu's from one program.

    LCD Files

What you need to do is contact the company that makes the electronic sign and get a communication protocol document that details how you communicate to the sign via serial. Once you have the document it can be decided how difficult it would be to add support for the sign.
  19. Why would you want to have GameEx on the PSP? I don't think the Mame emulator for PSP runs many games, but mainly the GameEx source code is specific to Windows using a language that is specific to Windows (.NET). Coding on PSP requires all the display routines to be in OpenGL, this is completely different to DirectDraw. But apart from the technical drawback I still don't see why you would want to have GameEx on PSP. I do have a PSP and a suppose a cutdown version would be okay for a menu or something but it would have to be totally re-written from scratch.

    coin counter

Basically it was a program that ran in memory and allowed you to press your credit buttons outside Mame and it would count the credits. Then in Mame if you pressed the Start P1 or P2 keys my program would drop a coin in then press the start key. If you put in credits during a game my program would count them, and say you had 3 credits dropped without using them, you could exit the game and start another one and those 3 credits would be available by pressing the P1 or P2 start keys again. It just counts coins all the time and allows you to carry them over to multiple games.
  21. With your high end setup I have no idea why an old AMD would out perform it. You can try a few things though, compile a P4 optimized version of Mame (mingw32-make.exe P4=1) and make sure you have the latest stable version and use the new Direct3D options (-video d3d -noswitchres -triplebuffer).
  22. FYI I have written a program that will display the key code when you press a key on the keyboard. Funnily enough it's called KeyCodes. The program displays both Virtual Key codes and Direct Input codes. GameEx uses both types and they are completely different: CONFIG\scancodes.txt (Direct Input Key Codes) CONFIG\EMULATORS\VKCodes.htm (Virtual Key Codes) The CP viewer and emulator configs use Virtual Key codes while the custominput.ini uses Direct Input key codes. So be careful not to confuse the two.
  23. You probably need to update your Mame list as the newer versions of GameEx uses list caching to speed things up. There are obviously many new features since your last update, so it's hard to know what could be causing the issue. Tom often turns on new features by default so perhaps it is a new feature causing the problem. But I would try updating the list to refresh your data files first.
  24. Read the forum rules. No ROM requests please.

    coin counter

Unfortunately this is a feature that will not be available in GameEx period. I released a util called CoinDrop which allowed you to drop coins in at anytime and it would allow you to pass them over to multiple games in Mame. This program is no longer available for download because it caused too much of an issue with the community including Mame developers. Please don't bother asking me for it either! The problem is that people can abuse this type of software for commercial use, in a "multiple game" arcade machine that works using real credits. It's been discussed before and I can assure you it won't be a feature introduced into GameEx.
