for vertical or horizontal games there are always going to be vertical bar, just not as wide on a horizontal game. (For a 16:9/HD screen)
-
OK, I think I have "something". With the following code I get an "image" that is 16:9 aspect and correct vertical and horizontal screens...BUT instead of being a bezel image, I'm getting white diagnal lines across the screen. So now it seems to be work, but it doesn't know what the image is or something. <!-- bezel.lay --> <mamelayout version="2"> <element name="bezelh"> <image file="mameh.png" /> </element> <element name="bezel"> <image file="mamev.png" /> </element> <view name="Vert Bezel Artwork"> <screen index="0"> <bounds left="375" top="0" right="908" bottom="720" /> </screen> <bezel element="bezel"> <bounds left="0" top="0" right="1280" bottom="720" /> </bezel> </view> <view name="Horz Bezel Artwork"> <screen index="0"> <bounds left="165" top="0" right="1120" bottom="720" /> </screen> <bezel element="bezelh"> <bounds left="0" top="0" right="1280" bottom="720" /> </bezel> </view> </mamelayout>

I disabled the mouse on my GameEX, I only use a joystick or remote, so on mine I don't even bother with that top menu, that's allowed me to pushed the date and top so high up there to make room for the images and a larger scroll menu, but if you use the menu I would honestly just edit the ini to put the date and time at the bottom there is plenty of room down there under the arrows.

You can extract them anywhere you want, but under Controller Path, you put the path WITH filename there. (i.e. C:\Sega\Control.jpg) You need the filename otherwise it will look for a specific controller for each game, this way it opens the image for every game in the emulator. Do this for each emulator.

My thoughts <view name="Bezel Artwork"> <screen index="0"> <bounds left="375" top="0" right="908" bottom="720" /> </screen> <bezel element="bezel"> <bounds left="165" top="0" right="1120" bottom="720" /> </bezel> </view>

Gotta love VNC...hmm I should probably be working while I'm at work, oh well. <!-- bezel.lay --> <mamelayout version="2"> <element name="bezel"> <image file="mame.png" /> </element> <view name="Bezel Artwork"> <screen index="0"> <bounds left="140" top="0" right="500" bottom="480" /> </screen> <bezel element="bezel"> <bounds left="0" top="0" right="640" bottom="480" /> </bezel> </view> </mamelayout> <!-- - Artwork type: Bezel - Homebrew bezel by Tom Speirs - Lay file by Mr. Do -->

Right now the Bezel images don't work at all, they are made to fill the entire 16:9 screen which GameEX doesn't seem to let you do. The Bezel images are 16:9(1280x720) with a 4:3 and 3:4 middle for Horizontal and Vertical games.

I thought I'd make an actual Thread for the theme and any changes I make to it, so I'm not constantly uploaded to the GameEx main site. This is a 16:9 Aspect Theme meant for HDTVs, it will work on 720p and 1080p TVs and monitors and anything in between(i.e. 1600x900) I'm only using GameEX for gaming so nothing was created for Music or Video. There sounds for movement through menus, but they don't seem to be working, they are included and if anyone can get those working, be very appreciative. ConfluencePort v1 Download ConfluencePort v1.0 ConfluencePort 1.1 adds bezels for MAME and controller images for emulators. (Bezels currently do not work but controls do, let you know as soon as we figure out the code.) Attached - Here is the .1 of 1.1 so you'll need to download both the attached and the download link at the top, and you'll probably have to rename the bezels. Controls.zip ConfluencePort_Bezel.zip

does -noka maintain the aspect ratio (4:3 for most) or does it force horizontal games to 16:9?
-
I wanted to create a bezel that would fill in the entire screen of my HDTV. When I created the vertical bezel for MAME it seemed to crop it to 4:3 on the tv and place the image inside. Is there a way to make the bezel reach the edge of a 16:9 screen (1280x720, 1600x900, 1920x1080)? I included some pictures to help explain. the red square around the bezel is to help show where it is on the screen, sorry for the crappy pictures, I VNCed into the computer from work so not the best quality. I tried the -noka command (I think) and that only stretched the screen to the entire HDTV which seemed to look a little screwy

Alright, it happened to be because I had video and images in the Snap folder. Once I deleted the videos from the folder, the images showed up...Is there a correct way to do Video Snaps for emulators(non mame) that I looked over?
-
No nothing is slowed down, it doesn't seem like it's lagging anywhere or stuck. But in the menus except the specific game menu, No images. I attached some screen shots to better explain.

This is rather strange how this is working. On a few (not all) of my emulators the Box Art and Snaps do not show up in Image1 and Image2, In the All Emulator list and the specific emulator list...BUT, if I click on the game to play and it gives me the menu of Play This Game, Title, Box, ect.. as I scroll down to the image options, it shows the images. So what it comes down to, is that the Art is connected and can be viewed in the last menu before playing the game, but not in any other menus. I've also tried this with multiple skins, and also manually relinked the Art in the Advanced Config, so that doesn't seem to be the reason. Any thoughts?

i just know i wasent able to run ogm files or mkv files with game ex, (or with windows media player) but with MPC you are able too. (there is also a version of this that comes with windows media player called mplayer. you can find it in c:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\mplayer.exe, and even that will play files that windows media player won't, kinda strainge since you would think they would both be able to play the same stuff)

I've been noticing lately a lot of post about errors with the video playback for everyone. I don't really use game ex to play video, so I don't know really know what everyone is going through. Just an idea for maybe implementing a new video player (or optional) in game ex. Its called Media Player classic, its free software and played almost any video format as long as you have the codec on your computer (i.e. DivX, XviD, AVI, MOV, MPEG1/2, RM. Built-in MPEG2/SVCD/DVD, MKV, OGM) I'm not sure how the video works now, but this would be at least maybe a nice option, to choose to play the video file through this player, and it offers many more file formats. Just an idea I thought Iâ??d throw out, let me know what everyone else thinks. http://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=Media_Player_Classic

Ya it dosent get much easier then that...not sure why I didn't think of that.

So since Iâ??ve been working on my arcade project I have obtained A LOT of roms for each console system (NES, SNES, GEN, 32X, CD, Jag, ect...not talking about MAME, but console roms) I have, unforently I have so many roms for each system that it is a pain in the ass to go through them all to find a game I want. The only way I have them sorted is by system. I know itâ??s (mostly) impossible to sort my genre or something but what I would like to do is sort by country. Be able to just see the US games, or just the Jap once, and I think Europe is out there also. In each of the file name there is usually a letter to correspond with the country (i.e. (U) us, (J) Japan, (E) Europe). Is there anyway for GameEX to sort through these letters and sort them into country? And for the time being, dose anyone know a file managing program that might be able to do this for me? Move any files that have (U) in it to another folder (same with (J) and (E)). I would be fine with just the US roms but with 14 DVDs full of roms, I really don't want to go sorting through them. Side question: I've noticed a lot of the same roms with different ending on them [!], [h1], ect...dose someone know or is there a site out there that explains what means what, and which one is the complete and final rom? Also that might be another good option for sorting... Just a thought

I've never had a problem with my GENS, so heres my code if you want to use it, change it, whatever. This really isn't a question about GameEX but this is probely one of the more helpful forums i'm part of so I thought i'd try here first. Where can I get the box art for the console emulators? I have it for N64 because they came packaged with the emulator for my xbox, but thats it.

As Iâ??m building my arcade box, I realize that I want to navigate through the menus of GameEX with my trackball. The trackball is connected through a PS/2 interface, so it acts like a mouse. Although I know you can use a mouse in GameEX but it acts like a mouse with an arrow and you can move it all around (duhh). I was hoping that there way a way to make the mouse interface at more like the direction pad keyboard interface. So when I roll the trackball (mouse) up or down in only moves up and down on the selectable items or games, not all over the screen as the normal mouse dose. I hope this make sense. And for me I have 3 separate buttons that act as the Select(Enter) button, Back(Backspace) button, and Exit(Esc) button.

the way yours looks is great. (my opinion)I think the way it should be done is to create a theme folder for how you want it to look, kinda how themes are set up now, just this time add a few more files to the folder for each background image of the emulators.
-
ok, ic... have the image of the controller as part of the background image, instead of an image put on the side. the only issue with that it seems to be that everyone has a different controller setup and that it would be easier (for most people, that dont have something like photoshop to edit backgrounds) i think it would be much easier in the config menu for each emulator to add a controller image option, instead of changing the entire background which would pritty much have the same effect
