the update system works fine for me, although it looks like its hung at stage 1/2 .. a progress indicator would be nice please Tom if you get time. also interesting, that it's different from running an update from the installer - the language setting for example is kept (good!).

its not just MAME (sorry i mislead). restoring to gameex is *always* slow for me (i count to about 10 usually, can time accurately if that helps?) i tried turning the save cpu option down to 0 to see if that would help - doesn't. gotta go to bed though eh, l8rz edit: but i should say, i terminate all apps by just having Escape key Exit the app, and waiting for GameEx to notice. (a natural exit, i dont use remapping or force closing or anything fancy). gameex does reliably restore, it just seems to take that extra time. the machine is not busy either - no background tasks taking cpu. i wonder what its doing!

nope i have no radio setup, but i do have ambience.mp3 playing.. ah i've just been travelling and stuff, away from the htpc (and computers completely for a while, w00t) now i have to put more time into pj64 aswell, its been coming on ok without me though

thanks yeah another thing i should know: how do i exclude CHD (hard disk) MAME games from the MAME list (without using verify option) about (2), the way my scripts work is dangerous if gameex crashes because it keeps trying to restart it. theres always a danger of gameex startup failing if something goes wrong with directx, that isnt your fault. edit: actually ive just thought of a way around it, i can look for ShowLog.exe, so its cool and the most played list is fixed now after deleting some files in \data, not sure what fixed it, but something in the upgrade didnt like my old data.. so yeah things are working pretty well thanks, main thing is hoping for some faster re-appearing of gameex..

another Q, this is not really worse than 5.xx? not sure, but it takes so long to restore to gameex after exiting a MAME game.. about 10 to 15 seconds - feels like a very long time with a black screen (system is not slow: Athlon 3000+, 512MB RAM, Radeon9550 Catv6.1 - just upgraded the hard drive and CPU) edit: this is not just MAME, its slow to restore from anything.. just noticed it with MAME more because im trying different games a lot. is there anything i/you can do to reduce this delay this please? its kinda embarrasing when other people are watching which settings might make a difference? i have the save cpu option on 8.

heya ive been away for several months, cant believe how many update there've been! a few questions please, that arent really related to each other sorry. 1) i forget how can i clear the most played list (and other stats that gameex keeps?).. selecting Most Played gives me an empty screen and hang. sometimes it hangs while actually doing the transition into this screen. deleting gamestats.ini does not solve. 2) when gameex crashes on start, then you press the clost/exit (i forget what it says) button, it seems to run the OnExit now. could we have a different line in the config for exiting after a failed start.. onCrashExit for example. i want to not do what i normally do on exit, instead i might want to restart the machine etc. 3) does the installer try to redownload the themes every time? it seems to (i know can uncheck the option on each update run but can you make the installer detect that the themes are already there, save you some bandwidth!) 4) when i select the Custom v2 default 1024x576 theme (that is my res), gameex crashes on start.. any ideas why this would be? other themese seem ok, im just curious will probably have more Qs so i'll add them here as things come up if that's ok. anyway yeah gameex coming on great, so many new features (got to find out how the karaoke works!) thanks

is there any way to add blank lines to the start menu? edit: n/m, found a way to fake it like this: Enabled_19=True name_19=" " path_19= (some path) cmd_19=donothing.bat snap_19= showdesktop_19= mapkeys_19= WaitBeforeKeys_19= SendKeys_19= but make sure donothing.bat contains something like "sleep 5" (or ping if you dont have sleep.exe) or gameex will never restore if someone selects the blank item!

thanks Tom, looks great and on an (almost) completely unrelated note, just got lle gfx (n64 rdp) in pj64 wooo (zilmar been busy for a few days couple of things: like the new glossy theme, it has higher contrast on the green for the tv, i think. the please wait thing.. it's not actually any slower is it?

just tried 5.45 exe, confirmed problem with this exe, haven't replicated problem after 8-10 attempts.

ok i will update back to 5.45 then use this exe brb edit: well, we can't get it to *not* restore now, using that exe. it was not restoring after every long play, not sure how long. will keep trying a bit. did you change anything? i assumed that was just a logging build? this exe attached seem to work fine, so far anyway. thanks alot. sorry hard to be precise as not sure what the factor was, if it was length of time played, which game or something else?

yeah runitgame.bat was blank (empty) apart from the @echo off i'm stumped.. mame is launching fine. what can cause this? yes gameex is still running in task manager. machine is in use but i can make them wait if you need the config edit: 5.36 seems ok! not sure yet there was a proper command line in runitgame.bat after exiting KOF2002 and it restored fine that time anyway edit2: yeah 5.36 seems to be restoring ok. hmm what to do. this is why i update often, so if something gets broken i can report it fairly quick. only here i seemed to have missed something between 5.36 and 5.45 :/ sorry. my mame command line is: MameOptions=-triplebuffer -nowindow -joy erm ShowGameInfoPage=False /me scratches head. what else do you need to know? please ask yeah its MAMEplus 103 but i really don't think that's the issue because MAME is starting and exiting fine?

MAMEplus 102 or 103 ,can't remember which. 103 stable (not u) i think i will try runitgame.bat next time this happens no i have no runafter for MAME (or any other app afaik) no its not leaving a command window open.. mame is quitting clean, gameex is running but not restoring. edit: 5.44 same, trying 5.36 edit: runitgame.bat is BLANK, just contains: @echo off what does this mean please? ok more info: this only happens after playing MAME game for a while. if you start and quit a game quickly, gameex restores fine.

gah. not restoring properly. people tring to use it and it won't come back after quitting MAME. what can cause this please? edit: i think it restores the first time you quit, not the 2nd. then gameex has to be restarted. edit2: gone back to 5.44, will report if any better last time was really using gameex was 5.3x, it never didnt restore

(was like they are part of background - no highlight) yes Tom, turning on media controls fixed it so: why does turning media controls off disable those others? is a bug surely?

just noticed that the back green arrow, the about ?, the green x on the top right and the exit button on top right all do not work, clicking them with the mouse does nothing. what could cause this please? the X on the top left (return to start page) does work. the up down list arrows do work. the buttons at the top right do work when selected with the keyboard.. this is exactly opposite of what i want, want them to be selectable with mouse only. help, what have i done edit: tried changing themes, didnt help. can't see relevant control in configurator. config app also messed up my font sizes.. reverted to previous .ini gah btw this was same problem in 5.36 and 5.44 . not sure when it started. im getting worried my config is messed up and ill have to start again, which will take hours

P.S. to the above.. maybe just auto-send backspace key so users can see gameex transition one up after exiting the game... might look cool. something else i was going to ask for was ability to turn play game screen off on per-app basis, either because some systems have no extra info installed or for use with dirmap apps like my picture viewer. obviously only send the one-level-up key where the play screen is being used. possibly also a return to main menu option instead of one-level-up (this isnt already in is it?) P.P.S possibly put an 'Add to favourites' *icon* on the right of the last played game's menu item.

this is interesting, but my machine is so small ill need to buy an external tv tuner lol. so maybe one day, its not on my plans atm due to having sky+, but when/if i ditch sky+ it could get very interesting..

i VNC into my gameex machine and it never crashes (shouldnt say that but heh) not sure what i'll use this gamextender (clever name btw) and cpviewer for but ill give em a go later.

yeah it has a noclones option: NoClones=True now i have a q: when you have gameex not showing clones like this, how does gameex decide which game to show? it seems purely random, or what am i missing?
