Radeon9550, i think i'll be giving d3d a go. just gotta update all those files.. argh rom update 106>107 seems to be only about 58MB.. so does this really look better than old video system? any issues with MAMEplus! GCC + GameEx ? edit: current catver seems to be here http://www.progettoemma.net/?catlist thanks update: quick observations: - like the new rom loading information - (mameplus 107) UI is very unstable for me. just right clicking the ui crashes it every time - d3d video: it seems you must have bilinear filtering enabled or you'll get stretching artifacts. and all the effects (Scale2x,HQxx etc etc.) look bad, probably because of the order things are applied in. so for now ill run with just bilinear filtering. could go back to ddraw of course but arent there some advantages of d3d?

not possible AFAIK 2 things you can do: 1) set up mail filter to delete the mails 2) ask Tom to fix/change the forum. since he's running latest version of IPboard, it probably need some php hack or something.

yeah it's disappointing - to see this discussion. i'd lock the thread after the first post and tell the person to come back when he's got a clue about what he's complaining about, AND lost the 'tude, or not come back at all. it's not even worth you good people responding to something so confused and rude. if someone's just trolling, don't give the satisfaction of a response. you can be too kind imho.

is Microsoft going to sue GameEx? yeah, it does look like, to people who don't know about this stuff, a bought (Should i say: big company produced?) product. is that bad? maybe change the default colour scheme a bit. like red on blue. the Green/Blue has strong MS associations. if the sounds really are ripped from MCE you should change them for the sake of changing them imho. i think its not "l337 hacker"/warez looking. i guess that doesn't fit in with all the warez people are launching from it. or something edit: but of course, isn't the point that it fits into MCE for people who use it within MCE?

Tom i've been trying variations of those settings for a long time, not noticed that much dropin cpu usage. i'll check again later perhaps sleep should be on some medium value by default.
-
the problem i have with this is that it makes my system run hotter than it needs to be - AMD CnQ cannot kick while just doing nothing on the gameex menu. yeah, seems like it could use less cpu?

that is Game & Watch. i used to have Squish. it would now be worth something, which is annoying because then it wasn't. now how is this on topic?
-
same here - but ive turned autoupdate off because its not good for ordinary users to see the prompt. (still hoping for manually triggerred update check by key combo please tom) edit: or a small icon on the start page

appears to be every time its started.

nice idea, but the gameex config must be done in conjunction with the emu config. simple example, if i set the emu to Exit on escape, then disable mapkeys in gameex. since we (gameex) can't get the emu configs right (without lots of work like writing ini/reg editor for emus) i don't see this working reliably. and if it doesn't work reliably, is it going to help? not sure -
"No more not returning to GameEx." eh i havent seen this issue for a while. but thanks for anything that makes that more reliable, cos this is about the #1 showstopper for frontends if you could just get the return a leeeetle bit faster that'd just be lovely (even if it meant turning some graphical effects off, i'd be up for it).
-
ok 1) putting all the emulators on your desktop is a bit weird 2) test each emulator with command line before you try to start it from gameex. theres no point trying to start from gameex until youve got the emu starting, going fullscreen and exiting properly on its own. your PJ64 config, youve added "" around the ROM bit... remove them.

heh, i was thinking about doing this, it's needed, but i don't have time. i may be able to submit some info.
-
mine is set like that - i dont think it works
-
yeah one of the reasons (amoung many - if it was just this id filter it!) i gave up on my old email address is this board i asked before, seems you can turn off notification for each thread i think but thats useless... it defaults on. if there is a global option i cant find it.

Tom thanks v much for reading - but i'm not seeing difference with 6.29 exe sorry? what have you done thought of something else simple: an option to remove those two buttons at top right might really help. -

yes that's the #1 problem ive seen ive given this some more thought, i think the neatest solution is to let us set a time in milliseconds that the input has to be held for the cursor to move out of a game list (left or right, basically). im guessing somewhere in the 500-1000ms range will be enough, but i'd like to experiment (on children, naturally anyone have better ideas? here's another idea: have a different sound effect for moving to a game vs moving to a gameex control. that could help navigation too? -

ive been watching kids using gameex, and navigating the game lists is just too hard and error prone.* people nearly always end up moving right onto the gameex icons for "return to start page" and "exit" (and they do not know what these do). (i have to shout at them not to press anything). as it stands, the only thing they can see how to use is the up and down arrows on the bottom right. stuff like "hold button 3 and press right to jump letters" is just too damn hard for normal people to understand/remember. its never going to work. i don't know exactly how to fix this. its quite major. some ideas: 1) restrict movement in the lists to one dimension - up and down. maybe require something like a quick double or triple press, or hold for period of time, to move out of the game list left or right. the basic point is that it needs to be harder to slip out of the game list than moving within it. 2) put favourites for each system at top of list? favourites as its own item on the homepage is not being used, because people are already being pushed into thinking in terms of systems(consoles) from when they first see gameex. 3) maybe put a list of letters across the top so people who like using mouse can click "d" for games beginning with d .. people seem to like the mouse, even though we know its slower, they like it! perhaps there are other ways to improve mouse navigation like modulated scrolling speed or (Revolutionary!) scroll bar! 4) allow substring searches. this is a big feature i know. so if they want "super bomberman 2" for snes, they go to SNES and type "bomb" and its narrowed the list as they type... a common search feature in many apps. maybe even have this global across all game lists. 5) maybe put something on the exit button so pressing once does not exit, nor pressing several times on the same button. e.g.: press once, a prompt comes up saying press something else to exit. those are the first 3 things i can think of, will try to add more later. other ideas? some of these are not stupid kids either. its just awkward and i know can be made better. this is not a criticism theres nothing buggy about gameex, its just a human-machine thing. * hell, if im drunk or silly its too precise for me either. -
(gollum voice) i wantz it, i needz it, my precious

hmm, well just looking at the Live page, its obvious the screenshots arent working right at all - completely the wrong games and art coming out. hmmm? but some are right.. so i dunno whats going on
-
maybe the log should say what its about to do, then whether it did it ok

yah forget it, n64 (c. 1996) seems about the limit for a while, and perfect (as say Nestopia?) maybe never

http://www.act-labs.com/scripts/proddetails.asp?Pid=132 "Works on most TVs with S-Video or Composite Video-in connections" "S-Video to composite adapter" i need something that works on a 100Hz TV with RGB input.. do i get the feeling this product doesn't exit? i wont run the video signal through any kind of adapter and ruining the quality. (what's a VGA gun box?) im thinking possibly i need a monitor version - if they support interlacing! edit: sorry for hijacking the thread i just was thinking about lightguns the other day gerble1000 wants one for CRT which i know exist, the problem with PC guns ive seen is most are terrible quality. it needs to be accurate and durable.. i guess buying a console one is one solution, but then console guns arent likely to work on progressive scan CRT monitors? :/ and most need 50/60Hz ordinary CRT TVs aswell. is there a site that specialises in lightgun technical info anywhere anyone knows>?
-
anyone know any reasonable quality lightguns that work on a 100Hz TV (in NTSC mode i think that's 120Hz)? anyway its a double scan AABB TV. the few guns ive read the boxes of claim to not work on these :/

the first time i saw gameex doing that freaky mouse moving i nearly freaked out it works here though, with extra large fonts and windows classic style
