  1. What do you mean exactly by "games ive deleted"? If you deleted them from the HDD, then they are already gone, so that must not be the problem. If you are deleting them from the GameEx list, then they shouldn't show up if they aren't physically there. I guess I don't know what you need scripted so I don't know how to help...
  2. Determining the rom set version requires the use of a program like CLRMAMEPro. It goes through each rom and builds the set for you however you ask, but I believe it will also report what version you are running. I don't use it, so I can't help with that. There are 2 easy ways to see what version of MAME you are using. 1) right click on the mame.exe file and select properties. Select the version tab and it will display. This isn't always available. 2) open a command prompt and navigate to the MAME directory. Type 'mame -help'. This will display a line that gives the version info up at the top of the output.
  3. Yes if you use a loader. I wrote MAME_Loader to do just this task. Here's the topic that contains all the details and the script itself. http://www.gameex.info/forums/index.php?showtopic=5232 The alternative is to use MultiMAME. I think MultiMAME is a better solution, but it's a lot harder to get going. http://multimame.wikidot.com/
  4. Hit ctrl-alt-del, start the task manager, select the applications tab, file -> new task (run...), explorer. This will start the standard windows desktop for that session. If I understand correctly, that's what you are asking for...
  5. There was some discussion about it a while back, but when we tried to incorporate into GameEx things got a bit sketchy. Turns out that the MAME Devs are not fans of that hack and suggested we not continue working on the project. I don't remember all the details, so perhaps someone that remembers better could fill in. Anyway, I think the resolution was that we were not to discuss it here. Maybe I'm wrong...
  6. Yup, this is an issue with mismatched rom set and/or your filters. Just update your rom set to the same version as MAME, get an older version of MAME to match your roms, or use CLRMAMEPro to build a set based on the version of MAME that you plan on using. Note that the latter option will result in ~300 roms which is what GameEx is reporting...

    Weird stuff!

The reason you have the numbers in your list (.01, .02, etc.) must be because GameEx is reading you catver.ini as a custom folder. You need to check that. As for the Neo Geo roms...Yeah, since the change was made to MAME in regards to neogeo.c you will have to update all roms to 0.128+. I haven't done it yet, but that's the fix as I understand it. Either use MAME 0.127 and old roms or 0.128 and get the new roms. Your choice...
  8. If you want to save some space, you should check out how many rhythm games have been released in the CHD's lately. I think by removing just those games from my cabinet, I cut the total MAME rom/CHD set in half!
  9. Which version (singular)? I actually am currently running 3 versions. I use MAME Analog+ 0.90 for my rotary games (the last version that was released). I use MAME 0.117 for gun games (the last version that will support WinGun). I use Zinc and Model2 for Sony and Sega games. I use MAME 0.125 for everything else (just because I haven't gotten to updating in a few months). There have been a lot of changes to MAME since 0.106, but there's not a ton that you would miss out on unless you have a high powered machine. I think the biggest thing is that the CPS3 games are now available.
  10. I agree this is probably a power setting for something going into an idle mode. If you use XBox controllers, for instance, you will find it hard to get them to come out of idle. What do you use for controls (mouse, keyboard, gamepad, etc.)?
  11. GameEx calls the command line for any app/emulator you configure...period. For MAME, the command that is used is set in the MAME Options section of the Advanced MAME settings. I personally recommend deleting that line and using the mame.ini file. If you specify things in GameEx, you can get it to work. Either way, GameEx runs exactly the commands you can find in the "Run Last Game.bat" file in the GameEx Start menu. If that works outside of GameEx, then you should be golden!

    9.76 Help...

I don't know your experience level, so don't take this as belittling. Basically a false positive is when the AV software determines that something is a threat when it isn't. The result could be a warning or just a blocked file depending on the settings in your program. I'm guessing that Kaspersky detected a virus-like signature in that file and blocked it (which is what you also said). My guess is that you either missed the warning or the warning didn't pop up due to a security level the software is set to. Either way, I would personally consider the AV app blocking access to a non-virus file a false positive even without a warning message...

That'll teach me to quote when I reply!

  17. I turn the cab on and watch it. Isn't that considered 'playing'? It looks good and if I don't touch it, I can't break it! No one would want to hear me sing, so I don't even have a mic. Think William Hung type talent!

    Weird stuff!

I think it's what you meant, but I read it slightly differently. I figured I would try rephrasing what you meant so that I could totally confuse the issue!
  19. I am pretty sure GameEx only sends 'okokokokok{enter}' for MAME. I don't think that is sent for Daphne, but I could be wrong. I've only played with the laser disc stuff a bit (nowhere near enough to call myself knowledgeable). Check the "Run Last Game.bat" file in the GameEx Start menu to see what command line GameEx is using. Compare that to what DaphneLoader is using and report back.
  20. I think part of the reason the interest wasn't as high as it should have been is that there's not a very good source of info for how to code a plugin. Also, I'm not sure what features could be implemented since I don't understand what hooks the plugin system can use. I think if it were better understood, then there would be more interest. For example, I think a 'password' protected feature would be really nice (think mature games or movie ratings for example). The plugin could simply pop something up and ask for the 'password' which would be a combo on cabinets before letting you procede. That's just my take though...

    Weird stuff!

I think it's the catver in your custom folders directory not controls.ini in the favorites folder. If you put stuff in your favorites folder and start up GameEx, you will have imported all of those games into your favorites list. I did that with catver.ini once and had to start over with my favorites! If updating MAME and your roms to v0.128 doesn't fix it, you could try posting your gameex.ini file.

    9.76 Help...

I didn't say Avast! was the best, but it is the best free AV that I know of. I'm not familiar with Kaspersky, but that doesn't mean anything. I was just surprised that the first time I did hear of it was twice in the same day in regards to problems with GameEx. That's all... Anyway, hopefully the AV developer can get the problem taken care of or else Tom can clean the virus off of his

    9.76 Help...

That's the second problem today related to that specific AV program. Did Tom contract a virus or is that AV program really picky and reporting false positives? Btw, I recommend Avast! anti virus if you want to try a different one. It's free and includes free automatic updates to keep you up to date. Just a thought. Glad you got it fixed!
  25. I don't think it's so much that noone cares about your topic as it is that noone plays karaoke?!
