  1. Water cooled is a good thing if you can keep it from leaking. I haven't looked into it since the first generation came out years ago (there were horror stories about leaks, so I never pursued it). BUT, remember that even with liquid cooling you must get the heat out of the cab somehow. Just putting the heat in the liquid doesn't help in the long run unless it is removed. If it can't get out, then the liquid won't provide a large enough delta temperature to provide adequate heat transfer. I could post all the equations, but I'll leave that stuff at work and keep this for fun
  2. Well, I'm not a huge fan of the look of T-molding, but I'm definitely not a fan of nicks in edges and corners either. I think both look fine personally. I guess it just comes down to making sure you are a bit more careful moving a non-T-molded cabinet. Same for paint/melanin. I don't really like melanin since it tends to look a bit cheap compared to other choices, however it does make a fairly durable/maintainable finish compared to painted finishes. Either way, it looks really nice and any buyers will surely be pleased!
  3. Just curious....Why do you need to edit all of your configs by hand? I have the defaults set in MAME and only have to edit a game here and there. The only exception is 5 and 6 button games due to decisions I made early on. There are many other ways around it, but that's another story. Anyway, I don't think there should be that much manual setting required.
  4. CNC rules! I wonder what one-off CNC would cost locally...hmmm. Oh, quick question. Why didn't you opt for melanin coated MDF rather than the raw MDF? seems like if you don't have any fasteners on the outside with your design, you could save a step during assembly and just apply some side art (if desired). Ok, one more question. Do you route for T-molding? It looks like you are rounding the corners, so I assume that's not an option? The reason for T-molding isn't for looks so much as it is to avoid damage during moves. You have come up with a REALLY nice package. Cool stuff!
  5. Cool beans! I'll definitely check this out when you release the final. Thanks for all the effort (even if it is primarily self motivated ).
  6. You can do it manually from within MAME by hitting F12 as I recall. I've never used the feature built into GameEx. I personally just grabbed the extras set that includes snaps, titles, marquees, cabs, pcbs, etc. Since most places that host these downloads also provide links to roms, I can't post a place to get it. However, they are in the standard places...
  7. If you use the setup wizard, there is actually a tool that will take your keyboar input and figure the out the scan codes automatically. You don't need to use the old method unless you really want to.
  8. You had it within 100ft of your house, so at least you were able to check it out, right? It'll work out and now you get a free story to tell your guests.
  9. Any chance this will be released in 4:3? 1024x768 would be great!
  10. One excellent source for info on a wide variety of tools is the Hydrogenaudio forums. Among other things, they are the host for Foobar2000 support forum. http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/ I've found quite a bit of helpful info there that I used in fixing my media collection.
  11. Album player looks nice especially if you use that as your player/jukebox software. If you are primarily interested in a solid music collection database management tool, I would still opt for MediaMonkey. BUT, I don't use it the same way you are, so... I have my collection on a file server and use MM on my main machine to get everything organized. I primarily listen to it on my Creative ZVM, so I don't concentrate on the playback quite so much. Oh, one question about AP: can it run scripts of any kind? In MM I can create new functionality (well, I can't because I don't know how, but...) because of this capability. For instance, I have a bunch of titles for some music that is all caps or all lower case. MM has a script called "Magic Nodes" that allows you to build lists of ANYTHING you want (if you know how). I had some help creating a couple lists for each case and manually fixed what needed fixing. If AP can do that, it would be just as good IMO. Just curious.
  12. Agreed. I really like it, but I wouldn't use it on my cab for a couple reasons (not 4:3, too high resolution, more of a multimedia type thing rather than game based). I really like it though. If I were running GameEx on a HDTV for a media center, I think this would be a good choice.
  13. I'm not sure if this is or isn't against the rules actually. I thought versions of Daphne > 1.0 were Digital Leisure's releases and included a download tool right in them. I'm not really familiar with it though, so I'm probably wrong. Btw, my first take was that this was against the rules, but decided not to comment since I wasn't sure. Ehhh....
  14. I've been meaning to try out EncSpot on my old mp3's to see if any of them need fixing. I have a few that seem to stop early which is likely due to junk data in them. I've heard that Foobar2000 can fix this kind of problem, but haven't yet done anything about it (not high on the priority list ATM).
  15. That's a registry file, so you should be able to just double click on it. If that doesn't work, you might try renaming it to ".reg". Alternately, you can open regedit and import the file. GameEx appears to be puking on the main database. I don't know why it would be a problem though.

    Help!

Sounds like you need an AHK script to stop Windows hotkeys from firing.
  17. MediaMonkey is by far the best audio organization program I have used. It has tons of capabilities built into it, plus it has an extensive scripting language and very active forum so you can do pretty much anything even if the program doesn't do it natively. MM can do everything you mentioned above.
  18. No, I totally agree. I was just saying that when someone gives a time frame for a fully custom job, that's basically a hopeful guess. If they knew they weren't going to make 6-7 weeks, they should have said so. Blowing past that by 6-7 weeks is WAY beyond what they said, so I would be pretty upset too. The only other point I was throwing out there was that if you made a bunch of changes to the initial design after they started, they may have been set back and thus the schedule would have to slide. I don't know if that's the case or not, so... Anyway, hopefully it will show up soon and you can enjoy the cab instead of stewing over the ridiculous delay(s).
  19. Yeah, but if you built it yourself, you might not be done now and (based on what you described going into your cab) you could have spent around the same amount in parts, shipping, and time. I personally enjoyed building mine (well, converting anyway), but if that's not your thing, it can be hell doing it yourself too. Just as an example...I just retiled my kitchen back splash. I personally considered it a royal pain in the arse, but there are contractors that I could hire to do it and they actually enjoy the work (and get paid well for doing it). To each their own... Anyway, custom work can't be put on the same time line as standard production work because one-off stuff is always subject to supply and other unforeseen changes. That said, 6 months does seem a bit long unless you were constantly making changes to the design. I think I saw your cab pics over at BYOAC and it does look nice!
  20. It looks like you've got a lot of paths that are invalid in your emulators. It also looks like GameEx isn't happy with the databases for some reason. Perhaps you could try disabling the databases and fixing your paths first, then seeing what happens.
  21. I'd been meaning to try the add roms feature to get pong, but hadn't played with it yet. This will be nice so I can just copy & paste. Thanks Lawrence!

  23. There was a change in the way MAME produced the game info in 0.131u1 or there abouts. As a result, GameEx wasn't playing nice when it updated. If you use MAME >0.131 then I think you need to update GameEx to above 10.12 or 10.13.
  24. You can launch GameEx with different ini files with the command line. So, your best bet for loading a different theme for different launches of GameEx is to set up a second copy of your gameex.ini file with a different theme specified. You could have two icons for loading GameEx (one default, the other with the extra command line argument added).
