  1. You may not be able to map keys in a given program, but with enough desire, ANYTHING is possible. In this case, you have a hard coded keyboard mapping which is a bit inconvenient to rewire for each emulator. I would suggest looking into using AI or AHK to remap the keys for each non-mappable emulator. I don't know AI, but for AHK, you simply use the following: a::z s::x d::c which will remap a, s, and d to z, x, and c. You get the idea anyway... I would suggest adding logic that checks for the specific program you are running too, then you can have a single compiled script running in the background and not have to worry about launching a specific one and killing it afterwards.
  2. I see the problem....he's drinking sludge!
  3. Actually, if you disable pretty much everything, you can have your menu look like that. You have to go through and disable all MAME categories (Zinc, Model2, Capcom, Neo Geo, etc.), Multimedia (Radio, Karaoke, etc.), non-desired shutdown methods (restart, exit to windows, etc.), and anything else that shows up that you don't want to see. Then, choose flat menus, and it will be just like you requested!
  4. Try downloading the official version of MAME, making sure it's the same version as your roms. It's possible the version you are using isn't outputing what GameEx is expecting when generating the list.
  5. Access to the back is a reciprocating saw away!
  6. Just a note: Standard definition TV's run at ~640x480 resolution (540i). High Def TV's can run at higher resolutions and/or refresh faster (540p, 720i, 720p, 1080i, 1080p). Unless you have a high def TV, setting your video card to a higher resolution won't actually improve your image on the screen, it will only adjust the scale of items on the screen (scaling basically). There are a lot of write-ups about TV versus Arcade Monitor versus PC Monitor already written. Not that we can't discuss it here, but you might find the information quicker at BYOAC since it's already there.
  7. Yeah, ROMLister is much faster than what I did and can create lists much better. Although it has things to select at the top, I found in my quick test that it was much easier to just write my own logic at the bottom to get more precise control of the list being generated.
  8. ROMlister does basically what I did except in a much better way. I could upload the driving games list, but I think using that software would get you better results. I'm going to give it a try!
  9. It was automanually generated I use Excel for pretty much everything these days, so I imported the controls.ini file into Excel and via some carefully selected filtering equations I was able to come up with a list that contained the game name and the number of buttons for player 1. This could be done for any other control if desired. I actually used this same procedure to filter the driving and spinner games.

You might want to go back and find some shielded 6x9's. It may cost a bit more now, but in the long run, it could save you the cost of a new monitor AND new speakers...
  11. I have my cabs shelled out and have run into this problem in the past. I had a random problem that would cause my system to lockup and require a hard reboot. When it started up, GameEx would start right away and delete the old log file so that I wouldn't be able to see what broke. The solution I came up with was a script that would check to see if the computer shut down nicely the last time and, if not, it would copy the log file to another location for inspection. This worked very well for what I was trying to do. If this would be helpful, I could post my AHK script.
  12. I've worked with the controls.ini in the past to come up with a list for each number of buttons. I don't remember how old it is and it relies on everything being present and correct in the controls.ini. Anyway, here's what I came up with. It's setup to be a MAME32 compatible file, so you can put it in your customfolders directory and next time you update your list, it will show up too. Not that it matters, but this was originally written in an attempt to help configure 5 and 6 button games quicker since I would know which ones they were straight away! Buttons_Per_Game.ini.txt
  13. Neo Geo...
  14. I don't have an answer for where to go in the setup wizard off the top of my head, but I have 2 suggestions. 1) Launch the setup wizard and use search to put in meaningful search terms like "movie" or "startup" 2) If that doesn't work, open up the GameEx.ini file in the c:\Program Files\GameEx\CONFIG folder and search for the movie that is playing. If you don't know what file it is, open the log.txt file in the c:\Program Files\GameEx\LOG directory and find it. If you can't figure out which one it is (it should be obvious), post your log file and someone can find it in there for you. EDIT: Okay, I just launched the wizard and put in "startup" for the search term and the second item was "Video/Movie Settings". If you go to that tab, you will see 3 settings. The 3rd one is the directory where the startup movie(s) is located. If you don't want a startup movie just delete the path.
  15. Just a note, I use the SD snaps, not the HiQ ones.

    Gamex Updates

I have no clue what that file is trying to do. If you don't either, just delete it (or move it) and move on...

    Gamex Updates

Just a thought, but your file is borked! You shouldn't have that extra space after: [Golden Age]=C:\... It should be [Golden Age]=C:\...
  18. I've been using the Blue Snap theme and it works fine.
  19. You either need Access or an Access database viewer. Someone listed a good one in a thread quite a while back. It allowed for viewing AND editing the db.
  20. I have v0.123 roms and if I do a 'dir *.zip' I end up with 7018 files. I suspect that Brian is right in that GameEx is also listing bios. You should probably be checking the box for 'working roms only' anyway since there's no need to select a non-working game. Of course, the problem there is that some games are listed as non-working, but play fine. What to do...what to do...
  21. Spoonch: Open a DOS prompt (start -> run -> cmd) and navigate to your roms directory. In that directory, type 'dir *.zip'. This will report the total number of roms in that directory. That *should* be the number reported in GameEx and MAMEUI. If I had to guess, MAMEUI is filtering some out at this point. The total you should have can be found by checking a number of different places. I suspect the easiest would be to check the number of files wherever you downloaded them via your torrent manager (or whatever you did)...
  22. Yup, I don't do images that often. When I actually clicked the button, it asked for a URL. Once I saw that, I immediately remembered that I actually upload them like normal files too. My bad
  23. Just use the 'Insert Image' button and give the dialog the location of the image. I use screen print + mspaint to create the image and then the above to display it.

    Speakers

There are a number of people who have gone the cheap route that doesn't require an automotive/home amplifier. I don't have the thread available, but I found a guide at BYOAC that was pretty good. Anyway, what I did was use some original shielded Atari 4.5" (maybe 5") speakers that were installed in a SF Rush machine and replaced the same size but unshielded speakers in my Championship Sprint cab. I took a 2.1 PC speaker setup and gutted the two satellites for their connections and the amplifier board. The speakers are the wrong impedance, so this could cause long term damage to my Atari speakers and/or my amplifier, BUT, at the price (free for both) I figured I'd give it a try. The results are really pleasing. The subwoofer is decent and the speakers provide a pleasing sound. I wouldn't spend a bunch of money on this setup, but if you have stuff lying around, this is a nice way to go.
  25. Does this happen with all files or just select ones?
