  1. First off, whenever you have a problem that results in a crash, you will get the best help if you include the log file. As for your error that you are describing, it could be nothing or it could be something. Depending on your system, it can take a LONG time to build the list. On slower machines, I have heard of it taking 30-45 minutes. On my machines, it usually takes on the order of 20 minutes. When it's building the list, it will give you cues to tell what's going on though, so I wouldn't consider it a 'hang'. If you watch, the thing that takes the longest is verifying the roms. It will give you a number to show how many it's gone through, so as long as it's changing, things are going ok. The things to check are: * paths (roms, mame.exe, etc.) * same version of MAME and roms * make sure you are using a modern version of MAME (older versions used a different format for outputting lists) * make sure that if you are not using the official MAME release, that your version is compatible with MAME's verify roms capability. If you don't know, try using the official release...
  2. As long as you have DX 9.0c and .NET 1 and 2 installed, you should be good to go for running GameEx. If you want to use video snaps for your games, you also need to install the codec that the videos use. Some features also require the FFDSHOW codec, so if you are using those features, you need to install the one either in the download section, or one from a good codec pack like CCCP (it's safer to use the one off this site because Tom has checked it extensively). If things don't work correctly, you will get helped quicker and get actual results if you post the log file. Without it, people will just be throwing things out that could be related, but doing so blindly. As for the snaps etc. for DL, I don't think you will get a link posted because the only place I'm aware of also hosts roms. Posting links to sites that host roms is a BIG no-no here, so...
  3. Perhaps you could PM kenclops and ask him if he still has those videos to start with. He had done sets for all of the popular consoles and a few of the lesser ones. I think there were something like 12-15 in his set. I was actually waiting for him to post a link, but it didn't happen.
  4. Actually, there have been a ton of those threads posted recently. There was actually a huge thread about setting up Zinc and getting controls set up right. In my opinion, Zinc is the hardest emu to set up correctly just because of the video and controller plugins let alone the fact that you load games by numbers rather than a rom name...
  5. Registered users don't get a different version of the program, so there's no reason to hold off. All you get is some new features that make some things a lot nicer (automatic updates is awesome)!
  6. There are a few that don't show actual game play. I know that kenclops created a huge set of these, but I don't think they were ever shared. If he reads this, perhaps he might consider creating a rapidshare download or something so that others can benefit from his work. Other than that, I don't know of a better set than the emumovies collections.
  7. If you have a picture you want to use, just enter the name of the image (png or jpg) in the 'Logo' field. As long as it's in the theme directory you are using, it will load up just fine.
  8. If you set up an advanced emulator config, you can set up a key combination to exit on. By default, this combo will send ALT-F4, but it can be changed if desired. There are other ways, but this one is easy and built in.
  9. I'm not in your area, but you might also ask on the BYOAC forum. I imagine there's a lot more people over there since it's made up of all users, not just this front end. Good luck btw.
  10. Hit 'TAB' in MAME and go to the general controls menu. Set up the controller however you want and it will be persistent for all other games that don't have custom settings already. If you want to start over, delete all the controls files for MAME first.

    AVISNAPS

Remember that it depends on what codec your snaps use. If they use DIVX or XVID, you would need a different codec pack than FFDSHOW which is what GameEx requires by default...
  12. Broken link? 500 error
  13. You could always opt to use XPadder to convert your gamepad input to keyboard input.
  14. I don't use the DVD feature in GameEx, so I could be wrong. But, I think the codecs GameEx uses are all setup outside of the program. So if you want English language and Spanish subtitles, you would set that preference in the codec and GameEx will just use those preferences.
  15. Those 'M' logos took some time since the image inside was not just thrown in. The portion of the image that would look best was picked out specifically by hand, so I'm not sure taking the 'title' or 'screen shot' images, centering, and masking with the 'M' would produce the results you want. Give it a try, but I would be very surprised if it turned out the way you're hoping... Nice idea though!
  16. Do you really have 1271mb of video memory? That seems weird. Perhaps SLI?
  17. Just based on the text in the picture, I'm guessing that you press up/down to scroll through each letter. When ready to move on, you press the select button. So in this case, he would press up until he got to 'M', down to 'A', up to 'R', etc. The only question is whether it resets to 'A' after each letter. I like it! My only question is whether this searches ALL roms (MAME, NES, Genesis, etc). Selecting MARIO, it looks like it pulled PC-10 games (MAME) as well as some SNES and NES games, so I'm pretty sure that's a big YES!!!
  18. Well, it's not possible to have the same video play like you are suggesting. If you wanted it to have the same video for every game, that would be possible, but not the other way. Now, there is supposed to be a V3 theme getting released at some point. I don't know what features will be added, but perhaps you could have a stationary video in the theme. If so, you could just not put any preview on the theme and have a single video play in the theme itself. Anyway, if that's something you want, you should suggest it in the features request thread cause I doubt Tom has considered that (and even if he has, it doesn't hurt to have it suggested...).
  19. If Vista installs like all other windows discs, you just boot from the CD/DVD and it will take care of everything. I personally would choose to format the drive during installation (delete partition, create new partition, format using NTFS). That way you know that it's a clean install with no fragmentation or residual problems. I suppose you could try using the "repair installation" option first, but I find that that creates issues down the road sometimes. On the up side, *sometimes* you don't have to download drivers again, but that isn't always true. IMO, it's better to just format and deal with the drivers.
  20. No, there is no way to do this right now. I suggest you add a feature request.
  21. I wouldn't call it a bug, but the default may not be accurate. Those default settings are supposed to get you close pending close inspection to make sure everything is set up correctly.
  22. That's a good thought. I had some problems when I used SpyBot and one of it's add-ons (perhaps it was called Tea Timer). Try running without either anti-virus package and see if that helps.
  23. Post the whole log file.
  24. That would make it a race to see whether the emulator can save before GameEx kills the process...
  25. Are you trying to use the GameEx escape to exit an emulator or does escape normally exit those emulators the way you have them setup?
