That's cool. I was just curious because the offlinelist stuff looks very hodge podge to me. I was about to start downloading when I realized it would take a bit of time to due based on the naming convention you used for the files. There's nothing wrong with it, but if you had done something like "nes 001.zip, nes 002.zip, ..." people could have used a bulk downloader to grab everything. Like I said, no biggie, but I didn't have the time yesterday to get into it. Thanks for the effort and for sharing!
  2. That's messed up!
  3. I wanted to go into more depth, but I guess it's good that I didn't since all of the numbers I was *going* to quote were way off.
  4. Killer Instinct is notoriously poor these days. I heard (probably from Brian) that you have to use an old version of MAME if you want to run it correctly without a super powerful machine. It's not one that I run, so I can't say. Basically, I doubt your machine is up to the task with the demands of the emulator.
  5. ...and make sure the names of the roms matches either no-intro or good(whatever).
  6. Yeah, the categories will only show up if the roms match the list. If you are using a non-standard set, then it will require renaming to match. The roms need to match either no-intro or good(whatever).
  7. I think that's an endorsement, right? Maybe that could be added to the main front page and/or submitted to MAMEWorld for their testimonials about this FE so others will know how good it is.
  8. If you select the correct database during setup, you will be able to filter by category like you do in MAME. Also, if you are registered, you will have access to the new search feature Tom rolled out earlier this week so you can do keyword searches.
  9. If you select the correct database during setup, this information will be available to you. If you are registered, you can also use the search feature that Tom just released to do a keyword search.
  10. 2) I searched my MAME directories and couldn't find anything to do with sharp.png. There are some of those that are related to overlays (like cross.png for gun cross hairs), but I don't know about that one. 4) Sound issues where the audio stutters is usually related to having -triplebuffer in your command line (default in GameEx). With a 1.75GHz machine, I would highly suspect that being the problem. Go to the Setup Wizard and navigate to the MAME settings where the command line is located. Remove -triplebuffer from it. You should be good to go now.

Are these better than the OfflineList stuff? I downloaded a crap load of that and couldn't get it working, but there were tons of images available. It sounds like these were all hand picked, so I imagine they are better. Correct?
  12. If you have your buttons connected to a joystick, you will be able to use XPadder to dynamically convert them to keyboard input. This works quite well with pretty much any emulator (except MAME with it's newer raw inputs).
  13. Did anyone notice the first error? I don't know if that's the problem or not, but it's definitely saying the resolution is not good... I would look at trying a different resolution/theme. It appears that GameEx doesn't like setting that theme to the resolution that you are running at.
  14. I know there has been a feature request to have multiple versions of MAME (actually, requested MANY times). I was just wondering, assuming that Tom is considering incorporation of this feature at some point, if this would be best incorporated as one or more MAME emu's setup as overrides. What I'm thinking is that Zinc and Model2 are probably hard coded, which is why this feature hasn't been incorporated. If a new system were incorporated though, it would basically do the same thing as those 2. I would think that the new MAME emu's could have a filter list used for an override so that all roms could (if desired) be held in the same location. In that way, you would just put together a text list for each rom that should be used for that version of MAME over the default. I am posting this just to see if this seems like a good approach or if it's completely stupid
  15. I PM'ed him. Hopefully that won't be taken as too direct. I will update this thread with whatever I hear back for anyone else who might be interested.
  16. Btw, MAME Analog+ UID is "u_rebelscum". Thanks!
  17. Cool, I'll give BYOAC a try. I didn't know if the author was still around since the derivative hasn't been updated in several years. HK: Yeah, I saw the diff and that's why I was interested. The main changes are to 4 functions that deal with the rotary commands, but there may be more. There is actually a modified source available from MC-Escher directly for version 0.56 and 0.63, but the Analog+ version claimed to include updates/improvements. I noticed how big that file was and knew that there was a big change to the inputs at v0.107, which is why I was hoping someone who had messed around with this stuff might take a glance. The updated controls is precisely why I don't know what I'm doing, actually
  18. To start with, I have a pair of SNK LS-30 rotary joysticks in my cabinet connected to a GP-WizRX controller. These seem to work fine in Windows, but play like crap in rotary games like Ikari Warriors. I've both read and been told that MAME Analog+ works much better for rotary games as well as most other analog control games. Well, I finally tried it today and realized what they were talking about. Here's the primary difference in relation to rotary control: Vanilla MAME uses two buttons for each player to control rotation. If you hold down the button, it will rotate 1 click for a given amount of time depending on how you have your controls setup. If you have the sensitivity set fast, it will swing around rapidly for instance. MAME Analog+ uses the MC-Escher patch that changes these buttons to work correctly. So if you hold down the rotation button, it will only rotate 1 click. In an actual rotary joystick, 1 click is 1 button press, so this makes really good sense. Anyway, I can use MAME Analog+ that's posted on the homepage, but the only version I could get working was 0.87.2 (the newest is 0.90). I was just wondering if anyone out there might know how to take the diff that's posted on the MAME Analog+ site and strip it down to include only the MC-Escher changes so that it could be compiled into the current version with HK's MAME compiler? I tried putting something together, but failed miserably. In case anyone wants to help, the last version that made any changes to the rotary stuff is apparently 0.74.1, so anything after that would work for generating the stripped down diff.
  19. That's what I figured. If you buy the digital leisures DVD, you can use their auto setup tool that will automatically download the framefile for you. However, if you extracted your own laserdisc, then it will tell you that you don't have the right to use it. Effectively, they are saying don't distribute the framefile I guess...
  20. Like I said in the other thread, any frame file that you can find online will work since it will be the same for anyone who extracts their laserdisc. Just search google for "dragon's lair framefile" and you should find it pretty quickly. I don't know if the rules prohibit posting a frame file here, so until that's clarified, I'm not posting anything like that.
  21. You don't have a number followed by a string. In other words, you need to put the offset prior to the video name in the framefile. If you don't know it, set it to 0. I think Brian was saying it should be 151 or something though.
  22. That would be cool! If you did that, how would you handle images that were the wrong aspect ratio? I would suggest making black bars on the sides or top/bottom and center the image making it the biggest possible size.
  23. In the current version, you can select a different image file/boot screen to display during boot up.
  24. Hehe, I didn't read the last paragraph apparently. My bad
  25. That works if your video data is a single file, but if you have multiple files, you will have to go a different route, right?
