You can have two different configs of GameEx and launch them depending on which list you want. I think the easiest way to do this would be to install GameEx and configure it one way. Then, copy it to another location and modify the config of one or the other to the second setup. You would then launch whichever you need to get the list you desire. There is one other semi undocumented way. If you use the admin key combo, you can enable everything quickly. I don't think this requires updating the list, but I could be wrong. Also, I don't remember what the combo is... There was a feature request several people made way back when to have password protected lists for just such a reason (inappropriate games, rated movies, explicit music, etc.). I don't think it was interesting to Tom, so it's unlikely it will be incorporated.

It's a dude? I was just guessing it was Andrae and not Andrea (performers usually try to go with the exotic so the screw up spelling things on purpose...). Oh well.
-
Beer does the same thing and doesn't require cleaning your glasses!
-
Maybe, but you apparently know who Andrae Bocelli is, so that's the first step in being a fan.

Again, the advanced emulator config files that contain the multi key combo exits do not do anything for MAME. If you want to verify that, move those files to a different directory or just delete them and launch GameEx (make sure no other emulators point to those files or it will likely crash). If you then launch MAME, I'm confident it will not change anything. If you want to try running the same game without GameEx to verify, you can also launch the "Run Last Game.bat" file. It will launch the last game played exactly as it does from GameEx. I can't think of anything that would cause this exit other than MAME crashing for some reason or your buttons are somehow mapping to a combo MAME itself uses. One thing you could try is using a key sniffing program to tell you what keys are being received by Windows when you hit certain keys on your gamepad. Perhaps something is mapping to 'Escape' for some strange reason. Do you by any chance have XPadder, Joy2Key, or any other gamepad remapping software running? Perhaps it's kicking in unexpectedly? If this were a bug in GameEx, I would be very surprised it hadn't been found yet. I'm sure it's something else though...

The exit combo doesn't appear for MAME games because you can't use the Advanced Config files for MAME. There is no need for it though, so this isn't a problem. In MAME, you just change the 'UI Cancel' button from 'Escape' to whatever key combo you want (even multiple keys).

Make sure you tell MAME to use joysticks. I think you need to add -JOY to the command line. I don't recall what it is cause I just set it in the MAME.ini file. Find where it asks what inputs you want enabled and put a 1 for joysticks.

Another option is to mount the drives in windows to specific locations. For example, instead of assigning a drive letter to a hard drive, you can tell it to mount in C:\Emu\PS2\Roms for example. I don't know for sure if it will let you mount more than one drive to the same path though. That would probably confuse the system where to write files to. You can always use multiple drives and set up multiple copies of the emulator with identical settings just pointing to different rom dirs. Then, tell GameEx to combine those emu's in the list and POW! You have all your roms in one list without all the muss and fuss of editing CUE files.

That sounds like you have MS sticky keys enabled. It's a "feature" that's supposed to help if you hold down the key for a very long time. I don't like it and always try to disable it. It's under accessibility options in Windows if you want to take a look.

I don't run the jukebox, so I don't know for sure. However, I do remember there being talk about doing just that a while back (preview image only without text). I can't remember if the feature was added or not though. I can suggest two things to you. 1) Install GameEx and give it a try! I'm sure you will find it acceptable even if it doesn't look exactly like the image. 2) Wait until someone who does use the jukebox answers. They would be able to provide exact details.

I think this has been answered in the FAQ here or at BYOAC. But, yes, you are running into hotkeys triggering and doing undesirable stuff. I personally remap my keys so I don't use ctl, alt, win, tab, shift, space, enter. However, if you really want to keep things as they are on that front, I believe you TWEAKUI can turn these off. I know there was a topic about this a while back, so perhaps given a more rigorous search you can find it. If you do, please post a link in this thread. That way we can get it added to the FAQ for future reference.

Since I'm at my main PC now, here's a compiled version. Quit_Combo_Script.zip

1) Yes, if you have melanine on both sides of the material you use, you won't want to use glue as the primary means to hold the cab together. You have a couple options though: * Use single sided melanine pointing the raw side inwards. * Use a router to cut a bare spot in the melanine. If you do this, you can actually have slots (if you cut 1/4" - 1/2" deep) which add structural support, a place to glue, and a nice reference during assembly. * Use bare MDF and apply laminate to the outside afterwards. This gives you more options for finish color and means you can build the cab a bit more "dirty". In other words, you can just screw through the outside into your braces and not worry about it showing up since it will be covered. As long as the surface is smooth or at least countersunk, you will be good to go. Either way, MDF and melanine both produce TONS of dust and are a pain in the arse to keep your work area clean. On the up side, they cut like a dream and finish REALLY nice.

I think the PSX set was over 700GB, so I would imagine that the PS2 would be more. I think there are less games for PS2 than PSX, but they are DVD's rather than CD's, so...

Install XPadder and set it up to control the menus how you want.

Maybe delete any embarrassing songs from your computer? Seriously though, this sounds like a bug that will require a fix. Thanks for the report. Tom will probably need more info in order to fix it, but he will have to ask the specifics.

You can check MAWS to see if a game's status. It looks like it's listed as "Imperfect" which usually means it's perfectly playable but it has some inaccuracies (colors are wrong, timing isn't perfect, etc.). I think I've played Point Blank, but I don't remember how well it worked. I haven't been able to use my guns for about a year now (too cheap to buy a new drive and reformat without a good deal on the drive).

A lot of people just use vanilla MAME. AdvancedMAME was written to improve the display on arcade monitors and TV's, but it hasn't been updated in a LONG time. I have never run an arcade monitor, so I can't say how much of a difference there is between these two builds, but one reason derivatives die off is that the code gets incorporated into the vanilla build. I guess I would personally say get a few that you are considering and fire up the same small set of games in it to see what the differences are.

There's software available that will download a list of files based on your parameters. One example is DownloadThemAll! for Firefox. This will require a bit of effort in this case cause it doesn't use a list, it uses regex type inputs. I hear there are others that might work better, I just haven't used them. Check out this list for a few to choose from. Here is a comparison of the features. I used a program called mp3 wolf back in the day that created a list of available mp3 downloads from a specific site that you input and would let you select which one(s) to download. I suspect a robot like this would help grab all 7000+ PCB images for you.

GameEx currently cycles through all your artwork when hovering over a game in the list. If you have video snaps, you just have to wait till after they finish. If you have GameEx setup to display the game info page, you will have a link to directly view any of the items (marquee, title, snap, PCB, cab, etc.). This proposed addition would just be more items for the list.
-
You sure the battery didn't die? 2.5 hours of gaming could drain the battery pretty good!
-
I would think custom folders would be better. That way there would be: Title Path = Marquee Path = Snap Path = ... Custom 1 Path = Custom 2 Path = Custom 3 Path = I doubt more than 3 would be needed, but it's something that, if incorporated, could be easily expanded down the road if needed. Incidentally, if you opt to reallocate your title path, you can change what text appears so it's appropriate via the customize text section in the setup wizard. BTW, this would make a good feature request.

If your wireless connection is fluky, you might have the download time out. I used to have this issue, and it would crash things. Tom fixed it so that if it times out it just kicks back to GameEx instead. You have 2 options really: 1) improve the connectivity of the machine via moving the antenna or hardwiring it to your network (assuming it's not an ISP problem); 2) as greatflash said, turn off automatic updates, manually download them, and manually install them. I personally opted for option (1) to fix my problems, but it depends on your setup.

Good point. In order to view manuals, you need the manual viewer from the main GameEx site. Instruction cards would be AWESOME! Some games need a little extra guidance to play correctly. However, you might find the command.dat very useful. It works in HK's CP Wizard so you can see what the combos are for fighting games (primarily).

So you are basically saying: 1) Doesn't add any more games (other than hacked versions) 2) Doesn't work from the command line 3) Requires a custom programmed loader that isn't currently available 4) Requires time that isn't available Thus, "I don't wanna "
