  1. Awesome - thanks. I ran the res utility randomly found on ultimarcs site, and all is great. Thank you!! So, if I do the above, the settings will each be separately remembered for the next time they're shown? Quite doubtful, but I'll give it a shot... Last question - might just make a new thread in a day or so... I'm successfully using jnes, zsnes, and magic engine, but i'm having some problems with SSF (Saturn), and somewhat with jnes. I'm trying to 'remap' keyboard keys so that, for instance, L-Shift (button 1, player 1 on the j-pac) is remapped only in SSF to a different key, because SSF won't allow me to use Shift as a controllable key. I saw the bottom-most section in the map file, but trying even the simplest change didn't work and I know I have a registered version. Is there some reason those settings wouldn't work?
  2. Interesting - definitely realized that gameex.ini didnt seem to help me much and figured out how to create mame.ini. I then made sure switches was 1 and hardware stretch was off and it was immediately evident that things were looking great. I also made all bezel/artwork stuff set to off. The problem now is that certain games simply won't display at all or stretch differently etc. Does hwstretch need to be 1? And since the above worked, do I really need to run the file that manually creates the ini files for all of the games? I mean, its obviously changing the resolution per game already. If I do create the individual inis what happens when I want to upgrade mame later on? Finally - another problem is vertical games appear in a small resolution in the top-leftish area of the screen. What can I do to make sure these appear OK, without rotating the screen?
  3. Finally got this all hooked up with my cabinet! So it boots right up, no problems. I can see WinXP at 800x600, 640x480, etc...so I suppose I have one of the "better" monitors. What I don't understand is how to make mame play games at their default resolutions. I've tried a number of settings, but they all only seem to change GameEx's interface - loading a game in mame from the interface always looks the same. What do I need to do? I can't even find the mame.ini that they talk about editing on Ultimarc's site. I'm using the standard Windows command-line i686 mame straight off mamedev. No mame32 or mamewah or arcadeos, etc...
  4. So I currently own a J-PAC that is successfully collecting dust. Unfortunately, I won't have access to my cabinet for a while. In the meantime, my emu computer is coming along nicely, and I'd like to start using it more with a controller than the keyboard. I have 2x USB->Playstation adapters that bring in PS2 controllers as joysticks. Is there any software out there that can somewhat emulate with the J-PAC does? Particularly the "shift" functionality. i.e. - I'd like to get my joystick sending out 6 buttons and 4-way pad as keystrokes with one shift key, just like the J-PAC.
  5. Interesting - haven't seen a no-CD rom - I take it that's not a standard part of the mame set. Keeping it in light with the original tho - makes alot of sense! Will let it pass through - just wasn't sure if that'd mess something up. Thanks!
  6. Sounds to me like you sould just save up and buy a new PC. MAME doesn't require much - built a Shuttle that's doing an excellent job for $350 (+ArcadeVGA\JPAC cost however).
  7. Added *.cue as well. Very cool! Still a bit bummed about having all of the files in one folder, but ah well.
  8. Really diggin GameEx - have 6 emulators already setup and running perfectly. I LOVE the Daemon Tools implementation. I'm a bit confused about the CPS3 emulation though. Mame appears to support it, but when I load up SF3 it asks to "reformat" with the CD, etc etc., which I'm assuming means I'm missing something, so I cancelled it. I can't find much info about how to make this work. Do you have to use an external emulator, or can I play it straight off mame somehow?
  9. OK - did finally get it working with GameEx, but it requires the "unzipped" version. Worse yet, in my case I have mds and mdf files, and it required using the mds file. Worse yet than that, both of these files show up in GameEx as the title of the game, with no distinction between them (the first being mdf and the second mds) - so if I follow through with this methodology, every game will be listed twice. Any thoughts? I'm seeing ZIP_Decoder.dll in my SSF folder. Figured SSF would support zipped images, no?
  10. Read around the forums, but I'm still trying to get this to work. I have the latest GameEx, SSF 009 beta 2, Daemon Tools 4.10 and have verified the game works OK in SSF. 1) The CD images are zipped. If I unzip an image, mount it manually in DTools, then load SSF, all works fine. 2) Tried loading the same game from GameEx. I get no red-light in the bottom-right corner. Double-checked and DTools has mounted the zip file. 3) Back out of GameEx, if I mount the zip file manually in DTools, load SSF, the game won't load. No red light ever in the bottom-right corner. Odd... 4) Unzipped the cd image and removed the zip entirely from the roms folder GameEx is looking at. 5) Tested again with SSF and manually mounting the image - worked. 6) Lastly, tried loading the game from GameEx, I get the same problem. No red-light in the bottom corner. Double-checked and DTools has loaded the IMAGE correctly. WTF? Any thoughts?
  11. OK I'll set up with vanilla mame, but wait...as I had understood it, I needed the ArcadeVGA card so that this monitor would emulate the games without any pixel reproduction, etc - correct? I'm assuming I still follow all of the "ArcadeVGA" related items in the GameEx tutorials - i.e. setting the res to 640x288, and stuff like that. Let me know, because I don't want to damage the monitor. I'm also a bit confured with the order I need to load stuff in while reading some other postings around here. For instance, not entirely sure if I need soft15 or not. Pretty stoked because I just got a call from the shippers, and they'll arrive Monday. ArcadeVGA and JPAC will come later next week.
  12. Hey all - I'm getting ready to install GameEx with a New Astro City, ArcadeVGA, and JPAC and a full 0.125 mame set. The computer will be specifically for the cab and nothing else. I'm not entirely sure which emulator to use for MAME, as there are many that are "made specifically for cabinet monitors." Any recommendations? I'm noticing that GameEx has lots of options for AdvanceMame. Should I use that instead of the original mame? I'm seeing alot of issues randomly with this setup and am hoping people can pass along their experiences.
