  1. There was another thread about Kaillera and the basic just of it is that GameEx will not support features that violate the explicitly stated desires of the MAMEDev team. Kaillera has been shunned by the MAMEDevs, so there will be no support here. Networked gameplay does sound fun. Sorry...
  2. Your best bet would be to use the LED/LCD Plugin. I don't know if it supports this type of display, but it might be possible for HK to add support.
  3. I just wanted to post an update in my effort to get MAME to NOT pause when you hit tab. I have done a bunch of research into the code and thought I understood what needed to change. I can't seem to figure out what section of code is pausing MAME when you hit TAB though. I'm about to resort to randomly commenting out the pause call to see if I can track it down the hard way. I also played with adding a check to see if the config menu was active in the code HK created (based on what I posted above), but it doesn't seem like MAME has access to the functions where I am calling them, or they just don't work the way I was expecting. Either way, I've sorta hit a wall. I'll probably continue playing with it a bit, but I don't know how much more I can really accomplish without talking to someone who knows the MAME code a lot better than me (which is not saying much). So, I guess having a loop in the CPWizard code would probably be the best option? I tried using an AHK script to check MAME for being minimized, but it didn't work (I didn't give it much effort, so I could probably get it to work).
  4. For the most part, emulators don't use the advanced features of video cards. As such, I would generally recommend upgrading the CPU. Also, make sure you have enough memory to load the rom (some of those newer ones are pretty big). I would suspect 1GB is plenty, but 2 wouldn't hurt.
  5. I think it's bak.png
  6. What you are doing *should* add the game to your favorites list. The only question I have is whether you are using a different config file (not GameEx.ini)? If so, perhaps there is a problem with adding games to favorites via alternate configs. Tom will probably need to take a look at this to get it straightened out. I suggest you post a log file of you adding a game to the favorites (I don't know if it puts anything in there or not, but it can't hurt), and your GameEx.ini (or whichever config you are working with).
  7. I think I remember a setting to just use MAWS favorites in attract mode. I can't remember for sure, but there was talk about it. There may be a setting related to what MAME stuff you will see in attract mode, but I don't remember seeing it off hand (not that I was looking)...
  8. http://www.gameex.net/Support/DefaultContr...61/Default.aspx Also, you can use custom controls set up through the setup wizard or advanced config to use whatever keys you want.
  9. You can use the alpha/paging button to scroll through lists by page or starting letter. If you do that, then it only take ~27 clicks (or holding the joystick down) to get to the bottom of the MAME list.
  10. You can get rid of carts and titles if you don't set a path for them.

    Main Menu Icons

c:\program files\gameex\themes\<your theme name>\media\logos If you find one from another theme that you like, you can just copy it over to your theme's directory.
  12. I may have used the wrong exe, but this didn't seem to work. I'll have to work on this some more to see if I can make it work. I suspect that the function I tried to use to determine if the UI is active may not be available to that section of code. Either that, or the UI takes longer to come up than it does for the bezel mod code to run meaning that it's basically a race to see whether you will have the CP display or not. Also, I was testing with only MAME and CPWizard running (no GameEx, scripts, XPadder, etc). When I exited the CP, it minimized MAME. It looks like there may need to be a tweak in the CPWizard code? If I can do anything to help diagnose the problem, let me know.
  13. Yeah, you have to set up that emulator in CPWizard. I believe there is an entry for Project64 to start with, so I would use that as an example. I haven't done it yet, but it shouldn't be too difficult...
  14. You can't. If you want to view a CP for an emulator, you would be MUCH better off checking out CPWizard. It's written by HK and has a lot of support right here, so it would be pretty easy to get going. It supports MANY more features than the built-in viewer.
  15. I just use Avast!. It automatically updates the threat database and the main program as necessary. I don't surf the web on that machine other than to download drivers (rarely), so I'm not really concerned about it.
  16. I was playing around with compiling MAME v0.125 yesterday and ran into a suggestion. When I was working with setting the CPWizard up last week, I had to change the controls on several systems to make it work correctly. If I hit 'TAB' to enter the setup menu, it would pause MAME which brings up the CPWizard bezel (since I have bezel.diff compiled into MAME). This is really freaking obnoxious as I can't think of a time when I would ever want the CPWizard coming up if I am going into the setup menu. So, I looked through the source files and figured out an extremely easy way to stop this. I haven't checked to see if it works (no time yet), but it compiled just fine, so I expect it to work. All I did was add a check so that it won't bring up the CPWizard when the UI is active. If it turns out this doesn't work, I will look deeper into this. bezel_0125.zip
  17. You can add a game to favorites if you have the game info page turned on. If not, then it's not possible.

    Simple Emulator

    1. Most people swear by these: gyration mouse 2. Logitech Rumblepad 2. Install XPadder and map the keys to the default ones in your emulator OR remap the emulator to use the gamepad (sometimes this is difficult or not possible, hence XPadder).
  19. There have been projects that have used touchscreen monitors in the past. GameEx will work fine that way as long as you can setup the touch panel as mouse input (which is typical AFAIK). The only problem you will run into is finding games that take touch screen input to play. Obviously, you can use pretty much any PC game that uses mouse input (like solitaire for example), but MAME might be a bit limited. I don't know off the top of my head how many games are available that run that way. As far as other things, jukebox should work great! If you want to be able to surf the web, you can always install an on screen keyboard software.

    Simple Emulator

If your theme doesn't have any logos, you can always copy them from a different theme.
  21. You cannot map 2 keys to the same function. You should look at XPadder as it can do this and MUCH more. You will basically map your gamepad to keys. That way, you can set your buttons to whatever you want and GameEx will be fat, dumb, and happy!
  22. Easiest way is to just copy the entire GameEx directory (c:\Program Files\GameEx) to your backup location. If you want to save some space, you can leave out the themes you don't use (they can take up several hundred megs depending on how many you have installed).

    MAMEBak.png

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure it's not used (I'm not much of a themer...if that's a word). I think it has been included by some themes in the hopes that a dedicated MAMEbak.png might be used at some point.
  24. Yes, MAME can adjust the volume and store the setting in the ini file for each game. The default keys to adjust the volume in MAME are - and = (the plus and minus keys by backspace). You can change these if necessary in the user interface section of MAME (just hit tab when playing).
  25. Yeah, there are some that work much better than others on a cab. The thing is that most DC games that you would consider playing in a cab were arcade ports. So, you probably have no need to run them via a DC emulator. This is a big reason why some people mod cabs to run a real DC instead of putting in a PC!
