Here is that laser video they showed in the Easter egg vid. (Link to website, good read). Crazy thing is that these are laser pulses, not beams. Your actually seeing a compilation of pictures taken of different pulses, taken in such a way as to piece together the path of a single pulse, since the actual flight time of each pulse is way to fast for any high speed camera to view. But if you were able to see it this is what it would look like (in infrared). So what you're actually seeing is the pulse ionizing the air into plasma and the bright flashes are when it ionizes water vapor sprayed in its path. Think of a blaster as an energy source, capacitor and emitter with an enormous amount of energy, enough to emit a laser pulse of sufficient energy for useful weaponry. It briefly recharges before another pulse can be emitted. Cool huh? -

I had an instructor like the black night once. NONE SHALL PASS, he asserted! I proceeded to...um...pass. -
Well, that pretty much sums it up. And now I have a new appreciation for that song! BTW, those puppets were fugly, just like politics. Nightmares? Check. Waking nightmare? Check and check again. Here's a serious question. Can we build a wall around Washington DC to keep the politicians out of America?
-
Actually, I think either side would like it. From what I gather that kind of crass stand is what people like about him. It's what scares the $hizness out of me about him, reminiscent of a nonchalant Hitler, but there's a crowd for this kind of...um...politics?

Have you tried ice creme or ice water? If it's bacterial, the cold will slow its growth some and ease some of the swelling. Plus it's an excuse to eat Ice creme! Not that you will enjoy it much, what with the pain of swallowing and all.

Banning from Xbox Live if watching a legit backup movie?
RIP-Felix replied to hansolo77's topic in Social Club
Why not just make the backup and save it as what it's intended for - a backup? In other words, just watch your original copy on your X-Bone. The backup will always be there if needed, that's the idea right? Besides if it's protected under the fair use law then Microsoft can't ban people for watching their own movie. That would be a pretty alienating move for a product targeting the teen to young adult demographic, the demographic most likely to be knowledgeable about this kind of thing. From what little I know on the subject, isn't it considered a legal grey area? Basically your brother isn't profiting from the copy, he's just hedging his investment (given his kids affinity for sandpaper and shiny surfaces ). Honestly, it seems crazy to even have to worry about this. -
Not if I have anything to say about it! HAHAHAHAHAHAaaaaaaaaaaaaaggggggggg...cough..cough...cough..gasps for air...KRAGL GO!

Not feeling it. Too many buttons, TV too high/small. Cool idea, weird when it comes to fruition. Hmm... Maybe if the Black stripe on the console/stand were Smoked Glass, where you put your AV equipment and HTPC. Also just a big screen TV sitting on top would probably be pretty sweet. The cabinet space would be great for controllers, consoles, and peripherals. Needs a little tweaking and it could be a cool GameEX Rig. Would need a seriously nerdy or supportive wife to clear this one, but there's potential.

um, why didn't I think of this? Endless case possibilities. Now I need to get a lego set and build a new computer, pun intended!

Thanks for the link, hadn't seen this. Now I too can satiate my need for speed!

That's what I mean about bringing the "real world" into VR. With AR you essentially superimpose virtual elements onto real world objects. You are still looking through transparent glass (or plastic) LCD screen that displays the AR. With VR you can choose to block out all the real world while choosing how much real world you want to let in. I think VAR is more flexible in that sense. You get all the benefits of AR without the limitations (not being able to completely block out the real world). Of course the limitations of VAR are in 3D cameras and LCD resolutions having the same focal length, paripheral angle, and clarity of real eyes. This limitation is quickly disappearing though. This is from the artical tthurman linked: "The final thing is the AR/VR clip-ons. Those fit on top of the glasses. Through a series of optical expansions, they turn it into a full VR device, as well as an AR device, both of which don’t require the surface." So they intend to get into the VR relm anyway. Treaturous territory with the bug guns of Occulus, Sony, Samsung, and more getting into that category. It seems a little late for a startup to fill this category. I wouldn't buy stock in them, but who knows, maybe they'll get acquired by facebook and join the occulus team. It depends on IP, which I thought was long ago established. AR has been around for awhile, I thought. I swear google had something like this in the works.

I can see it working for some embedded situations, like windshields on vehicles to display GPS navigation information. It might make flight in poor conditions more intuitive, being able to see a virtual representation of your flight path, the horizon, ground, structures, and nearby aircraft. I'm not convinced that they will be categorically different than Virtual Reality, I get the difference and limitations of both, but I see these being combined eventually. I think 3D cameras added to the Occulus to bring the real world in will bring AR to VR. Imagine your house is the level, the computer bad guys are loaded into reality, and you fight off a simulated home invasion. Or perhaps a lockdown situation at a school to train first responders! I could see this as an invaluable training tool. To separate the categories for me needs to be price. I'm willing to pay more for VR than AR, I think it would be more immersive to be able to add 100% Virtual into the 3D reality brought in by the cameras. IMO this is better accomplished by an enclosed headset blocking out natural light. If AR is to be the next step they need to be cheap enough to provide a good enough experience, since virtual augmented reality (VAR) will provide a superior experience at a higher price point. This makes sense for architects, engineers, other professionals that work in 3D spaces and need something in between full VR and their computer (Auto CAD, master CAM, Sketchup, and what have you). Something that allows you to see your virtual model while drawing a blueprint for example. Bringing board games to life could be cool, but I'm not paying 300 bucks for a board game! Ok maybe if it creates a category of AR board games that use the glasses you already purchased, but even then you would need 2-4 pairs! They need to be cheap enough to painlessly get another pair before this makes sense.

To a computer geek like me, weird sayings or headlines often present themselves. 1^14,942,209 prime suspect in Skylake murder OR There's no place like 127.0.0.1 (At least there wasn't before 0.0.0.0) Have I lost my mind?

Chris Pratt is ok with me, I don't see him as being only Star-lord. He could do Han for me unlike Chris Pine. Pine is Kirk now. You can't have Kirk be Han, so that ship has sailed IMO. Taron, Ryan, and Joe are definite No's, Garret, Ansel, Brenton, and Miles don't have the look. Liam and San maybe, I'll have to see hem more to know. That Anthony Ingruber.guy does have the look and is not that recognizable. He could fill the role and become the new Han without the resistance from previous roles like Chris Pratt or Pine. Like I said earlier though, I need to see him audition for the role (the impression is starting to look better I must admit, But I want to see how he interprets Han Solo when there is no example to draw from). -

He needs some coaching. The emotions are a little flat and some expressions are overly done. Also his pace is off. Came off to me as a strait copy of Harrison's performance instead of a character portrail. Of course that's point. I'd rather see a genuine casting audition for the part than a copy. But I see what you mean. -
Mom: Jim, I think there's something wrong with johnny! Dad: Why? Mom: He says he want's to dress up as Deadpool. I think you let him watch too many scary movies. Dad: Oh no, it's perfectly normal. That's his favorite comic book character. For boys to emulate mischievous role models isn't out of the ordinary. Mom: Yeah, but he's 30 year old and it's December, I mean it's not like it's Halloween. Where did we go wrong? Dad: It's better than Suzie [Mumbles under his breath] Mom: What was that? Dad: Huh? Oh nothing dear! I don't know, I guess we just need to encourage him to make better choices.

RANT WARNING: So basically, I'm not a big fan of dragon anymore. I wonder if ED will support a virtual keyboard using the Leap Motion tech in the video I posted above. That would eliminate the need for a physical keyboard and solve the problem of not being able to see it with rift on.
-
My only concirn with the need for the keyboard is how to use it with the Rift on my head blocking my view? I confess I never learned to type without looking at the keyboard, and mainly use controllers for games (w,a,s,d aside I suck at finding shift, control, z and x). I was thinking of building my chair from scratch, so a Keyboard/mouse tray is on the blueprints for sure.

Came across this while looking into VR cockpits for use with ED. Pretty rudimentary at the moment but looks very promising. I am thinking of building something like this: I was thinking that under the right controls would be a great place to house a traditional tower PC case. There would be no monitor, just the Oculus Rift. So, it would be essentially a VR only gaming station, cords come up over the back of the chair nice and clean. You could always run a cable to a TV nearby, or better up the wall behind the chair to a projector to display on opposing wall. Would be nice addition to a game room.

Give it to the goodwill and deduct it as a charitable contribution. Or just l keep it. I can't seem to let go of any of my old consoles. I still have my Genisis, NES, gameboy, PS1 and etc, mainly to validate my emulation. I don't go much further back than remembering when you could find Atari's at the Goodwill. I still have one, but it broke. I actually found a $25 PS3 that just needed cleaning and new Thermal paste, good times at the goodwill.
