  1. As part of GameEx Evolution (the sequel to GameEx) a new feature is being introduced - GameEx Online. GameEx online allows access to your game library and associated media and assets from any web enabled device and also allows you to remote control the software. GameEx online is being piloted with PinballX before GameEx evolution is released and is now available in the latest version of PinballX. 5. This is exactly how I feel. Everything I want to play already works and works well. Why should I update ANOTHER set and have to update ANOTHER emulator which may require new configurations and set up all over again? It works. I'm done. No point in updating. That's exactly what happens too. HA!

  6. To be honest, I think No-Intro has probably come the closest to being the "one true standard" in terms of cartridge based systems (at least among discriminating emulation hobbyists ), but older standards still seem to pop-up from time to time. I think this is due to people either wanting a perceived increase in compression (I can have ALL my ROMs zipped together in one archive!), or the ever present "pokeRom" crowd (I must collect ALL TEH ROMz!!). Now disc based systems are where it can get a bit ugly. Not only do ReDump, TOSEC, and Scene use different naming conventions, they use completely different ripping techniques meaning that a TOSEC set might not contain the same files as the ReDump set for the very same game. Not to mention that I've seen more users become firmly entrenched in one set or another and as a result have actually been witness to bitter arguments between which disc set is "better and more true". Madness! At any rate I couldn't help but think of this which is rather relevant to the conversation.

  7. Back again to report on new and interesting projects going on in the world of emulation. Recently the inimitable Howard Casto started working on a project to bring dash board functionality to the world of emulators. While I don't believe this to be the first project of this sort it's certainly an interesting development, and Howard's work is typically of a very high quality. Project Thread So while it may be a slight reach to say that this dashboard is Universal, there certainly appears to be quite a number of emulators which support Lua scripting. Taken into account with other projects looking to "modernize" your emulation experience, these are exciting times to be an emulation hobbyist ... especially in the world of GameEx!!

  8. I'm a day late on this but just wanted to give some respect. To come up with a solution in your head, and be confident enough to not even test it on your own system - that's the mark of a brilliant mind ladies n gents. Bravo man! (not that it needed any clarification!)

  9. Well, if you're using my plugin, the command line for your emulator in GameEx is emulator.exe [dtloader] That's all there is to it, you don't need to set anything up in the plugin configuration. If you did set something up, erase the settings.xml in the GameEx > Plugins > DT Loader folder. In your case it should work out if the box.

  10. I use No-Intro as well. And to be honest, I haven't updated my ROMs in probably 5 years. I'm still using an old/outdated version of MAME too. It just seems a tedious task to have to go through and make sure everything is up to date. For consoles, there's probably NOTHING new, just names changed as you noticed. MAME however is always being updated to provide emulation to games that were never supported, or somewhat supported. Plus, I don't believe MAME uses a naming format like No-Intro, I think they just have their own. So if I were to update ANY ROMs on my system, it would be the MAME ones. And with that, you also have to get a new version of MAME to go along with it, so that's why I haven't updated in so long. Why fix what ain't broken?

  11. It's No-Intro sets for me mostly, but I also use AdvanScene for GBA and DS. I just prefer NI because I don't keep duplicates, but I want a complete set. Then I create my own set and a map file for gameex, using my Map File Maker set builder option. I update them about once a year roughly if the set has had a lot of changes, and I prefer ClrMAMEPro for my audits. :-)

  12. Here's a little sample of the progress so far: Launch Before and After support, run games directly from the UI, download emulators and set static paths to them for each system, keymapper support for integrating Xpadder and Joy2Key (maybe Pinnacle Game Profiler if I get around to trying it), integrated ZIP/7-ZIP support... Fun fun! The achievement list for the game shows the title of the achievement in red if you need it, or green if you have it already. So far, so good. Next thing on the menu is to set up the EXE browsers and the ROM browser. The DLL is still a work in progress, I'm adding things as I need them. More to come, stay tuned!
