  1. First let me say that this is not the type of post I usually make. Anywhere. I’m not typically prone to flights of extended sentimentality. This isn’t me fishing for condolences, as that would be an absolutely pointless and silly act of self-pity. This is more to say thank you for the community we share around here. Earlier this week a friend of mine died in a motorcycle wreck while riding in California. I’m still in a bit of shock/denial over the whole thing. Although I met him through his work in web design rather than through a common interest in motorcycles, I knew that he was a moderator of a forum dedicated to Triumph bikes. The day after he died I found myself reading the thread which broke the news of his passing to the forum he was involved with. The outpouring of condolences and support was amazing. People from all over the world, regardless of whether they had met him or not, considered John a friend and compatriot through their contact with him on that forum (and IRL obviously). It got me thinking about our community here and the connections we have (dare I say friendship) through our common interests. Thank you guys for the bonds we share here in our little corner of the internet. I’m proud to be a small part of it. Never forget to remind the people that matter what they mean to you. Life is short, and tomorrow comes a day too soon. You may now resume with your normally scheduled programming of fart jokes and replying to redundant emulator questions for the 42nd time.

  2. Im currently working on a full set of icons for GameEx, the attached image is a brief look at what they will look like, please keep in mind I am still on a learning curve with GIMP. I just need to do a final Glass layer on top of the icon to make it look like the logo is trapped between two layers. The reason why my Icons are styled like this because of the way my new theme looks.

  3. Alright so "my" list is complete. I still need to take a look at the added ones and get to those next week, but here is my list, below is a contact sheet of them so you can see them all in one shot. Just hit the "Spoiler" Button. Also here is the link to the single files: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/1qbnbl1yot90ijc/A0juppl2qd Have a good weekend everyone.

  4. x2 to what Adultery said. I find myself reflecting a lot about these kinds of things as of late. My 50th birthday is in just a few days. I have to admit that I approach it with a heavier heart than I envisioned. It isn't necessarily the getting old. It is the missed opportunities to say hello to a friend, make a new one, or an I love you to a loved one. I guess when you are younger the load is lighter. Anyone reading this I encourage you to say these things and let them know you matter. You will have less to carry with you as you get to my age or older.

  5. You're really pretty awesome Null! You know I consider most of the folks around here friends, and maybe even 'family' in some twisted sense. Working around here is a thankless job, but posts like this remind me why I do it. Thanks for all you do, and I'm deeply sorry for your loss.

  6. I wanted to give props to this site and Tom.. I recently built an arcade cabinet and use GameEx as my front end. I am still a complete noob to the whole thing and it can seem daunting at times. I had some buddies over and we were playing all the classics. One of my friends had seen a system with snaps, icons, manuals, marquees, bezels, etc. They asked why I didn't have that. It bummed me out slightly, because I had put a ton of time into the controls... panel..... cabinet... etc. However, I must admit. The reason I did not have them was laziness. I could only find sites with an option to download one thing at a time. That seemed so daunting and time consuming. I really just wanted to play the games. I then stumbled upon Emumovies.com. The site is awesome and has pretty much everything you need. I was worried about the video snaps, due to an onboard video card. However, they even have low res video snaps... I'd recommend this to anyone. I paid the $60 to get unlimited access and it was well worth it. If you really want to make GameEx pop with some media, emumovies.com is where it's at. I just wanted to post this with some tags, in hopes lazy noobs like me could find this information through the associated tags. I have no affiliation with emumovies or gameex. I just thought they deserved some props!! THANKS FOR MAKING THE EXPERIENCE SWEET!

  7. I admit I purchased this and didn't actually build it myself but when the person that built it wanted to sell it I jumped on it. NES PC: Intel Atom 1.3 GHz N330 dual-core ITX motherboard. 2GB DDR2 PC2-6400 RAM running in single channel mode (only 1 DIMM slot onboard). 80GB 2.5" SATA HDD running Windows XP (stripped down using nLite). GameEx Front End. Slimline DVD drive. All controlled by an XBOX 360 USB game pad. The only change I'll be making to it is upgrading the drive. Overall it looks great in my entertainment center. No one knows it's a PC at first. EDIT: Yeah at some point I will be putting one of these together myself. It's too much of a geek project for a PC repair guy like me to pass up trying. I get spare parts across my desk every day.
