It looks like this one got missed from the summary out of my earlier request:

Scroll through lists with a mouse/spinner/trackball (basically, moving the mouse would move the selection in the list rather than moving a cursor)

Is that not 3 votes then?

Err, not sure where are the posts for the other two votes for this one?

EDIT: I don't count requests from the pinned topic, they will have to place their vote here too.

bkenobi 1st posted this

custom control panel viewer (implement the control panel that's in the theme editor!)

in game volume control would be really nice!

an option to scroll through lists with a mouse/spinner/trackball (basically, moving the mouse would move the selection in the list rather than moving a cursor)

multiple buttons to do the same action (a single gamepad controller could be used in a 2 player cab MUCH more easily)

I assumed this was 4 votes and that was why you only added the first 2 but now you've added the third also, I'm not bothered just thought I let you know

No I took his first vote "custom control panel viewer" and his unique vote "mouse/spinner/trackball". Oh I see I've messed up and counted the volume control 3 times. I will change that back to two. Thanks for pointing it out.

I can't believe there's only 20 odd votes afer 700+ views :)

I noticed that too... Does that mean that 680 people think that GameEx is perfect in every way and needs no additional features? It's good, but can ALWAYS be improved!

O.K. I'll put my hand up here ! Sorry, i have been following this thread with interest.

Vote: Menu Wrapping

Vote: Slideshow Via Jukebox. This is something i have requested myself and is already doable (i only found out later to my embarrassment) if you exit jukebox and select your slideshow but it would be nice to have say 'Random SlideShow' under 'Playlist More' option in the jukebox.

Cheers,

iano.

Vote: Search Feature

I think this would definately be one of the most useful features.

Vote: Folder Structure for Jukebox. If anyone has used the program musical folders for windows media center this is a really great program.

Thought I'd get this fired on to the 1st page again and I haven't used my second vote yet so here it is

Vote: Browsing music in Jukebox by folder

I'd been saving it to see what all ideas were brought to the table and I think this will be the most useful for people with large music collections... I'd love to be able to use the media player functionality of GameEx but it takes GameEx 20mins to load my collection  I'm assuming it it's because I've about 200 gigs of music for it to scan through

In-game music toggle and volume control.

I would love to be able to change songs (simply next and prev tracks) and volume while playing.

This already works if you use the MCE remote. I've tried mapping keys with autohotkey to the remote buttons, but it never worked.

I second this. I never liked the idea of media player libraries an all. Be much easier for music to be set up like video and pictures. This and the game lists by Mame ini are my two.

Unless you have a bunch of singles, aren't all of your songs already arranged by ROOT/Artist/Album/Song? If so, then isn't the Artist/Album display pretty much the same as displaying by directory tree? I see the feature being useful, but I'm just wondering how this is grossly different?

Yeah my music is ROOT/Artist/Album/Song but the problem is, for me at least, that it takes GameEx sooooooo long (20+ mins on a Athlon 3500+ 1gig ram) to display any music after I selected the jukebox option... my xbox can access the same drive of music instantly and thats over a network

I had posted this request before (twice I think). I wholeheartedly agree. Not that there is anything inherently wrong with GameEx, but parsing all the files each time you load the music manager is just too time consuming for those of us with large collections. Even music managers that parse once, and watch for changes sometimes are inefficient at 200 gigs worth. A simple file browser option would be so helpful to me. I'd actually USE the GameEx music player then! I certainly think this should be an option rather than a requirement.

If it takes too long to load large lists, then this isn't really a feature. It's really more of a fix to make it work on a wider range of systems. I don't think that if you have a large collection of music you should have to wait 20+ minutes for it to load while the interface is sitting there frozen! Perhaps Tom needs to rethink how the parsing is done so that it doesn't take so long. Yeah, one option is to just use a folder view so that only the files in the current directory are loaded.

My personal opinion is that Tom should check out how XBMC or any of the HUGE number of other media programs out there perform this same task. I know some monitor directories for changes, but that may not be the best way...

I don't have 200gb (probably more like 30Gb), but my system does take a little bit to load my files when I was trying it out (Dual Core AMD64 4600+ w/ 2Gb of ram). Also, I'm not sure it even loaded anything because my files are all in FLAC format.

TOM: Does GameEx recognise FLAC format? If not, can it be added?

My thinking is that (assuming your files and folders are named appropriately) the OS already has compiled the database for you and stores it as conveniently as possible--so why not use it?

I don't think it is a programming error or algorithm deficiency. Rather I think it just takes a LONG time to parse the ID3 tags of 30,000 files. The tags are not file system meta tags that can be accessed quickly, but instead are located at the beginning of the file itself. Parsing these takes a while! However, reading a directory listing of 2000 directories is nearly instant. A good analogy would be reading the whole dictionary to find our what one words means rather than using the fact that they are in alphabetical order to find it in seconds. Sure, you are a heck of a lot smarter after the former, but it took you 6 months for one word!

Oh creator, here our cry! :)

Okay this is not for new feature requests (they go in the pinned topic at the top of the forum). This topic is your most wanted feature request that you've already requested. It means you get the opportunity to say what you would like to see in GameEx again without sounding like your nagging.

There is no guarantee of a feature being implemented but it might help Tom better see the popularity of some requests.

If a feature is mentioned twice or more it gets on the most wanted list with a running tally of how many people have requested the feature. You get two votes, one for a unique feature and the second for someone elses feature to add to the vote tally. So what are your two most wanted features?

Here is mine as an example Eg.

Your second vote should just be the name of a current feature on the list (this includes Pending Requests) Eg.

GameEx Most Wanted Features

[3 Votes] Search

[3 Votes] In-game music toggle and volume control

[3 Votes] Browsing music in Jukebox by folder

[2 Votes] Custom Control Panel viewer

[2 Votes] Auto mount un-mount image files / multiple image file change

[2 Votes] Scroll through lists with a mouse / spinner / trackball (mouse moves list rather than selector bar)

Pending Requests

[1 Vote] More flexibility for Themes / Theme Editor

[1 Vote] Integrated full control key remapping / multi-key mapping / multi-button mapping

[1 Vote] Custom Mame Background

[1 Vote] More attract mode options (Eg. Slideshow & Music)

[1 Vote] Play game now button (to skip info screen without turning it off)

[1 Vote] Joystick / key mappings image display for emulators (other than Mame)

[1 Vote] Slideshow via Jukebox ("Random SlideShow" under "Playlist More" option in the jukebox)

XBMC just displays the current directory and if it contains any mp3s it will load the id3 tags but it doesn't recurse through all sub folders looking for more tracks like GameEx does... I actually have the load ID3 tags option turned off in XBMC because even loading the id3 tags for 1 album takes like 30 secs and I've just no need to see the tags as I have all the tracks named properly anyway.

Good old Media Player 11 took 2 bloody days to load my collection the 1st time!!!! and now everytime I try to open it the damn thing blows out  nice one Microsoft.

Don't get me wrong I can see where the way GameEx does it would be really good for people with smaller collections but for greedy people like me it's makes it impossible to use... even if I click 'Audio Settings' in the 'GameEx Advanced Configuration' program it take 20 mins for the options to appear .

first: search, it should be a filter field with on screen keyboard usable through gamepad, when the filter is empty all is shown, if i write show games containing the letters

second: support for 12 buttons in gamepad map keys, currently only 10 buttons are usable

I don't currently use Jukebox, but I think browse by directory would be very useful (now that I understand the difference).

Dream Idea: All emulators/roms/snaps/samples are synched from an online database

Now that would be very nice indeed but a complete nightmare to maitain, I would imagine
