[RESOLVED] black screen in attract mode

Ok did the update list and it fixed the scroll wheel not going backwards. I will test the  attract mode tomorrow

Okay, I can verify that pushing button 5 in attact mode you will still time out and be forced into another game.

Also, after about 40 minutes of attract mode the screen goes black.

Please provide a little more detail. Thank you. I definitely dont experience this. i have had attract mode on for months at a time.

If I run gameex for approx 45 min the screen will go black. I still hear audio however.  I have no Screensaver  running or power off after certain time. I cannot however come out from black without a reboot.

Ok so I've been running GameEx AE back and forth for a week or so and I'm not having the going to bla C k happening again. I am still having issues with tying to run games in attract mode. It will still kick me out of game play after the attract mode timer ends. It will then move on to another game.  Any way this can be changed?

Np. GameEx is a great frontend. I dont wanna see it end. Its worth every bit of effort we all put in.

i spoke too soon. after a 30 min run of gameex the attract mode went black and i could not get out.

Can you give more detail on what you did? It looks like GameEx was running for three hours not 30 mins, attract mode ran 3-4 times and one time you pressed 5 to play a game. On the last attract mode, it looks like mame exited and thats the end of the log. normally GameEx would initialize the display here.

Please try running GameEx full screen windowed. Set under display settings.

It was only released a couple of days later, so not your fault but please also install the latest version of GameEx.

I didn't do anything. I started the PC and started gameex and s z

at and watched it for An hour

Interesting. I'll have to ask my wife when I get home. I turned on the machine.I thought it just sat there running, apparently.She jumped on. It's in our basement, where the laundry's at. When I came back downstairs, the screen was black.Like it's been doing intermittently

That's really awesome.Yeah you can see all that.. So I guess my question is now what do you mean? You can see everything that's going on. After random periods of time, the screen will just go black.While it's in attract mode and there's nothing you can do to get it out.Except for reboot the pc. I will run another test.But it seems to be intermittent. It ran all last week, no problem, and then yesterday it went black after a period of time.I thought it was less... i'm busy running around doing multiple different projects and i'm not really keeping track of time. What I am noticing is that after a period of time, it will just go black.

Definitely need the latest log file right after it goes black. 

Have you looked at Event Viewer to see if anything else is creating an error log at the Windows level about the same time? Asking as I have seen random stuff like this in other apps or Windows itself due to anything from driver conflicts to thermal issues.

Sorry i cant say I have. On this particular computer the only things I have running are mame, GameEx and instantsheller. I have some utilities like winrar...stuff like that  it's a dedicated Computer solely for mame.

 

Im not sure i know where and at what you want me to look at. 

I will run the cab tomorrow and hopefully I will get another black out. I will post my log as soon as I get one

Event Viewer is a Windows utility - lots of application and OS events and error tracking. Read the following to learn more:

Also, to check thermal loads on your system, there is a handy free utility called HWiNFO64 that almost anyone should have to test for system temps and processor utilization, and myriad other troubleshooting diagnostics:

PC temps may or may not be an issue. I guess I "got the willies" when I heard that it was "in the basement where the laundry's at" and thoughts of everything from dryer lint packed inside the fans and grills in addition to inadequate air circulation.

I've had to clean up worse than this but it doesn't take much to compromise air flow and kill the tech.

yikes!!! mine is a new build from 2024!! 

ok so this evening i turned on gameex. I watched it go into attract mode and i walked away. after some time i came back and game ex had shut itself off. here is the log.
