pepeleches
Hello. I recently installed visual pinbal and pinballx I installed pinballx database manager on my cab and it doesn't open. I changed something in my cab and I had to reinstall everything. Now the pinballxdatabase doesn't open. I checked the task administrator and I see it appears for a moment and the dessapears, and the app doesn't start. No log files, and no log folder is created. What can I do or what can I try for running this beautiful app? Thank you very much
Mike_da_Spike
Thats odd. Dbm should start normally. It doesnt requires installation, but needs all the files that are come with the installer. I don't have a clear answer, but have some tips: Do you have anything in the applicatiion eventlog regarding a crash ? The program should not be set in any compatability mode or run as administrator. The only dependency you need is .net framework 4 So it was working before and after reinstall your cabinet it doesn't?
pepeleches
Thank you for your help. I have installed in my laptop and it works fine. When i firts installed in the cabinet, it made the same. don0t know why. One day it worked. Now I made some changes in my hardware and had to re-install everything. Same issue now. It doesn't open. I tried and old version, nothing. The last, nothing. I have framework 4.5 installed (the last), and no log at the database manager folder.
Mike_da_Spike
How about event log ? do you see any issue in there related to DBM ? See https://kb.blackbaud.com/knowledgebase/Article/75433 Do you have in the DBM install folder a file called PinballXDatabaseManager.ini ? If so, can you post this file ? I just checked the code, and one of the first things it will do is create a log file. So if the code is crashing even before that the log is created (or during create of the log file) there must be something wrong with your .net 4.x or access level to directory where you put the files of DBM. 7 hours ago, pepeleches said: No log at the database manager folder. Isn't there a subdirectory that called log as well, this folder is even created before the LOG part is initialized?

pepeleches
No log is created. I see there's no ini file as you mention. I tried to reinstall the soft but always the same. I tried even viewer but I don't know what to do. It is very odd.

Mike_da_Spike
this is not a fixed file, but a test one that will give some popups. Put this in your DBM folder and launch it PinballX Database Manager_test.zip It starts with this : Let me know how many popups you get about eventlog : These are taken from Win11 machine, but shoulf be the same on W10. Search for Eventvwr and launct the app that match : an app will start like this : Navigate in the left pane on 'Windows Logs-> Application' By default the latest windows applications events will be on top. Check if you see an error like this (this error weas created intentionally)
pepeleches
It starts with the pop up you say, and no more pop ups. Then I looked up event viewer. I put 2 screen shots. Maybe with this you can know what's happening?

Thanks. @pepeleches and all - Sometimes exporting or copy & paste of data from sources like Event Viewer is not so intuitive or possible. Did you know that, using Chrome, if you Right-click on an image, choose Search image with Google Lens, the search results display on the right side and you have an option to translate the text in the image? You can then copy the text from the translation as in the example below: App Number of events: 2,740 (1) New events available Level Information Date and Time 09/10/2022 11:08:55 09/10/2022 11:08:55 09/10/2022 11:08:55 Information Event ID Task Category 1001 None 1001 None 1001 None 1001 None 1001 None Information Information 09/10/2022 11:08:55 Information 09/10/2022 11:08:55 Information 09/10/2022 11:08:55 1001 None Information 09/10/2022 11:08:55 1001 None Information 09/10/2022 11:08:55 1001 None Information 09/10/2022 11:08:55 1001 None Information Information 09/10/2022 11:08:55 09/10/2022 11:08:55 Source Windows Error Reporting Windows Error Reporting Windows Error Reporting Windows Error Reporting Windows Error Reporting Windows Error Reporting Windows Error Reporting Windows Error Reporting Windows Error Reporting Windows Error Reporting Windows Error Reporting Windows Error Reporting Application Error .NET Runtime Windows Error Reporting Windows Error Reporting Windows Error Reporting Windows Error Reporting Windows Error Reporting Windows Error Reporting Windows Error Reporting 1001 None 1001 None 1001 None Information 09/10/2022 11:08:55 Error 09/10/2022 11:08:55 1000 (100) Error 09/10/2022 11:08:55 1026 None 1001 None Information 09/10/2022 11:08:52 Information 09/10/2022 11:08:52 1001 None Information 09/10/2022 11:08:52 09/10/2022 11:08:52 Information Information 09/10/2022 11:08:52 1001 None 1001 None 1001 None 1001 None 1001 None Information 09/10/2022 11:08:52 Information 09/10/2022 11:08:52 Event 1026, .NET Runtime Overview Details The Descriptive View XML View + System - EventData Application: PinballX Database Manager.exe Framework Version: v4.0.30319 Description: The process terminated due to an unsuccessful exception. controlada. scutters
Thanks @Draco1962, i didn't know about that!. @pepelechesThis is a long shot, but please confirm windows media player is enabled/installed in windows features (this is used by database manager);
pepeleches
hey boys......the problem was, as scutters said, that windows media player was not installed. It is incredible. I don't know what happens when it didn't open before the hardware changes. The people who installed me windows 10 didn't install windows media player, as I fount out that now it doesn,t come with windows and you have to add this feature. What a silly problem I had and I couldn't see..... Thanks everybody for your answers, for your help, and of course, for your time......
Mike_da_Spike
Good to hear. Thanks @scuttersfor the correct solution. The next release will have a check if media player is installed (i hope that it will work to identify this)
