Oh :o I missed that you intended to do this while in place.

You certainly have steadier hands than I do.
Nice work!

Of course now that its done, I can see all my little mistakes!  It's good enough for government work.  This morning, I buffed a bunch of shiny spots that shouldn't be in the chamfered section.. That does a lot to clean it up.  Overall, I am pleased with the result.

I installed a new 2.1 amplifier and added a backbox shaker.  My previous configuration didn't have a subwoofer, so this is an improvement outside of adding SSF.  The results are impressive.  I can feel the bass through the table.

SSF UPDATE:  HDN-8 exciters still on backorder, now expected 7/8 (we'll see).  In the meantime, I mounted the remaining two 2.1 amps and the bass shakers (yes, I'm using bass shakers in addition to the exciters).  For the amps, I decided to stack them just past the coin box, so I can access them through the coin slot door if I need to adjust levels

To hold them together, I used heavy duty velcro strips used for hanging picture frames.  This saved me from having to build an enclosure, and allows easy removal

The front shaker is installed just under the amps in what appears to be a purpose-built space for this.  I can't figure out why this little box exists, but its perfect!

The rear shaker is installed just behind the central exhaust fan.  I wanted to ensure bass separation between the front/rear channels, while also providing separation for the backbox shaker.  This presents a problem though.  The placement is smack dab in the middle of where my PC was mounted.  I am going to build up some 3-inch posts to raise the PC above the shaker

The backbox shaker is not part of the SSF project.  I didn't have a subwoofer before, so this just adds more depth.  I can already feel it through the table!

I've got the wiring ready for the exciters when they arrive.  A few more bits arriving later today

I repurposed some old table legs and cut 4 small posts to mount my PC above the rear SSF shaker

After a little sanding, they were good to go.  I bought threaded inserts so I could bolt the legs through the table.  The table is made from MDF so I don't trust its ability to really hold a screw.

I installed the inserts into the bottom of the posts.  Of course they all went easy except the last one!

I installed the posts, and re-mounted my PC.  Works great and there's no interference with the TV or tilt-up function.  Nothing left to do but wait for the exciters.  Might look into software config while I'm waiting

Funny, my plan was to utilize multiple sets of YST-MS50 2.1 speakers using a X-Fi soundcard, Front, Center, Rear to form essentially a 6.3 setup.  I obviously have no idea if it will work, but I still plan to find out.......some day.

For their size they really do put out a decent amount of bass that you can feel, but it seems a little silly after seeing what everyone else is doing!

You thread has inspired me, perhaps I should attempt to recreate my build thread when I finally get around to working on it again.

Open-air speakers don't seem to make sense in an enclosed cabinet.  The exciters are cool since you can feel the sound through the table.  I don't think I will be adding actual force feedback hardware to my table, so the exciters will be a cheap compromise.  Of course this could be a case of "famous last words"

That makes sense, just not a problem I was faced with.

[Off topic] I always envisioned something unique, with a complete out of the box style mindset, which is probably why I never get done.

back in the late 90’s I recall BOSE (yeah I know) having a large display at bestbuy or circuit city that had these huge speaker booms stretching from a tall stand.  This of course positioned all the speakers in an ideal spot for the person standing in the sweet spot.  I’ve always thought this type of Dr. Octavius style design would be completely immersive.

My HDN-8s finally arrived and I've installed them in the cab.  I'm in the process of tweaking the tables now, but WOW!  What a difference!  Best upgrade yet!

I'm installing thump now to see what the hype is about.

While not quite a "project", my next task is adding colorized DMDs!  I think my next upgrade will be addressable LEDs.  I need to replenish my funds though.  The back-to-back projects have depleted my hobby fund!

OK.. I know I said I was broke, but I had to jump on this.  I picked up a NVidia 3080-Ti Founders Edition for $825!  My goal is to be VR-Ready by the end of September.  I hear VR pinball is really cool.

Nice one. Bought my 3080 a couple of months too early.

I'm curious of you like VR. I'm still in doubt of it

Btw. Did you see also Tilt 5 project ?.

More augment reality, but you can use your own cabinet for it (see post ftom Freezy)

Never heard of that project!!  I'll have to check it out!  As for VR, I like it for some gaming, but never tried for pinball.  I know a few people that really swear by it.  I think its a cleaner alternative to having head-tracking gear.  In any case, I'm anxious to try it.   Haven't heard anything new on the Unreal Engine port either

Just ordered about $800 worth of hardware to upgrade my pincab for VR!  Going to be upgrading motherboard (z690), CPU (12th gen), RAM (DDR5), cooler (Noctua).  Also ordered a better headstrap and link cable for Quest 2 headset.  I'm also going to go with Ghost Spectre for my Windows install
