So I'm new to getting vpx tables working and this is my 3rd table I'm trying to get working.  Currently I have only been running FX2, FX2, Wicked, and Zaccaria tables I have purchased and they all work great on my system now.  For my VP tables I used the baller installer.  I'm trying to get this Grateful Dead table working and it plays great in VPX with pinball sounds and music.  When I view this with PinballX it looks great and seems to load fine.  Then I click the button to enter a coin, click start, and get a BASS music\sound error from the table telling me it could not play a file.  If I turn off the music backglass, the issue is resolved, but then I lose my music.  Just not sure why it runs fine from the ide, but fails on the front end.  Sure it's something I missed somewhere.

Here you go.  It is running fine if I launch it from vpx app..  I also using the vpx custom setup, not the default one.  When I tried the default I had issues with key mapping and a few other things.image.thumb.jpeg.e07ffd4db67a201a7cfb2ea0ed912607.jpeg

Not sure if it is related, but yoour visual pinball exe file is on drice S:. Your table is also on S: but it wants to searcrh the music folder on C

I dont know your setup, but is the music dir on S: as well ?

In your settings file, i see you use a custom system for visual pinball, but it the system type isn't set to visual pinball.

This won't solve it, but would optimize your visual pinball system

Great find and thank you!  So my music folder is on my S:.  I used some installer called the baller installer and the reviews seemed good on that.  I'm not sure how the Visual Pinball folder got on my C:, but I thought that was part of PinballX install process.  I have been doing the testing and running everything from that new folder that ballerinstall created.  I know my system is kind of all over the place.  My thought was to move the VPX stuff to my other drive going forward for space.  Maybe thats a bad idea.  I have a bunch of other systems running now, but this VPX stuff is brand new to me and has been a little slow.

Out of curiousity a few questions:

Is PinUP Popper FrontEnd running at the same time or just PinUP player? Asking in event there may be resource contention issue that PinballX may not report or able to identify.

Have you also reached out on the PinUp support areas for assistance? Baller Installer is their product and it is possible that others using that system may have also encountered the same issues you are reporting.

I just checked and it is the 10.7.0 build they are using.  That said,  it works fine with my tables if I run them only from within 10.7.0.  The only issue is when they are launched with PinballX.  Doing a little more digging I found an env var that was set when I installed DMDext and that was pointing to that Visual Pinball that was installed.  Well guess that explains where I went wrong.  I have only been running Steam tables in the past and used that location in Visual Pinball to run DMDext for those Steam Games.  My thinking was that this baller installer would really help with the setup of VPX and I would keep it all separate and use PinballX to launch those games.

Draco, I tried the pinup popper, but do not use it.  I use PinballX as my front end, but thought that baller installer with the guided config would be the way to go for the backend part of vpx.

When I re-installed my can end of last year, i didn't use baller.

Just installed vpx, pinmame, sam build, directb2s server,  dof, etc from the original locations,  so I'm aware what is put in registry and all other variables.

May do a search in your registry. Strange part is that you point to the correct exe file in pinballx, but still the vpx expects the music folder from c:\...

I built my cab years ago and it was really under powered, and I did a poor job of setting it up.  Recently I replaced the computer and just re-did all the software.  I really like how I have it working, but it's all over the place as I was figuring it all out.  I have all kinds of folders in the root of C and now this huge baller installer thing on another drive.  I was so happy to get all the Steam stuff working so well I hate to start over again.  I got some apps that someone named Joyrider had created to select the player numbers and the wife and I love that feature with pinballFX.  It would be great to have all the software installed in a single location, but I know it would take so much time to do that.  Also huge shout out to Mike and that database app!  So nice to drag/drop stuff compared to the last time I built this cab.  I'm so amazed how cool some of this stuff is, but it's hard to find info and takes some time digging.

I use @joyrider3774his player and type selection as well for fx3.

I have made a c:\pinball directory.

In that folder, i have i stalled Steam and Epic(still testing the zen fx)

I think I have the same steam apps as you have, works fine. Copied the xbox360ce.exe to the fders, to emulate the xbox controller with my pinscape.

In the c:\pinball\scrpits i have all kind of small tiols. From setting my screenresolution, to tools that create launching and dmd videos.

Als a sub folder for fx3 launcher from JoyRider.

I know it is hard now to consolidate everything again, but to have a mess on your harddrives isn't  good as well.

Don't forget @scutters to thank as well. Because of him, I started to work with visual studio (and learned the interface) and when I had the start of Databasemanager he helped with a lot of  coding, but also with new ideas (where we also put them on the 'deny' list) and his mental support (for all the frustration we bummed into).

Be patience. We are working on that as well.

And there is a support thread, where all new features are explained as well.

Well huge thanks to all of you that do this for free and thanks to @scutterstoo for their assistance with the app.  I already started to re-image back to my  base OS and try to clean this stuff up some so it's right going forward.

I started over and this time I did not use the Visual Pinball install that comes with PinballX.  Also got my folders all cleaned up and have it all running in one folder that is sorted.  Before stuff was all over the place.  Big thanks for the help and great catch Mike with the other location being called for music. That's the secreat sauce that led me to the fix.
