[RESOLVED] "Allow game launch?" Steam Issue Starting Tables - 2020 Edition

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I've come here following my investigations on Steam always asking if I "Allow game Launch" everytime I try to launch a Pinball FX3 table directly from the command prompt.

There was THIS thread about it in 2017, but it was closed because Steam had supposedly fixed the problem, but I am in 2020 (using Steam build from 27 Apr 2020) and I'm having the same problem.

Is anyone else facing the same? Any solutions?

Cheers,

do not run pinballFx3.exe directly but use the steam.exe -applaunch <gameid> <params> way

if you link against the games executable directly you get that message but not when doing it using steam.exe

Also, please attach (no copy & paste) your pinballx.ini and log.txt files for review when reporting a problem.

These files are the one's requested most to triage an issue quickly and providing them saves everyone time.

If you are referencing a related thread, you may also consider a copy & paste of the URL in your post for reference.

Alright, that works! Thanks...

Unfortunately the software I'm using to remap my controller (JoyToKey) was relying on the executable name to select the right profile. Guess I'm trading one problem for another :)

Oh well, that's life.

Thank you very much for your help.

I've updated the original post to link to the original thread, thank you for pointing that out.

Regarding the config files, they do not apply to this problem (it's a Steam issue), it will impact the usability of PinballX in the end, but it is not a PinballX problem.

Cheers,

Having been on the ground floor supporting both GameEx and PinballX, I heartily disagree

Command lines and other configuration settings are found in the pinballx.ini. Needed here.

OS and logged responses to improper command lines and other pertinent details found in log.txt. Needed here.

So the choice is yours  - easier or maximum effort. Most members offering support will prefer to help those willing to help us help them.

steam should start pinballfx3.exe for you using those params so in theory if a program looks for a certain process to be running it should still find pinballfx3.exe

Understood.

Not playing hard to get, just honestly thought it was not relevant in this case.

Next time will include them.

Cheers.

I'll give that a try, thanks again for your help.

I had in the past also setup fx3 directly from the pinball fx3.exe directly and it works, but switched over to steam.exe, because my stats didn't save on the leaderboard.

Both worked last year, but I should prefer the steam.exe method

Came here just to confirm that JoyToKey works flawlessly, even if it is pointing to "Pinball FX3.exe" instead of "Steam.exe".

This ended up being the perfect solution.

Thanks again for your support. Much appreciated.

Cheers
