Can you attach (no copy & paste please) copies of your pinballx.ini, log.txt files in addition to your vpx.html file in reply to this thread for review? Thanks!

Hey Draco,

Not sure what I am missing but PinballX doesn't generate a log file nor do i see a pinballx.ini.  Must i launch it in some specific way to generate?

Thanks!

EDIT:  I'm an idiot, I think I found the files you are looking for, attached!

PinballX.ini log.txt Visual Pinball.xml

If pinballx is starting it genetates in the log directory a log.txt. also post from the config directory the settings file

Is this path to tables folder correct ?

TablePath=D:\Pinball\Visual Pinball\Tables\Tables

If it's not that please attach your log.txt file after trying to launch a visual pinball table. Thanks.

Nobody is an idiot mate. Only I am :P

Can you post a log file when you launch a table that didnt work ?

The logfile shows a startup of pinbalx and not a launch or a quit of pinballx

Edit: and as @scutters said: why do you have a table folder and a sub folder table ?

so am I my friend!

attached is a fresh log file.  This is trying to launch ANY table in visual pinball x.  i see what you mean in the log it doesnt look like it's doing anything!

i even tried moving y tables up one level so its just in the tables folder and the secondary tables folder i have, still the same thing...

Very strange, nothing  in the log to indicate a table launch at all. Long shot, but try either turning off the use b2s in front end option, or install the 32 bit version to see if that helps at all  (b2s is 32bit)

Were things working normally before an update to v4.14?

this is my first go at using pinballX so i can’t speak to before an update.

i did try the 32bit install already, same thing.  i will try killing b2s when i get home and report back.

thanks man, i really appreciate your time!

What actions did you do when creating this logfile ? It looks like you didn't select any table and didn't close PinballX.

Can you try to launch a working table, close it, try launching a table that doesn't work, close pinballx and post the log?

that’s the thing, that log file was trying to start visual pinball x table, it just goes to black screen and i have to ctrl.alt.delete and force close pinballx.

i just ran mame and pinball fx 3, log file looks fine.  when o run again and try visual pinball x after running the other two, you can see in the attached log, nothing.  o have to force quit pinballx, hence no clean exit in the log

So, a new install and both 32 & 64bit versions tried with the same result, when trying to launch visual pinball pinballx hangs on a black screen, but all other systems ok?

I'd still try disabling B2S in the front end (change this line in the ini file to False, UseB2S=True , or can be done in settings.exe if you prefer)

Are you running Visual Pinball in fullscreen exclusive?

@Tom Speirs Noticed this line in the ini file, FullScreenWindowedNew=False, doesn't seem right - could it be related to this issue for a new config?

i dont think pinballX likes me...

yup, have tried both 32/64 installs, same behavior.  just tried disabling the b2s same behavior.  i was running vpx in fullscreen exclusive.  i made the change, still teh same behavior; pinballX just hangs... "not responding"

could it be some kind of conflict during initial set up?  vpX wont run under visual pinball, correct?  a new "other syste" needs to be created with visual pinball x?  i have deleted all set up for visual pinball and only have vpX in other systems.

i am grasping at straws at this point!

Vpx is Visual Pinball version 10.  It should run fine.

Are you able to run Pinball FX3?

Is VPX launching a table successfully outside of PinballX?

another frontend

*sarcasm ON*

are there other frontends that work equally and get the best support as PinballX ?

*sarcasm OFF*

It looks like that your PinballX is crashing everytime you launch Visual pinball.
Because the log file won't show anything.
Do you see something in your Windows eventlog at that time ?
If you run PinballX as admin, do you have the same ?
Can you post a small video of what is happening ?

I know what it is. Just wondering what relevance it has in response to the question I posed.

I don't think anything was meant adversely in his mentioning it, but if I were seeking help in one frontend forum, I don't know that I'd mention another in that context, especially given that in name and appearance it is a direct rip-off.

I've tinkered with various other frontends besides PinballX or GameEx over the years just to see what all the fuss is about. Some are great and some not so much. I just wouldn't bring them up here for any point of comparison out of respect for the author, and likewise on the other frontend sites.

Looks like you have some media that cannot close and pinballx is hanging on that hence the waiting for threads. What media is displaying when you try and launch? Also check there are no dialog box showing in windows that could be halting things. PinballX is basically being blocked from shutting cetaing  things down when trying to launch the table.
