[RESOLVED] Basic Setup and Configuration

Hi everyone I am new to this front end and I am finding it very difficult. I need some guidance please. I cant seem to get either GameEx or GameEx Evolution setup to even function for me. I want a basic setup with emulators and roms that I have on an external drive and for some reason I can not get any of this working. Any help would be appreciated as I can not seem to find a guide to doing this. Thank you in advance.

Hi jwrmo, welcome to the GameEx forums

First, realize that GameEx Evolution has considerably more configuration options built in that can make it look daunting if you are new to it.

I would suggest you consider familiarizing yourself with GameEx or Arcade Edition first, as I think it will serve as a good primer for how to configure EVO.

To be completely honest, these guides are in need of updating due to all the recent updates, but they should provide decent reference material never the less.

 

Additionally, you may want to reference a video guide Simply Austin posted to his channel.  It too is a bit dated, but the general concepts are still there.

I am unable to get these to work either. Thanks but already knew about the wizard and the wiki neither of these help at all with how to set up my games and emulators.

Is there someone hear that can offer some help as to how to setup emulators. I have done all of the above stuff and I am unable to make this work at all.

Ok here is the issue I have gotten the emulators set up but some of my games are not being seen by the system. I did see that some of the games are in fact there. Any ideas as to why the system wouldn't see most of my games. I also can not figure how to set a logo for each system. If anyone could help with either of these issues I would appreciate it.

I have been able to get all games working. Now my only question is how to add the logos for each system. What you sent me earlier no longer applies. There is not a section to select the logo for the system.

You have access to all three front ends with a subscription.

You will need to furnish all of your own logo's and media and then set the path to point to the folder that contains these items.  There are lots of sites out there that have this type of content available, but you may wish to register for a free Emu-Movies account to obtain a large portion of them automatically, just input your username and password in the automatic artwork download section of the configuration wizard.  You will be limited in how much you can download per day unless you subscribe, so it could take a few days when using a free account.

Thanks for your help I am using the SNK Neo Geo HD theme. I am going to emulated games. then we see each system that I have configured. I want to change the logos for each system. trouble is I can not seem to find the logos to replace them with new ones. Instead of titles which are pictures of fancy texts I would like to place pictures of the actual console there. I can not find each logo to replace them. Any help in where I find the logos to replace would be appreciated.

I can't say I've ever tried to change these myself, but in this particular instance I believe that logo is part of the theme and not downloaded via the automatic system.  The theme editor takes a bit of reverse engineering to master and is not something I've spent any time on personally.  Hopefully someone who has can chime in here and offer some guidance.

I will attempt to help but it will be this evening at the earliest to confirm but below is from my recall which is a little fuzzy and lots distracted ATM.

@tthurman is in the ballpark. Look into your \gameex\themes\YOUR_THEME_NAME\Media folder to start.

You will find some system logo image files here. You can try replacing the text images with system console images.

If you go into the Logos folder, you will find some more.

Let us know how you get on with this or if you get stuck along the way.

I have looked in both of these places and don't see these images.

Yeah, I dug around in the folder after pulling it down and couldn't find it either.  This is odd since some systems are in there, but this one must have come in via the down-loader.

The Automatic Artwork feature I seem to recall creating folders because it compares these when you log back in to see if newer, higher quality versions are available, but it's been a while and I don't recall where.  I'll try and dig around tonight.

In my setup and using the Default - Default theme for the example, look within the \GameEx\THEMES\Default - Default\MEDIA\LOGOS path:

This is where you would replace the system console logo with a console image file with a file of the same name.

From my GameEx Arcade Edition setup it appears the down-loader created a folder called "Media" on my drive, and within it appears to be the assets from EmuMovies.

Yeah, the NeoGeo HD theme noted in the OP pointed to regular GameEx. The Atari Jaguar text logo is not in this KRC theme in its extracted form. I don't believe the downloader downloads to the media\logo location for legacy GameEx.
