Pinballx gets stuck on the loading screen for all tables.  The tables fully load but the loading screen stays on top.  This ONLY happens when I have a controller plugged in, once its unplugged it works normally.  Will attach log file soon.  I am running pinballx 2.12 as an administrator , windows 10.

Hi there!  You may want to pay attention to where you're posting your requests for assistance - you posted this in the GameEx General thread.

If you don't mind, please, we will need your support files (log.txt and pinballx.ini). Click on the PinballX How to ask for help link in my signature for directions on where to find and how to submit for us to review.

Since you mention a controller being plugged in as the issue, you might want to let us know what kind of controller you are using. You will likely need to look at other things, such as your Device Manager and Event Viewer to see if there are any warnings or device driver warnings.

Have you checked Event Viewer and Device Manager in Windows to see if there are any issues popping up? I have used a wired Xbox 360 controller without any issues. You may need to plug the wireless dongle into a different USB port or going through the troubleshooting steps to identify the issue as noted here.

EDIT: The log.txt file does not appear complete. Was this the log file generated right when you encountered the loading issue?

The log file isn't complete because its crashing I assume.   I am not having an issue with the controller it works fine.  The 360 controller worked fine with pinballx and pinmame.  I upgraded to the the xone controller and that's when I started having problems.

Basically everything runs fine if I don't have the controller on.   Once the controller is on, pinballx attempts to load the table, which it does, just underneath the loading screen.  You can here the table and even hear the flippers, its just covered by the loading screen.   If you try to hit the windows key to bring the table to the forefront, pinballx crashes.

Thanks for the help. I am trying to do a full uninstall,  is there anything in the registry or any other folders that I should clear out before reinstalling?

I don't think that uninstalling/reinstalling PinballX is going to resolve this based on the feedback you have provided. Something with that controller is stealing focus.

If you proceed with uninstalling PinballX, I recommend backing up the entire PinballX folder, uninstall it, then copy the folder contents back to the same location and download PinballX again and install over the files you copied. This will synch any registry settings.

Yeah it didn't help.  Sounds correct with the stealing focus thing.  Tried just about everything I can think of, no luck.  If you have any additional feedback I will try it.  If not maybe this is something that can be corrected in the future.

Hey keithhov,

Different topic entirely, but here's something easy to try nevertheless.

Follw These Steps:

Open Device Manager
Right Click "Xbox One Controller"
Select Update Driver Software
Browse on my PC
Let me pick from a list
"Microsoft Xbox One Controller"

If it works you can thank Stealthoneill :D

The controller itself is not listed in the device manager, the wireless adapter for the controller is listed in network adapters.   I have no issues with the controller, it works great.  Works fine with visual pinball, just not if launched with pinballx.    I might try and go back to the 360 controller and see if that works like it did in the past.    Running out of options, for some reason it looks like the xone controller through the wireless adapter and pinballx don't like each other.

Thanks for the help and suggestions.

Tried using the xone controller using a usb cable, same issue.   Went back to 360 dongle and 360 controller, and do not have any issues.  Will stick with 360 controller for now.

Just seems odd that with Windows 10 their flagship controller has problems, but thank goodness for the 360 controllers.  The only problem mine give me is the batteries don't last....

Thanks for reporting back keithhov:)

If you recall, it was several years after the 360 was released that the 360 controller for Windows was available. It took a while before it was relatively trouble free.

That would be my ignorance showing, by the time I got mine they had already squished any bugs apparently, because I've never had an issue.

I have used the wired 360 controllers exclusively. While wireless controllers allow more flexibility, it is another layer or more of potential fail I can live without. The 360 controllers are a standard now for most PC games and work great with PinballX as well.
