ClassicGMR
I'm setting up my new gaming laptop. I installed GameEx and I can't get anything to work.Backstory - I did have Space Invaders HD theme running for a few minutes but it was the only theme that was even working. It didn't display a lot of the graphics however. Now it won't load no matter what theme I try. I have 7 loaded and they're all downloaded from the website. Nothing that installed with GameEx would even start. Now it won't even get that far. Here's my MSI GT70 Dominator laptop specs:Processors Core i7 4800MQ 2.7 GHzOperating System Windows 8.1 Memory 8 GB DDR3L SDRAMStorage 1024 GB 7200 rpm Graphics Coprocessor NVIDIA Geforce GTX870MI also have the option to force to either graphics adapter. I've used the Intel 4600 onboard and the GeForce. No difference.Attached are my logs.log Intel.txtlog nVidia.txtGameEx.ini
tthurman
Do you have .net framework installed?
Draco1962
Also, are you running GameEx as admin?
ClassicGMR
Do you have .net framework installed?Nope. I never even thought this would be an issue. I'm downloading it now. Also, are you running GameEx as admin?I didn't have that set either. I set it up as Administrator and once I install the Net 4.5.1 I'll give it a shot again! Thanks to you both. Will update once I'm done.
tthurman
Check Draco's post here for some shortcuts if you haven't already gotten too far along installing, should save you some time on those time eating installations!<edit> as a rule I keep these up to date, but I believe 2.0 is all that's required for GameEx (someone correct me if I'm wrong) Edited April 14, 2015 by tthurman
ClassicGMR
Bah... Still gives me issues. I've also uninstalled it completely and reinstalled it. Not sure what I'm doing wrong at this point.New copies of the log attached.log Intel.txtlog nVidia.txt

tthurman
Some other suggestions.Check your installed updates for the ones on this page, they're known to cause problems with the .net install.PROBLEM REASON:Actually these error messages are coming due to following 3 updates recently released by Microsoft for .NET Framework 3.5:KB2966826KB2966827KB2966828Above mentioned updates are security updates for .NET Framework 3.5 in Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2. These updates are applied via Windows Update regardless of whether you have .NET Framework 3.5 enabled or not. If these updates are installed in your system and you try to install .NET Framework 3.5, you'll receive 0x800F0906 and 0x800F081F error messages.Additionally, I had problems with a clean install of 8 then to 8.1 > update, that I posted about here. It's entirely possible these have been addressed, just as it is that they haven't, so you may want to run sfc as described, and fix if necessary.Keep us posted!
DazzleHP
We have very similar rigs ClassicGMR (exactly the same GPU!), and coincidentally i had a similar problem but it not only messed up GameEx, but quite a few DX fullscreen apps. I spent quite some time trying to figure out why, and like you GX worked fine for a brief moment. Suffice to say i wasted a lot of time thinking GPU drivers and DX were the culprit but in the end it turned out to be an automatic Windows Update, that essentially was entirely useless to me and not needed at all.Unfortunately i never made a note of which minor update it was, but to find it i rolled back the updates one by one, till suddenly everything worked again and i marked it to never install. Probably not the most elegant way of solving a problem but i'd had enough at that point I can probably find out the exact the update that caused it for you but i don't have access to my laptop at the moment. Also your problem may well be something completely different but i couldn't help notice the similarities.
ClassicGMR
Ooh if you come across the KB update number please share! So here's where I'm at after 5 hours of nothing but GameEx...I just started over from scratch...* I went in and uninstalled GameEx from "Uninstall a Program".* Then I removed the directory and all files.* I completed every single update avcailable for Windows 8 (except the %$^# Skype app they keep wanting to give me) and rebooted.* I downloaded the installer again and installed. - I noticed while installing there's no option to install the PDF viewer Ghostscript. More on that later* Ran through the Setup Wizard and installed with Blue LCD theme. Runs fine now. Not sure what was wrong in the first place.* Installed Shark007 to play the videos. That's working now.I have 2 issues left to smooth over that I can't figure out:* I can see TXT manuals but not PDF manuals. I downloaded and installed Ghostscript 9.16 and it's still not working.* The themes aren't displaying correctly but I am positive it's a switch I am missing because it is consistent. See video below from YouTube. You'll notice I don't get the proper graphics until I drill down to the system itself.
Tom Speirs
Hi I only looked at the logs in the first post and the screen above but this is a theme issue.Try restoring than maximizing the window and delete the cached png files in the data folder.I think you still need to install the official manual viewer for PDF. ClassicGMR
Hi I only looked at the logs in the first post and the screen above but this is a theme issue.Try restoring than maximizing the window and delete the cached png files in the data folder. Will give it a go this weekend. I think you still need to install the official manual viewer for PDF.I installed Gohostscript as suggested from another support post when I did a Forum search. Is there something else used to install?
ClassicGMR
OK I found a way to get the theme to display right. Not sure why it worked but it did.I tried your solution Tom and deleted the cached files. It didn't help. I tried minimizing and re-expanding the window. No help. I then tried to cycle through <Change View> until I came full circle. That worked. Not sure why though. Bug maybe? I'm not a programmer so no idea. I did install "OfflineGameManualInstall.exe" from the download page and it didn't do anything BUT...I also figured out the problem with the Ghostscript manual viewer. If anyone has a problem in the future check your log.txt file. I saw this:10:53:44.5 4/17/2015: PDF Viewer exe not found at: C:\Program Files (x86)\gs\gs\bin\gswin32c.exeThe default install path was C:\Program Files (x86)\gs\gs9.16\bin\ and was the 64 bit version so it couldn't find the exe.So I downloaded the 32 bit version then renamed the directory to "gs" rather than "gs9.16":Works fine now. You just need to be sure if you download it manually it is installed to "\gs\gs\" and not the default. Thanks everyone!
